80’s & 90’s urban environments were harsher (poverty, drugs, mass incarceration, lack of resources, racism etc;)….These factors and frustrations made violence and crime prevalent in the inhabitants of these communities…..These were “real” gangsters and gang affiliates. Drake and Lamar ARE NOT from that cloth, but they can buy an image, so it’s whatever. Diss records are but one of the elements of true hip-hop, “MY SQUAD” vs “YOUR SQUAD”. The violence aspect isn’t going to happen between these two. It’s not in them, and that’s quite alright, if it stays in the studio, or as we said in the 90’s, “stayed on wax”……👌🏾😉
