I think the worst thing is archery is struggling in Canberra. 11 archers shot the State championship. I was turning over 5 million a year in Canberra so many local archers. So many good clubs. Tuggeranong the funding which went into that amazing. But the break ins were bad. That court case on Domestic relationships - where you can claim assets from anyone I did not like. I loved the place. But it was hard to buy a store and grow. It was actually a hard position - Public service life was great, the business was to busy.
Even here my dad's business was only 1.5 staff at his biggest. We have a lot of staff. I closed Saturdays to have some time off. But I still work Saturdays.
The thing which I find interesting about Canberra - When I left Weston Valley I had 20-30,000 in the bank which I got through running coaching courses all the time. The Club was big. I have the cheapest target faces and I get no target face business from Canberra. When I was in Canberra I had target faces for $7 my club would go to Benson and pay $20. It would give me the shits. Dad would always say if you have club money then you have to spend it the best you can which means buy the cheapest you can find.
I would say all but one club buy faces off me here. I'm almost half the price. So it is massive savings for the clubs. Certainly an interesting time growing up. My old store now a Laundry Matt. lol

Firstly, thankyou for the reply, I love archery And I must have moved to Holder within a year or two of you leaving. Yes Archery in the Capital lost Big time when you moved, I remember shopping from an archery store in a back shed in Kambah! I was a young fella in my teens then but that was you too I'm sure in the 90's. I was gobsmacked to learn there was no archery shop here at all any more. I had just bought my Mathews V3 and the Place I bought it from didn't put in a peep or do anything I asked so I was stuck with a bow for months dying to shoot it! The only reason I bought it from Apex is they do afterpay as I could not afford it any other way. I've spent close to 4000 all up with top of the line hamski, shrewd, spott Hogg, Gas and Mathews accessories. I watch your vids and check your shop out dreaming of something like that here. I'm so glad you still love the sport as archery would not be the same in Australia without you! Take care and keep the vids coming mate!!

Impressive damage! I'm surprised the bowstring didn't snap, must be top notch quality. Most dry fires i saw in my club happened due to bad nock fit on the string. Skinny string plus wide nock equals dry firing your bow, almost classic.

Might have some of that serving that isn't normal thread type material. Idk what the hell it is, it feels like dogshit on your fingies when they do the center serving with it. It's like plastic-y something or other. Awful. But I'd imagine it's tough as hell lmao

I shot and sold this exact same bow for many years when they were manufactured by Oneida Archery USA. In all my years , I have never seen one this badly damaged and it is clearly user caused. Those limbs will take an incredible pounding by means of striking an object with either the top or bottom limb on large tree branch or literally driving the bottom limb into the dirt while shooting out of a pit blind. About the only damage that would result is that you would have to readjust the timing wheels “star screw”. I’ve done it and I know how tough they are ,this was at 85 lbs draw weight. No other damage , readjust timing and go again. Too bad you had to do the customer is always right thing , dishonesty sucks.

The Oneida;s I never had an outboard limb do this. This is very different. The Oneida's did power cables, replaced the power limbs. I wonder if it is the string material? Maybe the Oneida tips are stronger? This is the first RPM to do this.

I'm pretty sick of these people.
Steve and his staff have been very fair and decent to me over the last 2.5 years - any issues I've had have been fairly resolved and in many cases I'd say they've been more than fair.
eg, upgrading orders because what I ordered was out of stock, so they just gave me something better.
This crap shouldn't happen to nice people.

Sad that people are not willing to be held responsible for their actions. I have seen this same scenario happen multiple times, most times the shooter does not even know what happened until it is explained to them, and then most, but not all, accept what they have done.

      @geoffdrew5207 Рік тому +1

@@tonyallen8626 I don't and have never worked in a bow shop mate but I can honestly say that every dry fire and derailment I have seen has been the fault of the shooter. I have seen just as many dry fires from not even nocking an arrow as I have seen caused by bad nock fit.
There is no excuse for a shop letting a bow / arrow combination leave the shop with the wrong size nocks for the bowstring serving but I have never seen it, I actually see more new bows with nocks that are too tight for this very reason. In this case the guy had been shooting the bow for some time without issue so it was obviously archer error.
It is not an isolated incident, I have lost count of the number of bows I have repaired and strings I have replaced caused by dryfires and derailing's.

I agree they would not know. Which is why I tell them what happened and I say I will not cover it again. But the cost of repair is only a little bit. What less than a tank of fuel? So one more thing about horse bows. These can be extremely hard to string by yourself thanks to wood siyahs you have to over come that angle so it amplifies the difficulty in stringing. Worse there’s really no “universal stringing aid” or any stringing aids for sale because these bows have drastically different shapes and sizes.
All the quality bow manufacturers now have dropped the warranty on bows over 60lbs usually by half because so many people were making warranty claims when they tried to step through their 90lb bow and torqued it lol. Sadly they were often replacing or giving discounts on replacements.
Some don’t even make bows past 50lbs because of this issue (imo). Idiots think “oh I can pull my 70lb elite, Hoyt, etc so a 70lb Tatar bow will be no problem!” when they can’t even safely string the damn thing.
It’s worse with people thinking it’s so cool to buy a bio composite or traditional horn bow without the faintest clue how to properly warm up and tiller the bow. Horn is not fiberglass or carbon.
Needless to say wherever you go in the industry you find people blaming their own stupidity on the manufacturer or the shop. I think the lock down archer explosion had amped this up to 11.
Entry level equipment like Chinese compounds/recurves or pure fiberglass horsebows exist for a reason. Their cheap tools to learn on and make mistakes. Skipping the line in terms of performance/price or draw weight is always a recipe for disaster.

I had a bow blow up and it was nothing to do with a dryfire...
limb pulled out of the socket, or to be more correct the socket insert pulled out of the riser and remained attached to the limb when I had it at full draw.
The limb and socket whacked me on the head and then my hand.
Got both a concussion and a hand that was numb for over a week.
Both limbs were fine, archery shop(not Archery Supplies) refused to warranty the bow claiming it was a dry fire.
They never did explain how a dry fire could leave the limbs fine, but have the riser itself fail and have the limb socket pull out.

In 35 years of archery I have had one dry fire, In that instance I was lucky that is was on a very low poundage compound, the only thing that happened was the peep jumped out of its spot in the string. I am still using that bow with the same strings and cams, as I said very lucky.
I would be embarrassed to rock up to an archery shop and try to pass off a dry fire damage as a warranty claim, just be honest, suck it up and admit your mistake and pay for the repairs.

I had a Mathews Heli M that made me so fearful to ever let down a bow. No matter how hard I tried to let the draw down without torquing, that thing blew up on me 3 times. The pain on my forearm haunts me to this day. After the 3rd time I had to sell it. When I bought it new, my dealer put the bow on a scale to measure the draw weight and it blew up on him before I even got a chance to shoot it. I always wondered if that bow was known to this or was my bow messed up somehow. I’ve owned many bows and that one bow was the only one to ever have the string come off.

I've been finger shooting compounds for a few years now, had a couple of dry fires, got away with 50% of them. Had 2 due to polycarbonate nocks blowing out, so only use solid colour nocks now, that solved that problem. Had to shoot mediterranean due to class rules(barebow compound), found that I was pinching the nock and denocking the arrow, so decided that I wasn't willing to destroy my bow due to some stupid rule, been shooting 2 under for 2 years now, no more dry fires, shame I have to compete against sights and release aids to shoot it.
Just lost a recurve to a broken wood shaft, grievious😭

You can shoot CB by the rules 2-3 fingers under. With Traditional category too, just you have to touch the nock with one finger.
I've been shooting CB category for six years... I shoot 3 under, and I had even an opponent CB shooter who've shot with stringwalking technincs.
The only rule in CB releasing is you mustn't use release aid, but how you release with your fingers is your choice... mediterrean, 2-3 under, thumb, slavic release etc...

  • @OpiatesAndTits
    @OpiatesAndTits Рік тому

I shoot traditonal recurve horse bows and you tend to shoot quicker then with say a compound or target recurve. It’s stupidly easy dry fire with a nock meant for modern archery because there’s that “double click” as it passes the narrow throat of the nock into the groove. Sometimes you miss that second click.
I appreciate this when shooting my junxing m125 (first compound now, I love compound now it’s so so so fun to have that stupid good accuracy with so little work) but on a traditional bows maybe your listening to some silly review from an Australian archery salesmen and you half knock the arrow ugh. Thank god the arrow was super heavy it didn’t delaminate.
I’ve since switched to shooting Vermil nocks. It’s not worth the risk. At any rate I can see how shooting fingers on and RPM you could find yourself in a similar situation.
Shooting release aid your not shooting fast taking that extra moment nocking is sort of part of the flow. You can’t blind Nock and get your release aid right or at least I can’t lol.

@@saransmith8773 it’s pretty simple I was listening to this channel, didn’t pay attention, and didn’t fully engage the Nock on the string. It was a laminated traditional bow because the arrow was so heavy it absorbed a bunch of the energy even though it just flopped to the ground in front of me. The glue holding the layers of the bow together didn’t fail probably because of this.
The Vermil nocks can’t really be partially nocked. This hasn’t happened since. Shooting compound I pay more attention to the nocking process so the nock is always fully on the string. I could see how shooting a compound bow with fingers and blind nocking could cause a partial nock.
Something that doesn’t happen shooting with a release aid because at least I have to look to make sure it’s engaged on the Dloop and can check the nock as well.
