How to Eliminate Push-up Wrist Pain

  • Push-ups shouldn't be hard on the wrist, but sometimes they are. It's tempting to use push-up handles or forego push-ups all together but these don't address the real cause of the problem.
Push-up wrist pain isn't always from weak or stiff wrists. It's usually from an imbalance in muscle tension in the lower arm. Correcting this imbalance reduced and even eliminates any wrist pain and discomfort very quickly.

Naeem Fekri I used to feel pain in my wrists every time I do push-ups cause I would let my hands be all relaxed and let my fingers spread. After watching one of his videos where he talked about keeping everything tight, bringing your fingers together and contracting everything. I tried it and did a couple of push ups... and I didn’t feel any pain then I realized that my technique was the reason I was feeling pain.

Hey matt this tip has completely changed my push ups, the tension control makes all the difference. My hands would slip away while doing push ups, but that is because I did not tense the forearms and hands properly. Now it doesn't happen any more and there is no wrist pain too. Thanks so much matt, keep doing you.

I have BAD arthritis in the thumbs- in desperation, I started searching for UTube videos to help with the pain. This was the first one I watched, and it was a game changer!!! By using your technique the pain was eliminated while moving my wrists!!!😄 I just need to find exercises to build up the surrounding muscles, and I think I can keep from having surgery for a while. THANK YOU!!!! You've done more for me in a couple minutes, than a physical therapist couldn't, after a couple of months!

@@JD-dm2qo Ive had knee pain 2 different ways with my squats myself. the first time, it was fixed by doing the warmup that Matt posted a while back, that IIRC was ment to help you achieve deeper squats. the second time was fixed by stretching my thighs before the squats, as the pain only seemed to come up with wide squats and not narrow squats. So I absolutely get it might be something that was covered with this last video with the 4 tips about joint pain.

Unless you have an injury in the wrist you probably have something out of alignment with your technique. Best to have someone check your form in person to see if there's anything a little off.

An in jury is a very different situation, certainly get it checked out to make sure there's nothing structural going on.
