It was interesting to return to your comment about the second Red Bull seat. Before the season I felt that one advantage for Perez would be that if a driver with his reputation struggles, the team would have to admit there was a problem. Sure enough, it turned out that he had made the exact same complaints about the car that Gasly and Albon had, but in his case Red Bull took it seriously and made changes.
I also feel that Perez and Bottas show the real pace of their respective cars: everything Hamilton and Verstappen do above that is just them being utter racing gods on a different level.

I have to disagree with the second point. I feel like Max and Lewis are so good in both qualifying and the race, their performances are closer to the true limit of the machinery under them. Valtteri and Checo are brilliant, but both aren’t consistent enough to bring out the full potential of their cars each time. Besides, Checo lacks plenty of one lap pace and Valtteri sometimes struggle in the races.

    "to be fair"
if it wasn't for Bahrain's inconsistent race direction
if it wasn't for Bottas' incident in Imola (and remember, no penalty to lewis for rejoining the track in a dangerous way)
if it wasn't for Silverstone's ridiculous penalty to Lewis
if we really want to look at every single turning point in the championship, then Max probably is the one that lost more points for either bad race direction or other's luck. If Bahrain was at the end of the season his overtake wouldn't have been considered illegal (not saying either decision was fine, simply it's a fact). In Silverstone again I'm fine with not penalizing Lewis, race incident since it was the initial laps? Fine, but if you want to penalize him, then 10 sec penalty is BS, some drivers in the past were handed 10 sec STOP & GO for way less. Not saying Lewis should have been penalized, but since he was penalized, then the penalty should have an effect both in the race as well as in the championship.
    "to be fair"
things in the end were pretty balanced throughout the whole season, max got lucky in the end, but lewis got lucky during mid-season. It's racing, you know that a SC may come out at any point. Then either way, it was not a "creative" usage of SC, but something that's permitted by the ruling, since it's stated that the race direction has overriding authority over different rules, including the usage of SC. Just because up to this point it never happened that the SC had to be used this way, doesn't mean it's not fine.

In my opinion hamilton lost the championship because of his error in azerbaijan
It was his own mistake, not bad luck or bad circumstances. If he had won that GP we wouldn't talk about the chaos in the last race.
We can talk about luck an all that stuff but in the end it comes down to who makes the least mistakes and in this hamilton did one and verstappen none and that decided the championship.

@@areebsiddiqui758 Have you watched the season? There's no such thing as a "washed up Räikkonen". He came 3rd on overtakes in the season, only behind Alonso and Vettel. He gained more than 2 positions on average during his race starts. He scored points 4 times (although one of his points finishes was stolen from him after the race due to some safety car shenanigans). He won most battles he had on track with Fernando Alonso, who had a much stronger car. Not to mention Portugal 2020 where he schooled the entire midfield, including both Ferraris, and even got past Verstappen for 1-2 turns on the 2nd lap.
Its really just Alfa Romeo's horrible strategies that cost them 8th in the constructors' championship this year. I remember multiple times during races this season where Alfa put in late 2nd pitstops for both cars and just put them on hards again when softs could've made it to the end and been alot faster. Lots of pitstops were also botched. Cars were pitted into traffic. Kimi is one of the best drivers when it comes to keeping tyres alive, pretty much on Sergio's level, and Alfa didn't even make use of that once this season.

Raikkonen has been done over by Giovinazzi on the Satudays. He's lost almost all his one lap pace. He's made utterly stupid mistakes like crashing into his teammate in a straight line at Portimao or turning right into Vettel for no reason at Austria.
He scored a few points here and there but there wasn't any race that he got screwed over by strategy. That was Giovinazzi.
I'm sorry but Kimi is done. His retirement was long overdue. He's lost motivation and focus. His outright pace has receded over the years and he's prone to rookie errors. It's time he hung up the gloves and let some fresh young blood come though.
Sure, the Alfa Romeo was nothing special but both drivers were nothing but distinctly average. Look at what George Russell has done with the Williams at times. Or Charles Leclerc in the 2018 Sauber. It's time they reset and took in a breath of fresh air. I love Kimi and he's an absolute legend but even his most diehard fans have to admit that he's only declined since 2014. He's not the same driver he used to be and it's time for him to leave.

Also the overtakes do count, because even if it means you started further back, it also means you're actually good at making overtakes, which doesn't apply to every driver, especially with alot of tracks being quite hard to overtake on with how big these cars have gotten. Also the 2018 and 2019 Saubers were much closer to the midfield than the 2020 and 2021 Saubers were. And anyone in Alfa Romeo would tell you that Kimi hasn't lost any of his motivation. He just dislikes the media and so isn't exactly enthusiastic in their presence. In the garage thats a whole different story though. And while maybe he did make a few more mistakes this season than in previous seasons, don't forget the guy came 3rd in the drivers' standings in 2018, which isn't all that long ago, having outperformed Verstappen and Bottas. The biggest takeaway from this is just how disappointing Daniel's season really was.
Of course he did deliver McLaren's only win this season, and in style with the 1-2 + FL, but besides that, it was basically 50/50 on whether he'd even score points.

Although you can make some careful predictions already imo.
The teams that built their own cars and don’t rely on parts from bigger teams are going to do better, as the customer teams won’t be able to use most old parts due to new regulations and will have to built their own car, so Merc, RB, Ferrari, McLaren and Alpine will have an advantage in that aspect over the other cars. Alfa has already been poor this year, got a rookie pay driver and little to no money for this season as the Zhou sponsorship isn’t even that high, and are my shout for new backmarkers and worst team on the grid. Ferrari will be very strong I think, as they don’t need to catch up and have all the resources they need and have always built good cars challenging for wins apart from 2020. AM spent way too much time and money on their 2021 car due to it being so incredibly shite and already said they doubt they’ll be super competitive next year all of a sudden. So you can carefully roughly predict where Teams are going to be, although for actual predictions you need to wait for testing I agree

19:00 wtf you talking about? if it wasn't for hamilton deliberately crashing verstappen in silverstone, Bottas crashing the two red bulls in Hungary, the shit pirelly tyre breaking in Baku, Verstappen would have been world champion in Brazil. But it wasn't like that, so shut your mouth dude. Verstappen drove BETTER than hamilton, end. More than double led laps, more podiums, more victories, same fast laps, more poles and with 1 engine less. Oh and i remember you that Mercedes had to change the ICE 2 times in order to keep fighting with Red bull.

I dont think Ocon would take the "most improved" title. For me it would be Norris or Sainz.

Maybe they both didn’t improve at all but have been 2 of the best drivers on the grid since 2019. Can’t really argue against that since they were teammates and now both convincingly beat drivers with significantly higher reputation

Sainz did good last year and the year before so it was not really improvement he was just always good. Norris I feel like if we're talking about first half of the season then yes. But then again one could argue Norris' underperformance in the second half of the season was due to Mclaren.

Norris was only good half way through the season. After sochi he fell off and he hadn't shown anymore improvement. I also disagree with sainz because although he is good he was also really good last year. Ocon was much worse last year.

I’ll give you Ferrari as fiercest rivalry on the basis that while Haas had more bad blood, Schumacher trounced him.

I don’t think the Haas thing was that bad tho, Mazepin did that dangerous move on Mick in Baku and spun him around in Monza, but usually they were way too far apart in quali and race to have real drama, it was just starts and restarts and outlaps in quali where there was a potential for beef. Also pretty sure Maz said Mick was his best friend in the paddock and invited him to Russia, so off track they seem to do just fine, despite Mazepin complaining in Interviews that Mick has a lighter chassis and mentioning him in virtually every post race/quali interview
