You have a great new spot from which to film. Love seeing all the samplers behind you. When your ice machine beeped, I kept thinking it was my washing machine. And I'm not even doing laundry right now. I'm not a fabric snob yet. I've just been back to stitching less than a year and I'm still in the experimentation stage. If Bren is more than pleased with the other company, then that is proof enough for me that it's good. Happy stitching.

Working on my first piece of Permin now and I love it!! It's kind of like Goldilocks for me, not too floppy, not too crunchy. I would LOVE to be part of a fabric of the month club featuring Permin !!!

I would try any fabric you dye! Especially when Karen said that the Wichelt will feel different after the dyeing process. I think it is really smart to be looking for other options when Zweigart is slow to produce. (I understood everything you were saying. We all love Zweigart and still want their linen but let’s be open to new things.) For the fabric, I would stitch on anything that you dye it on. Always a good idea to have your eggs in multiple baskets. I would love to be one to be given a piece to stitch one of your designs on.

Years ago (many) the Permin linen was thinner and we had to be quite gentle when stitching. That sample looks totally different. The Italian is lovely also. I use them all. 💞

Glad Brendan is feeling better, and you're settling into your new studio (though I did miss the doggies). The wall behind you is beautifully arranged, so much prettiness there. I would consider Wichelt. I mostly use Zweigart, but find Wichelt's stiffness helpful when I'm doing patterns with hardanger or other specialty stitches. It keeps my stitches in shape, since I usually stitch in hand. Supply chains have gone wonky on so many things, that it's good to be prepared. Take care, and have a happy and healthy few weeks 😃

I think it’s very smart of you to have a back-up fabric or two to use. It never hurts to have options! I would be very open to giving the Permin base a try. I have used the factory Permin and ask you mentioned, it is stiff. So it would be interesting to see how it feels after it’s hand-dyed. Thanks so much for another great video! I would have no problem with Permin linen as long as it is not too stiff. I like linen to have a little body, softer, but not too loose. Your videos are delightful.

Ive used the Permin Linen and what I do is wash it first and then it is lovely. Hand dying would be equally nice I'm sure. I wash it in the machine with my clothes and then air dry it. I look forward to trying yours.

We have see-through boxes for reels like 100-3 look for Gutermann creativ I have 2 or 3 they holds different amounts 18/27 reels Hope you can get over there 😊 thanks for your floss tube love watching the pair of you and looking at your samples on the wall behind you with envy 😂😊

I have a WIP on Permin linen and I have no problems with it. Better to have options especially when it is your livelihood. Excited to hear my first fabric on the month is on its way. It will be like Christmas!

You have to protect your business and livelihood. I'm fairly new to hand dyed after getting back into xstitching, but even the lower count aida that I have to use is much softer and the spacing is tighter for the hand dyed.The bases so far have been zweigart, but would be willing to try other bases from dyers. The world has changed.

I was watching as you presented all of your Patreon subscriptions, I am in awe of how many that you are trying to do and keep up with! I am looking forward to your model stitch. Glad to see you back in your new space and all better. Craisins are dried cranberries. We add them to salads in 🇨🇦. We have a federal holiday on Monday to honour the Queen but it’s only a day of mourning in Ontario.
I would have thought Monday was the obvious choice as it’s the day of the funeral. I still think it’s strange that our holiday will be Thursday 🤷🏻♀️

Love all the beauties behind you on the wall. What a perfect backdrop to your floss tube. Craisins are dried cranberries - which look like dried raisins only red - so cranberry raisins = craisins. This is something we have in North America. From your reaction, I gathered you do not have those in Australia. By the way, Charles III's reign will be the Caroline era - kind of odd, but that is the proper name for the reign of a Charles. Bren - I will take those spools of thread off your hands for my sewing - the ones in your Tidee Maid. If you want to part with them, let me know and you can throw them into an order and I would pay for the shipping.

I would try out a new fabric base linen if you decide to move with it. Cranraisans are dried cranberries. The are great on salads and oatmeal but best in White Chocolate Oatmeal cookies. If you don't have the recipe, let me know and I will send it to you.

Love the idea of resource availability and options. My questions are … counts. You mentioned 35 vs 36. Do they make a 40/42? And would this make a typical sampler design alter? Say a intended square sampler 240 x 240 stitch would it finish more of a rectangle? Hope I’m clear in that question. Maybe more discussion of the weave and result so to speak. That would ‘warm me up’ as a consumer to something other than the standard. :). Thanks always for keeping us informed and entertained ❤

We think it’s just the 35/36 that is different from Zweigart. 35 threads to the inch for Permin vs 36 threads to the inch for Zweigart. Pretty sure the other counts are the same. The 35ct will barely be any different size wise for a finished project vs 36ct☺️

I think it's a great idea to broaden your linen base. I wouldn't stop at Zweigart and Permin - go for a third option as well. Doesn't Italy have a great linen history?

Love your videos. What a beautiful documentary it was about Melanie. I watched her religiously and knew she wasn’t doing well when she hadn’t uploaded in months. Her story stays with me to this day. Terrible and beautiful at the same time.

As far as using a different linen, other than zweigert, it would be worth a try. The demand is so, that a drain on manufacturing, electricity usage shortage, etc. give it a try. Let individuals try it, respond to you with likes, or dislikes. When in business for oneself, another outlet would be nice. Just in case.

I suspect the randomness of a Thursday public holiday has something to do with the Friday holiday the following day for Grand Final Day thus giving Victorians a 4 day weekend. hmm No less bonkers than a 4 day weekend for a horse race. We have never had a problem storing fabric in plastic tubs. The main thing is to not store them near bright sunlight

I'm glad Bren is feeling better. My hubby and I are going to wake up at 0530 here on the East Coast of the US to watch the funeral and procession. We have all the makings and are going to make a Full English Breakfast- even the Blood Pudding (YES, I like it!). So we are going to watch the coverage all day. My father just had his 80th birthday as well, at the end of August. I am sure all the high level Patrons could forgive you for traveling and having a good time. Maybe one day I can get to a retreat in Australia. :) The Cryptid SAL looks amazing. I am sorry the frame wasn't right though. I think it’s an excellent business decision to diversify your base linen supply. I’m willing to stitch on any linen that’s a good quality (feel, color, etc). I’m not “married” to any particular linen base.

You are right. Cancer does take people too young. My dad was diagnosed in the beginning of May with luekemia. Within 3 months (August), he passed away. It’s been tough, but getting through it day by day and enjoying the things he would have, and spending time with my mum and siblings a lot as well. But I miss dad every day
Oh Shannie, we are so very sorry. My beautiful mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer when she was only 42 and we lost her 3 months later as well so I can certainly relate to the pain and shock you are feeling. It’s a long time ago now but I still miss her every day. Our best thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time🙏🏻❤️

I just love watching you two! Glad Bren is feeling better. It's not just US to Austealia post that gets hung up in Chicago or Los Angeles...you mailed a package to me the day before you left on holiday and it made it to Chicago in a timely manner but then it languished for quite a while and I got the package the day after you got home! Argh!!!! I am loving the Haunted Library SAL but I started the prologue late and am not caught up yet....I figure by the time Chapter 10 comes up, I might be.
