- After visiting the Whitney Plantation in Louisiana with his daughter, medical student Dr. Russell J. Ledet felt like he wanted to make a statement about how far African-Americans have come since the days of slavery. He brought 14 other medical students to the plantation to pose for an inspirational photo that eventually went viral. The students have since formed The 15 White Coats, an organization that helps spread positive imagery to inspire young children of color and also helps lift the financial burden while applying to medical school.

Pleaaaase stop making me cry Kelly!!
Hello and thank you for educating me about the Whitney Plantation, the demands of medical school and the challenges for African-American med-students.
I'm proud of you black man!!!
Yess! Excellence. 👏👏👏
something that happened to a people 400 years ago or more, cannot continue to define them for the rest of their history
But we should never forget that it happened. That’s why history is taught....so we never repeat history....you probably don’t understand the gratitude of what happened or you’re just plain ignorant. Imagine if something similar like so had happened to your “people”, you’d not only be greatly impacted, but your kids kids would be, and you wouldn’t know then but that (to a degree far more than other races living in the US) would define how your culture/race is averagely treated for the rest of their lives up until this present day...so yeah I believe it does need to be acknowledged and known throughout our continuing history.
Okay SU alum so proud of You!

Dear Kelly people of color is not a good title African American people would’ve been better
From the website www.the15whitecoats.org/about:
"Our mission is to reimagine cultural imagery in learning spaces, lessen the financial burden of applying to medical school for APPLICANTS OF COLOR, and
to influence cultural literacy in learning spaces."
