The 2015 edition was recorded on 14 December 2015 and aired on 26 December 2015. The teams did not take names.
Pre-recorded guest questions came from Quentin Tarantino, Rita Ora, Simon Pegg, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, Josh Groban, Olly Murs, Katie Price and Heston Blumenthal. The Great British Bake Off winner, Nadiya Hussain, provided the in-studio guest question. The children of Mitchell Brook Primary School acted out Jeremy Clarkson's dismissal from Top Gear. Jon Snow reported on Drake's "Hotline Bling". Charles Dance read from List of the Lost, the debut novel by Morrissey. The mystery guest was Cecilia Bleasdale, who took a photo of a black and blue dress which appeared white and gold to some people on the photo, leading to the dress becoming an internet meme.
One of the running gags is the panelists deciding to make an alliance against Jimmy by helping Richard & Greg with getting their answers deliberately wrong. Rob even goes far as becoming the host of the program for two minutes however the alliance breaks down after a debate about The Dress.

I always saw it, and still do, as lavender and dark/burned gold. Never ever saw it as gold and white or blue and black or whatever else people thought

Bad dong is simultaneously the worst and best joke on the show. So is "your mom" from Richard and Noel.
Richard saying "your mum" has precipitated some of the hardest laughter I have ever had. Just reading your comment made me chuckle thinking about it.

I'm not too ashamed to admit I never "got" Claudia Winkleman at first. I figured since she wasn't a stand-up, so I took her seriously and didn't think much of her. Stupid and arrogant of me. Was only after a few more viewings that I realised how aware she is of what she's doing, how good a performance she gives and how thorough an entertainer she is.
Got that kooky aunt energy.
I could watch her laughing for days. Just makes me happy.
I agree, I didn't get how incredibly funny and supportive she is as an entertainer until I'd seen her a fair number of times on panels

For those wondering, according to all scientific studies done on this matter (and there were a few) the picture of the dress was taken in artificial lighting with more blue than natural light. The picture is white and gold-ish for that reason (you can zoom in on each individual pixel to check). Around 15 to 20% of people's brains, however, think that the picture was taken in artificial light and thus show them what the dress would look like in natural lighting. Apparently this happens more to people who are used to work in articficially lit environments. There is a third even smaller category of people who can switch between both at will and also many other categories in between (all yellow, etc).
edit: depending on the picture (there are different versions of it circulating on the internet), individual pixels may appear yellowish brown, while others may appear white or light blue. Changing the lighting also changes how people see the picture. Also the percentages of how people see it vary according to the version of the picture and the lighting.
I saw it as gold the first time then as blue and black when I saw a different photo of it in another publication.

Oh wow, thank you for explaining this!! I’ve seen dozens and dozens of photos of this dress over the years, on many different screens, and I have NEVER, not once, seen white nor gold in any of the images. I was convinced everyone at my work was pulling a prank on me the day they showed me. LOL
My computer screen is next to a window and then it looks white and gold, but if I look at it at night I will see blue and black. Received a weird amount of hate for it xD

The brain adjusts the colours of the dress depending on whether you are used to working in artificial lighting. Thus a lot of people adjust the colours to blue and black to what they should be, but the majority think it's white and gold due to the effect of the natural lighting.
It also depends on how the picture was framed. There were differently cropped versions of the picture around. Some showed more of the background, etc.
I am sorry, but I would "Netflix & Chill" with Claudia...

Honestly I do not understadn how anybody can see it as anything else that black and blue. Yes it might have a bit of a sheen to it but that doasn't make it change colours doas it?
To me it does look like the picture and the one Jimmy holds up are two different dresses. The background light is very strong so it might be that. The black looks kinda like gold and the blue... my eyes can't make up if it's white, light blue or even a kind of light blueish-violet. It's so weird.
@@poilboiler it's just quite inttesting how the dress has such dark colours and yet despite of that people do see some of the brightest colours on it.
What's weird is I've seen it as blue and black mostly, but once I saw it as white and gold. And when I looked it up again it started out paler and I could see it get bluer the longer I looked at it!

The dress thing: Our brains assign colors differently based on lighting. If you see that as a normally exposed image, it looks pale blue and brown/gold because the blue part of the dress is roughly as bright as the whitest parts of the image. If your brain instead works from the other direction and compensates for the overly bright exposure by telling you that the dark part must be quite dark to look even kind of dark in that lighting, then you see it as black and the light part as blue.

Due to the warm lighting and washed out colours the black kinda looks like a dark gold colour, but the background is clearly warmly lit so it's easy to work out that it's meant to be black. The blue though very clearly looks blue, not sure how people can mistake it for white.

I suppose one way of testing it objectively is to find something gold & white and blue & black that everyone agrees about, then sample the colours of the dress, then let people put the samples next to the closest colour.

I don't get when people pull out the dress and say this was the dress - like the dress they pull out is sleeveless and the dress in the picture has VERY OBVIOUS SLEEVES. I'm not even getting to what colour it is, I want to know where the sleeves go!!
There is a bolero thrown over the dress hanger in the photo. It's not a part of the dress.

The dress is blue and black, so the studio will look blue and black for everyone.
But the picture is the illusion. Basically, the artificial lighting in the picture is blueish, so it's tricking your brain into interpreting the colours as if it's in natural light - and your brain thinks it's therefore white and gold.
You're not supposed to see the dress itself as white and gold. Only the photo and it's terrible lighting creates that confusing effect. The dress is undeniably blue and black.

No, you're not seeing both. The dress itself is unequivocally, undeniably blue and black. Seen under normal lighting conditions through a standard camera, that is what everyone will see. Only the photo, with its dodgy lighting and over-exposure, creates an optical illusion that different people interpret differently.

There are optical scanners (a.k.a. digital cameras) that will display the specific frequency of light which they are sensing. What do they say?
It's kinda purple and grey. It only looks blue/black or white/gold because we humans use context clues from the surroundings to interpret the lighting. Some people get the context clues wrong and see gold/white.
@@johnnycbad I've taken the image and sampled individual pixels of the image. And while the 'blue'/'white' color is a bit grey/bluish, it's at the very light spectrum #7e8cbb and #828495 are average examples. The blue white debate, I understand. What I do not understand, is the gold/black debate; sampling these colors gets brown/orange/mustard/taupe colors. Colors like #64574b and #534135. I'm puzzled why anyone would perceive these colors as 'black'. But what kept me wondering the most over time, is what kind of crap camera was it that took this picture. How could the colors be so off that it would even be debatable? (And how I wish youtube would not represent hex colors as hashtags).
@@jurgen_haan So the reason I see it as black is because the photo looks like it was taken in a bright room. My brain thinks the dress is darker than what I'm actually seeing so it interprets it as blue/black even though I know that's not what my eyes are seeing.
UA-cam is pretty terrible with sharing links, but if you google 'blue black dress theyenews' there's an article with a diagram that might clarify the two points of view by showing different lighting interpretations.
