It seems to be very typical for that generation of men born in the fifties and sixties. Dominant and overpowering but at the same time very vulnerable like a child.
I don't think he was that vulnerable. Insecure for sure, but he seemed very arrogant and self-centered to truly be that vulnerable. It didn't take that long for him after chasing her that he determined Slim to be a lost cause. I think he was a bit too in love with himself to truly be obsessed or possessive in the long term.

I've always wondered if his possessive personality and desires stems from being obsessive or egotist. It's hard to figure out. He seems desperate to keep his family just as much as he is self-centered and focused.
He's narcissistic... He only wants his family to feed his narcissistic need for supply. He doesn't want his family in the normal, caring, or loving sense that you're thinking of... Only to feed his ego on, possessiveness, appearances, etc... Like he said, he always gets what he wants. He's filthy rich with an extreme god complex. He's probably the best portrayed narcissist in all of Hollywood cinema...
@@PlusVK22 I would agree with you, except the problem is that he doesn't seem to be someone who's achievement-focused, longs for being on the top of the race or competition, or commands Slim or debates every single feeling or action she does like what she wears, how she looks, what she does, what she is supposed to do. I think he desires emotional supply form both sides rather than egotistical supply, while he is still stuck in that teenage juvenile psycho phase.
She should have put sleep medicine in his food the night she decides to run away. Plenty of chance to poison him

You know how crazy you have to sound saying this when a whole a CHILD not even passed the age 7 is like wtf ?!
Remember that he angrily banged on the bus door in an aggressive tone. And that when he finds them later in Michigan, he decided to confront Slim rather than taking Gracie and storing her in a secure place first before doing so, which would have been the ideal scenario. I think the movie makes it quite clear everything he does to succeed in his goals only ends up working AGAINST him. He's very short-sighted in his surroundings even when calm, as well as reckless and impulsive.

Dude got off on being an asshole I don’t know why he thought any of this was going to work when it showed from them gecko slim was going to fight back. A woman who would do anything to protect her child and herself is not to be underestimated
@@msshelfbooty9742 Right. He wanted her to accept him even though she expressed her disgust with his ways to which he fully admitted to. It didn't matter to him since he wasn't willing to acknowledge that he was responsible for the marriage turning south. He just thinks everything he does is legitimately justified.

Billy Campbell's mitch reminds me of Nick Fuentes and Nick "Alpha Male" Adams. At the beginning he and his goon seemed to be what we call today incels

@@zellar8054 I always wondered why he wouldn't move on if he's willing to degrade Slim like that. He doesn't even pretend to be nice after he reveals his true colors like most abusers tend to do. He really seemed more like a psycho than a classic abuser.
@@ChucadeMogseum I was going to mention psychotic but it’s so overused nowadays 😅 but yeah I agree with the psychotic part. He doesn’t pretend because he’s sadistic he enjoys the power that comes from controlling and degrading slim.

His character was as underdeveloped as a narcissist's mental and emotional development. So I say they did pretty well with his character. Do research on narcissistic personality disorder and you'll see their motives behind what they do seem just as pointless and unclear. They do what they do solely for supply to feed their ego... You'll understand his character more when you research NPD...
