The Weeknd has a history of heavy drug use when he was really young, if you listen to his early stuff you’ll get a taste of where he’s at now compared to back then. Interesting stuff
@@nextlevelnonce8884 yeah think that's why he says he's going back to his old ways if you have listened to trilogy you'd know he was involved with a lot of drugs and stuff

“That’s kinda dark” lol you guys should react to his earlier music, house of balloons, Thursday, echoes of silence, etc. Even darker than this song. Great reaction!
This song probably contains his darkest phrase out of all of his discography though. ''If i OD, I want you to OD right beside me, i want you to follow right being me. This video is perfect on so many levels, simply because The Weeknd is a Millennial and I feel like historically there’s always been a generational gap between young and old folks but for some reason, Millennials tend to seem more misunderstood and foreign so to see these gentleman not only listening to The Weeknd but also attempting to appreciate his work as an art form, it’s comforting. Thank you both for doing this. Also, I would compare this song’s message to that of New Order’s True Faith.
The song is based on his life where he used to use drugs often (maybe he still does or doesn’t) but then when the sirens come on he’s singing about a time when he got arrested and ended up in a cop car and most likely his lowest point (after fame) that he feels he’s lost his faith. Love your reaction! Definitely should listen to more of his songs, his latest album AFTER HOURS is like a movie! Next listen to Alone Again plz
Love your reactions. I especially love the fact you broaden your music tastes. This is onr of my top Weeknd songs. Your guest was great I loved his point of view of this song. It’s true you’re a bondage to the drugs and it takes you down. This song is about when he used to do drugs and didn’t feel like nothing it worth living.
Just subscribed! You guys are so cool he way you look into deeper meaning instead of just assuming the artist is a bad person for singing on harsh topics. Very cool and please do more WEEKND because he has lived a crazy life and trilogy delves into that story. :) keep it up cool guys
Ok,so this is dark, but he used to do a lot of drugs back in the day but the good part is that he stopped doing it and the flashing car that he ended up in is a police car, this thing happened in 2015 when he punched a cop
The final scene where we see the light comes and goes away, it feels like he was given electric shock from defribilator and the final read light where It marks the end of the life
Or the end of his addiction because hes not dead yet and he seems to be doing great now . If he had a serious problem with drugs before he seems to not be letting it win now especially with millions of dollars at his disposal ... He's like the biggest star in the world now ..
This is the first time watching one of your vids but everyone likes how the older generations react to younger generation woes, interests and worries. Especially since 8% on a smartphone phone battery and slow or no wi-fi is the end of the world to the kids these days. I sound like and old man and I'm only in my 40's. 😂😂😂 Old guy on the left might've benefited from having the lyrics up on a tablet/phone to look at but not before pressing play. Gonna check your previous works and decide to sub from that.
Abel himself said that the "flashing car" was reffering to a cop car, but it fits the song much better if it's an ambulance and he ends up dying, or at least almost dying
this song as said by The Weeknd himself is about back at a time when Weeknd was a heavy drug user and was trying to live that rockstar lifestyle. the sirens at the end and him being in the flashing car relates back to when he punched a police officer and had gotten arrested one time in Vegas.
Interesting thing I noticed about older generation including my dad is that they are very observant about the lyrics of a song and the story that is being conveyed vs my generation (millenial/gen z) we prioritize the overall sound of the music and care less for lyrics. I love a mix of both and thats why the weeknd is my favorite artist. Listen to the whole after hours album it is a classic.
I like how these guys couldn't understand the lyrics didnt really know who the weekend is and still got the song. Shows great and deep music trascends if your ready to listen.
The whole album that this song is from "After Hours" tells a story of heartbreak as well as diving into the oddities of Hollywood and how its affecting him - as well as him trying to escape that culture/lifestyle. This song is basically a look into something that legit happened to The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) in Vegas I believe in 2015, when he was under the influence, punched a police officer, and was arrested. It's a shame, because in real life he's actually a very sweet, caring, loving, and thankful man. His songs depict a character so deeply dark, but the man behind The Weeknd is a great guy. Figured I'd give a clearer background to this song :) Loved the video!! Can't wait to see more!
He has also curses A LOT in his music, so if you decide to delve more into his music, just be weary that he is worse than a pirate sometimes. All great songs nonetheless.
Loved this reaction. He does sound a lot like Michael Jackson. Also The Weeknd is singing about his own life struggles in this album, and the things he is/has gone through in the spotlight/LA
I dont know how cant these matured people not understand such a simple interpretation of depression. He (weeknd) loved someone whom he lost, which led him to getting addicted to drug so much that he overdosed and found himself in an ambulance at the end. ( that faith and religion were is his love ) whom he lost. Means he lost his faith and was losing his religion of love because he lost her.
