The 2009 show was recorded on 7 December and aired on 1 January 2010.
Peter Andre appeared in-studio as a guest questioner. Newsreader Jon Snow again appeared with news reports on "Poker Face" and "Bonkers" and the children of Mitchell Brook Primary School also reprised their regular slot, acting out the Parliament expenses scandal and Kanye West invading the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards. Pre-recorded guest questions came from Tim Minchin (asking a question in the song about Google Street View), Sir David Attenborough, Stuart Broad, David Tennant, and 50 Cent. Swansea cagefighters Daniel Lerwell and James Lilley, who successfully fended off a homophobic attack in a nightclub when they were dressed in drag for a stag night, were the mystery guests.
Ross and Brand made a number of references to the Sachsgate scandal of 2008 which occurred last time they appeared together. There was also a discussion about changing Brooker and Mitchell's team name to The Curmudgeons after they refused to dance to the Lady Gaga song "Poker Face".
Mitchell and Brooker were the eventual winners and were asked by Jimmy Carr after their victory if they wanted to do a dance. Despite pressure from the audience, they kept up their premise of not dancing.

Even if the cats involved in these memes are happy, the problem is magnified when others see it and try to recreate with their own pets/get pets because of the memes, not knowing enough about them to know if they're stressed/upset.
One of my cats is a rescue who was called Grumpy by her first owner. She's a flat faced/squashed nose mix (Google brachycephalic breeds if that doesn't mean anything to you) with an underbite (her lower jaw is longer than her upper one) and they clearly got her because of Grumpy cat. When her health issues became evident* and expensive (£2-4k for a nose and soft palate surgery) she "got out" and went missing. But when I found her and took her to the local animal charity to get her back to them, they ghosted us. She's been mine ever since.
*like pugs and other dogs bred to have tiny noses, most cats with the same also get problems with breathing, so adopt, don't but from breeders it's just financing a cruel business.. Sorry for the sermon 😇

Oh come on, I hope you're not serious, the whole cat/piano thing is clearly mocked up.
What matters is whether the cat was in distress or not. As someone with years of experience personally dealing with cats, I can tell you that cat was chill af. It wasn't struggling, its eyes weren't wide, its head movements were relaxed, and it was slowly blinking.
Trust me, I know it's concerning to look at sometimes, but some cats really do not give a shit about being handled extensively. It depends on how they were treated as kittens, as well as their individual personalities, so broadly saying something like that is cruel would be disingenuous when it's visibly clear that this cat is not stressed out by being handled this way.
The problem is when you see videos of cats that *are* in distress but the people are just finding it funny. It's really not difficult to spot a cat that's in distress, because they are seldom shy about making it known.

I figured this episode must have been a few years ago, David Mitchell is clean shaven.
I miss when Russel wasn't a grifter.
He had a brief period between being an absolute gobshite and going completely mental and getting paid by fascists to promote conspiracy theories when he was almost tolerable.
Although, in fairness, he was usually tolerable because of the person he'd been paired with actually being funny and nice. 😂

But, even if he DID believe the cat was being tortured, the angry white guy ranting thing IS A JOKE. Your chipping in with "that's factually inaccurate, actually" shows that you need to stop watching comedy, or, at least, stop commenting on it if you can't tell the difference between a gag and a zoological lecture.

Even today, people are constantly mocking Jonathan's speech impediment, and badly at that, I don't see anything wrong with him doing a half decent job at mimicking the tourists' accent. He wasn't mocking them, just setting the scene. I mean, what else do you want him to do, do an impression of the Japanese tourists speaking in an English accent?
