The perfect killswitch case for me would be to have just the front cover attached to the device (covering the triggers as well). I really just want to protect the screen, sticks, touchpads, buttons and triggers.... my bag has plenty of padding for the back of the device and it feels unnecessary to add permanent extra weight/bulk on the device while playing. I like my Steam Deck naked xD
Unfortunately, dbrand has already said that they have placed bulk orders for the USB C to C adapters. Would have much preferred a 90° one as well, but yeah. This is what we got.
I got my replacement case a couple of days ago, but didn't get the skin or the adapter. I do love the new kickstand though. Edit: Just watched an unboxing of the Killswitch 2 video and realized, they hid that adapter really well in the box. Well played Dbrand 😅
@@PongbyAtari From the few videos I've seen. It appears that only reviewers got the skin added. I have the Teardown skin anyway, just haven't applied it yet.
What’s nice is all the third party cases that are almost identical to project kill switch and a fraction of the coast.. I recommended some on my Steam Deck Podcast..
The improvements are great, but I wish they mentioned them on their website or in the box or something. I got my replacement case a couple days ago and was confused at was initially confused about what the piece of plastic or the thing on the kickstand was for. Tried to find out online, but nowhere did dbrand seem to say anything about it. I guessed the plastic was for the dock, but had no idea that kickstand area was for microSD cards. One improvement I wish they would have made to the Travel cover is to have the top vent at least somewhat open. I get structural integrity is a concern, even having it slightly open would mean the Steam Deck would be able to exhaust some air if the deck gets left on with the cover attached.
I'm one of the early adopters to order the Dbrand's KillSwitch, and my Steam Deck has the "H" fan. My Dbrand replacement shell arrives tomorrow! I hope it comes with everything you showed. I've been racking my brain on finding an adapter that will work with the original steam deck dock & KillSwitch. This video was a great sign of relief or hope. Thanks for sharing! Dbrand for life (pending)?!
Woah, you play SWRPG? Pitch for another channel: D&D is in the dog house, a Star Wars RPG live play is just what UA-cam needs. Your production quality is excellent. I’d watch that!
I wouldn't mind the kickstand as I do watch anime on it but the skin should be complementary if they are going to force it and not included in the bundle
@kgonepostl I believe thays the way they are doing it now. The skin is over $20 by itself. The case and kickstand in theory can be $35-$40 in the base package.
So fary favorite case is the JSAUX Mod case I got the cooler kit but you can take the kickstand off and make it slimmer also the kickstand is alloy not plastic and it works really well and fit great in the carry case JSAUX sells
I'd pay extra for a USB-C to USB-C extension that actually clipped onto the dock's connector. It's a right-angle connector, so there's plenty to clip on to.
Hi! This case is still and always in pre-order status on their website for many months (I say this knowingly since I have already placed an order for several months... In the meantime I fell back on the Spigen version, to protect my Steam Deck). It's fine to promote it, but when you're not an influencer, you can't have it at the moment... Except that, I like your content
I wish Instead of the extension for the doc cable they just made the USB cutout in the case larger to support the doc cable natively without anything extra. Be cleaner and better IMO.
Looking at my replacement killswitch case you might be able to trim it carefully and achieve this. But I agree it seems they could of just designed it to work without a adapter on the usb-c port and it probably wouldn’t of compromised the case.
Dbrand eventually gets it right. I own the PS5 covers and a phone case from them. I wouldn't do reviews for them though. They seem to jump the gun on most of their products without doing much research. I would probably get burned too often doing reviews and then find out they messed it up somehow the first time. Then I'm stuck with a review that is incorrect. You have an awesome channel though and wish you all the best!
Awesome video & channel sir. I doubled down and ordered the 512gb model. This thing is literally what I've wanted in a handheld since I touched a GAME GEAR! 🎮 . I've waited a third of my life for this 🤣 .
i got the spigen case plus the only other grip with a travelcover on amazon. The grip case it came with sucks but the travel cover is great. between those and the universal deckmate adapter I get the best of both worlds with an already build ecosystem of attaching parts. I also dont have to deal with a company with such a pretentious marketing team. Deckmate kickstand is better looking too. Total cost minus selling the lame grip was 68 and that includes the full deckmate kit with the mounts adapters and kickstand. No skin or stick covers though.
I only want the case with the better front plate cover and lock mechanism, but the Jsuax ModCase have the ability to hold a battery or external NVMe. So I haven't decided which one to get. It depends all on the community add-on creation for the dbrand killswitch.
FYI, the magnets are still a problem for the killswitch v1 even without the kickstand. I don't have a delta fan though so I wish I could buy the v1 but sadly can't
Killswitch is good, but considering the price, the Jsaux version is essentially the exact same, but for $20-$40 Any thoughts on this? Did you do a review for the jsaux hardcase?
I ended up buying the Spigen tough armor case because of the fact that it can somewhat fit on the oem dock. The fact that Dbrand sells a "dock adapter" to accomadate their killswitch case rather then rebuild it to accomadate valves dock just baffles me. I know it shouldnt be their responsibility to do this because Valve designed the deck to be used as is, but then it makes me question why did Spigen create a bigger cut out for the usb c connector for valves dock. I was going to buy this but I dislike the workarounds to use this with the dock i own now. Perhaps another iteration of the killswitch will take this into account.
I use the kickstand from my wii u on my steam deck. sometimes tabletop mode is the way to go. also not sure why the wii u didn't have the stand built into the tablet controller but oh well
I received my replacement case also but I didn't get the Skin. Which does look cool I wish I would have gotten one. I bet those original colored thumb grips they sent with the first Killswitch would look great with your Skins. I take my Steam Deck almost daily and always have carried it in the Killswitch.
I like your videos, but this one is definitely very dark. Maybe if you're doing a video on a black piece hardware use a brighter light? Keep up the good work. FWIW, I have great eyesight. It was just annoying trying to squint on a phone to something so dark and hard to make out.
I don’t get why anyone still uses the first version of the killswitch case even after they discontinued it for the magnet in the kickstand. The case itself still has a powerful magnet on the back. The magnetic kickstand isn’t the only magnetic part. The case alone is still messing with the fan
It seems like they threw it in as a nice little unnannounced surprise for the trouble caused by the initial mixup with the case. That said, I agree, they need to now update the listing so they can temper expectations for everyone who is still looking to order it, whether or not it is included. I'm sure they will
I will probably pick up one of these now. I've been looking at them since the first revision. I take my Deck with me daily to sit in a pickup line for my kiddos and hate putting it in a case just to take it back out 10-15 minutes later. Just having to clip on a front cover would be super nice. EDIT: I went ahead and picked up one from your link!
I have used grips for different systems and the KillSwitch has a great feel to it. I actually prefer the old style with the Magnetic kickstand which did not affect my fan so I haven't even used the replacement. I'm going to weigh it and see if it's lighter than the OG with the kickstand on.
Btw, I find a lot of hyperactive shouting, hyping and bellowing of UA-camrs extremely annoying and unwatchable. This channel has the clearest, calmest and comforting voice of them all. Love it.
I get the killswitch hype, but has anyone tried the spigen case yet? I feel like that's a great one for the steam deck. Specially with their best cutout for the usb c dock.
I placed an order a week ago for the set but got a ‘pending stock. Delivery Q1’ for a week since. That’s just too long with no firm date, and so I cancelled. Sure it’s a great case, but it’s not the only case on the market with great reviews.
I do think it’s a little funny that people complain about the size of the cases. Honestly, I want a larger case so I could fit all the components I bought for my Steam Deak.
Putting in my pre-order soon, is it worth going with the travel kit? I feel like the cover is gonna become a nuisance to place while gaming. Also, does taking the front cover on and off risk scratching the screen at all? I know too many questions.. sorry, thanks for the review! 😃
I don't think the cover touches the screen at all, however you could also use the screen cloth between the 2 as I do and guarantee there is no direct context.
I really liked the idea of this case however it seems way overpriced for what it is so in the end I got a 3rd party replica of this which also has the stand and the front case for £20 delivered from Amazon and I’m really happy with it
It’s not an amazing case but the price it’s good enough, the build quality is decent as holds onto deck well and protects from locks without feeling too bulky and the top case is sturdy enough so once on you can throw in a backpack 👌

how do you get shots of the steam deck with gameplay while you're actually not touching the controls? looks very professional!
