    *Great unit that’s easy to install and use. It’s relatively quiet compared to window units and **Fastly.Cool** , and it cools down our whole living room, side room and bathroom; which is a large space for any unit to cool.*

    I find that once you install the blades it's a good time to check for clearance. Sometimes these fans bind to one side or the other and it'll start ticking when you power it up.

    After following these wonderful instructions, I have to say that instructions to loosen the screws for the housing unit should be done before you begin. It is difficult to do when it is up due to the small amount of space between the ceiling and mounting plate. Screws were very tight and I refused to take the mounting plate down. Great video by the way.

    Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.

    I needed a new fan to replace the older one in my bedroom. My Portage Bay 50252 Hugger 52" ceiling fan came with a mounting bracket but not a junction box. Not sure if what's in the ceiling is what is needed before my friend comes to do the installation. To play it safe, I was thinking about buying a junction box in case it's needed. What would be the correct junction box for this fan?

    • @TALCeilingFans
      @TALCeilingFans  4 роки тому

      There is usually a 24 hour break in period for the fans to clear any light noise from the motor. If the wires at the ceiling box were loose you may also experience some tapping or scraping noise as the wires drag on top of the motor. Also, in some cases foam or other packing material may get caught on the outside of the motor. Simply give a quick inspection for any loose pieces. I took out my old ceiling fan and my old landlord Mickey mouse the wiring in this house. The old fan had three wires attached to two wires out of the ceiling with the new fan the hugger there are the same three wires that were on the old fan but the diagram that you show has three wires coming out of the ceiling. At last thought I stuck my finger up there and found a third wire. Knowing my landlord I stuck my finger up again and found another wire. One wire is wrapped a lot in black tape one wire is wrapped in a lot of white tape those two were never used they were stuck in the ceiling then there's one with no tape and one with black tape where the two that were used for the old ceiling fan that had three. It doesn't match your schematics and I know my landlord was a jerk now I've got to have the new landlord get an electrician in here and figure out why there's four wires coming out of my ceiling and two were just shoved up there never used but had caps on them. Thank you so much it took me a lot of time to dissect this but without your video and diagram I couldn't figure it out again my old landlord had the house Mickey mouse. Thank you

    How do you disconnect the two wires leading to the light kit? I've tried pulling them, squeezing the plastic collars, twisting them, nothing works. What's the trick? I need to redo the wiring, but can't do it until I get the dang light kit off.

    • @CantankerousDave

      Never mind. The trick is to squeeze the upper end of the collar in a specific spot.

    The bottom of the fan assembly which attaches to the light assembly has a grey wire which is stripped at the end and not attached to anything. Two other grey wires are tied together in a wire nut. Any idea what the unattached grey wire is for?

    • @TALCeilingFans
      @TALCeilingFans  4 роки тому

      The grey wire is most likely from the capacitor or reverse switch. You can use this generic wiring diagram for reference (be aware that the wiring may not match exactly with your fan). static1.squarespace.com/static/5defc719b1969710bdf73e20/t/5e3a0101ccaed56a6797c318/1580859650018/generic3capDiagram.jpg

    • @TALCeilingFans
      @TALCeilingFans  5 років тому +1

      The motor should have a blue, black, and white wire coming from the top. Connect the black and blue wires to the hot wire in the ceiling box and the white wire to the neutral wire in the ceiling box. If you are unsure about your home’s wiring configuration, contact an electrician.
      If the fan still won’t run after properly wiring the fan, turn off power at the breaker and inspect the wires underneath the fan motor (where the light kit plugs into). Verify that there are no melted components or disconnected wires inside. If everything appears fine, contact customer service for assistance (1-877-527-0313).

    • @TALCeilingFans
      @TALCeilingFans  5 років тому +2

      Sorry to hear you are having noise issues with your fan. The two plugs for the light kit are usually easy to disconnect, simply grasp the male plastic plug and the female plastic plug and pull them apart. If the plugs are difficult to disconnect, avoid pulling the from the wires and try using a bit more force. If the plugs still refuse to disconnect, contact customer service for assistance. Hope that helps!

    what if you only have 2 wires out of the ceiling box, I'm assuming hot and ground.

    • @TALCeilingFans
      @TALCeilingFans  6 років тому

      This fan requires a hot wire (usually black or red) and a neutral wire (usually white) to power on. If your outlet box does not have a neutral wire you will not be able to power the fan. As a precaution, we suggest contacting an electrician if you are unsure about the wiring in your outlet box.

    Question, what does the Ground wire that’s attached to the hanger bracket do?

    • @TALCeilingFans
      @TALCeilingFans  4 роки тому

      The ground wires provide some electrical protection for your fan. If there are any issues with the wiring that could cause an electrical current to pass through the metal body of the fan, the ground wires will safely direct current from the fan into your home’s grounding pathway. The Hugger has a ground wire on the motor and a separate ground wire on the hanger bracket as an extra precaution to ensure all parts of the fan are covered.

    Where can I buy those ceiling outlet box with supports?

    • @TALCeilingFans
      @TALCeilingFans  4 роки тому

      For regular/drywall ceilings, you can use ceiling boxes with hanger bars. The bars mount between two supporting ceiling struts. www.homedepot.com/s/ceiling%2520box%2520bar?NCNI-5
      For tiled ceilings like the one in the video, you must use a special ceiling fan support brace for suspended ceilings. The support chains mount onto supporting struts above the suspended ceiling. We use the Westinghouse model from The Home Depot www.homedepot.com/p/Westinghouse-15-5-cu-in-Ceiling-Fan-Saf-T-Grid-Support-Brace-for-Suspended-Ceilings-0107000/205949010

    Is it normal for my fan to make a rattling noise?

    • @TALCeilingFans
      @TALCeilingFans  4 роки тому

      Rattling noise is usually caused by loose screws vibrating as the fan is running. If all screws appear okay, then it is possible that the wires are touching the top of the motor as it spins. You can lower the motor housing to see if the wires are properly secured. If you still have issues with your fan, contact customer service for direct assistance; 1-877-902-5588 (7am-3pm P.S.T.)

    Fan makes a noise,is this normal

    • @TALCeilingFans
      @TALCeilingFans  6 років тому

      Beyond regular wind noise, the Hugger should run quietly at all speeds. Noise may be caused by the following;
      1. Loose wires on top of the motor. Check that the wires are secured against the top of the bracket (see 2:20 in the video). If the wires are loose, they may drag against the top of the motor, causing noise.
      2. Fan wobble. If the fan has a moderate or severe wobble, it may create noise as it sways back and forth.
      3. Universal remote or receiver issue. If a universal remote kit or speed changing wall control is installed, you may get a buzz or clicking noise from the fan indicating a defect in remote/receiver or incompatibility with the fan.
      4. Capacitor issue. When a capacitor goes out, you may get a buzzing or humming noise from the motor while it is running. You may also have issues with fan speeds and in some case will also get a burnt plastic smell from the fan. Capacitors are replaceable and under a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase.
      5. Bearing issue. This issue is more common for fans that have been installed and running for years. Heavy usage or dust accumulation may wear the bearings out and cause a grinding, tapping, or clicking noise while the fan spins. Bearings are covered under the lifetime motor warranty.
      You should contact 1-877-902-5588 for detailed technical support and warranty service regarding your issue.
