  • In an attempt to lure the British Army in to a ambush the IRA's South Armagh brigade caused a number of explosions near the border. A British patrol narrowly miss a booby-trap bomb blast.

    Unfortunately, Major Ricketts plans to dominate the ground in South Armagh would not come to fruition, as about a year later the British would be forced to travel solely in helicopter gunships and forbidden to travel on the roads due to the sheer amount of landmines and booby-traps planted by the PIRA in the area.

      So? Unionists in the border areas are a part of Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Louth and Dublin. You misunderstand. The goal of the Republican movement is not to unite the North of Ireland with the Free State, It's to create a entire new state were Catholic, Protestant, Dissenter and Atheist live in a Democratic state and power is shared equally.
