  • In May of 2015, The Carter Center observed its 100th election as the people of Guyana went to the polls to elect a new president and parliament. More than 50 Carter Center observers took part in what was the Center’s fourth observation mission in Guyana, reporting no major problems or irregularities. After five tense days of vote tallying, election officials announced that the opposition coalition had ousted the incumbents-leading to the country’s first regime change in 23 years.
