  • I originally read this for a friend as a Christmas gift a few years ago. Decided to clean it up with some editing and add the intro and outro music. It's my favorite KV novel and I know there's a lot of other professional audiobooks of this work, but if you'd like something on while you do dishes or laundry, give it a shot. Recorded with a Blue Snowball mic and a minimal of room treatment and editing.

Enjoying it very much. For me, this is one of the best novels about artists and art I've ever read (and one of my favorite Vonnegut novels).

I read this in Japanese when I was in High-school. After 20 years, I am her in NYC and I’m working at Long Island. Finally, I was able to hear how Rabo Karabekian is correctly pronounced. In next chapter, I enjoyed how you read “Bar-beer-ah!” Your recording is professional quality. Thank you for uploading this!

It's really interesting going back over these books isn't it? I first read them in my 20s and reading them now (over and over again for recording) is really giving me a new perspective on them.

Hello Ron, Thanks so much for narrating and uploading. It's a pity that there are (mostly from part 3 on) quite a number of slips of the tongue (I don't mind the dog barking in the background or a vacuum cleaner which fits quite nice into Vonnegut's most wonderful novel, which I first read in a German translation back in 1989 and loved it from the first sentence on. Your reading is great, and I confess tears running down my cheeks on part 4 and 5 for which I make you and Mr. Vonnegut responsible. Tears of joy and emotion of course. To make the longer story short: I "corrected"- which means edited (I hope all of) your slips of the tongue with nice software. I would like to give you the 6 files tas a download if I only knew how I can reach you (not in a cab in Dresden!) If the accident will and you have any idea, please let me know how, perhaps at this place. Thanks again for the wonderful upload. Cheers, W.

Thank you! Really, though, this was my very first attempt at recording anything and it was as a gift for a friend, so I was doing it into a cheap mic in a regular room with open windows and drinking whiskey while reading it. I've come a long way since taking audiobook narration seriously as a gig. But I'd be very interested to hear what you did with your edit if you'd like to share the files with me over Dropbox or Google Drive.

@@rongabaldon9206 Thanks for your friendly words, Ron. I don't have Dropbox or Google Drive. I could upload the files to one of the "mail big files' services. The crux is that I'd need your e-mail address, and no-one publishes his e-mail address publicly, like at this place for example. Are you on fb? We could use fb-messenger to exchange the e-mail address. (sms to mobile could also be a possibility, Skype would be another.) BTW: I use wavePad audio editor, which is cheap and quite good, at least on an amateur level. More than twenty years ago I used to work occasionally as a speaker at recording studio in Brisbane / Australia and learned a bit how to do cuts and repeats. With wavePad you wouldn't be able to take out all the background noises sufficiently. What you can cut out is "doubles" (the whiskey result?) when you realize that you had a slip of the tongue and and correct it on the spot. (At least to a degree that would satisfy any occasional audio book listener.) I am living in Australia, NSW, and perhaps you realized that English is not my first lingo.

I use audacity to edit with now, but some professionals have mentioned trying out Twisted Wave for Apple users. Their mobile app works well for on the spot auditions.
