Re: Kate not listening to Jack, as Jack said last season, "Everybody wants me to be the leader until I make a decision that they don't like." Re: Zeke, that's just Sawyer Sawyering.
Jack is right. Everyone asks him to make decisions, and when he does, the survivors who don't agree with those decisions do what they want anyway. He told Kate that the night they opened the hatch. They're ungrateful to him.
Carmen, Zeke is just another nickname of Sawyer, he uses to describe a person. Zeke is a character on the Muppet Show, and is the banjo player for Lubbock Lou and His Jughuggers. He has a shaggy beard, much like Walt's abductor.
I’m with you. I never thought Jack and Kate had a healthy dynamic at this point. Jack is very controlling and they both kill themselves trying to save the other person in ways they wouldn’t want.
I’m actually glad to hear you struggle with Jack’s character. Everyone was pretty enamored with him, but I felt that he had some incredibly unstable characteristics. I just wasn’t as into his hero’s journey as others. But that’s me.
"Zeke" is just another Sawyer nickname. "Zeke" said "Tell me, you go over a man's house for the first time, do you take off your shoes, d'you put your feet up on his coffee table, d'you walk in the kitchen, eat food that doesn't belong to you, open the door to rooms you got no business opening?..." To me, Jack should have responded with "No. But if I bring a kid with me, I also don't expect that man to take the kid and not give him back." And finally, Kate is kind of the hero in this episode. If she hadn't followed, she wouldn't have been captured and chances are either Jack, Sawyer, or Locke would have been shot if she wasn't being held hostage.
I think you misunderstood what the father of Jack told about... He wasn't talking about cheating their wives, but to make that surgery... Christian Shepard told that to Jack, not only because Jack "doesn't have what it takes" (as his father told him in his childhood) but because Jack is a brilliant surgeon and a mistake can mess it up, it cost him his career if the daughter of his patient loses her father in the operation turns against Jack, or at least it could leave a stain in his career
I always took it as Christian reminding Jack that the difference between them is that he (Christian) knows how to mentally handle failure and move on from it, but when Jack fails, it destroys him and he can't get over it because he becomes so emotionally attached trying to play the hero all the time, and in this field you have to be able to get over failure because that is part of the job and if you can't then "you don't have what it takes"
@@Arte822 Yes, you are right, and Christian was as well as we saw in that episode with the departure of Sarah, his wife, and on several different occasions... Jack is stubborne, he can't let go, he's not made that way, it is impossible to do so for him, he is unable to deal with the failure, if he lives one it is very hard for him to handle it
OOOOO so you're HERE and I am excited. Starting from HERE and through the season finale, we're in top gear, and there's only one bad episode (and there's one other I personally find mid but it's not necessarily bad). You are in for a GREAT ride the next 13 weeks!! I'm so excited for you. Plus this one is great for the way these three men psychoanalyzed each other that whole trek.
Jack is a broken dude. I think realizing that (IMO of course) he is meant to be overly heady and make decisions based on pure emotion to highlight his flaws. I originally thought the show was trying to say "this is the main character, he knows what to do", and it's very much not that. Running it back, I have more appreciation for him purely because I like that he is SO flawed. Room to grow, I guess? I dunno. The concept appeals to me. But yeah, I haaaated him first time around also yeah Kate/Jack is... there. It's weird. Sawyer and Kate have much better chemistry
I mean Locke deserves that same energy too lol he knocked Sayid out, drugged Boone, and makes choices for people. On the other hand, I wasn't a fan of Jack on ny first watch but I appreciate him more and more with every rewatch.
@@samnabawy2731 …if I could add a few more. He was also partially responsible for Sayid almost killing Sawyer because he made it seem like Sawyer attacked Sayid instead of himself (and gave Sayid the knife “in case there’s a next time”). He lied about how Boone got hurt and then ran away. He knew that Walt burned the raft but was ok with everyone attacking Jin. He pretended to be looking for a captured Claire but spent all of his time trying to figure out a way into the hatch. Also lied about trying to find food because of the time spent on the hatch. Great character/actor but total POS.
The "Zeke" thing is for (here in France) Captain Caveman (Capitaine Caverne in the french Version), a nick name because of the "first Men" beard. Captain Caveman was a popular cartoon in the 80s. So Zeke must be a character in the same way for you.
"Who are we to tell anyone what they can or can’t do?" Good question, John. You were the one who decided Boone couldn’t tell Shannon about the Hatch. The one who decided Sayid couldn’t find the source of the distress signal. The one who decided Jack had to push the button. It’s weird how the freedom Locke advocated suddenly vanishes when it goes against his own desires.😂
Zeke is merely a nickname and follows Sawyer's modus operandi of giving people nicknames. Zeke is a character on the Muppet Show, and is the banjo player for Lubbock Lou and His Jughuggers. He has a shaggy beard, much like the guy had.
Fascinated by your disdain for Jack-Kate and interest in Sawyer-Kate when Sawyer literally coerced her into kissing him in the first season for the asthma inhalers. There are healthy relationships worth rooting for in this show but honestly neither of these pairings are in that category.
You talk a lot and even if what you say might be interesting you miss a lot of dialogues because talk on them... Maybe it would be a good thing to press pause to talk, that way, you don't miss anything (just an idea... First timers usually don't do that, but I always thought it would be a great idea)
17:50 - RE: "Zeke" - Don't forget that Sawyer (excuse me....James) has a proclivity for making up nicknames for everyone.

Locke being the biggest hypocrit on the island by saying who are we to tell people what they can or can't do 🙄😅

That’s not who Sawyer is referencing. He’s referencing Zeke, a farmhand from The Wizard Of Oz.
@@BillyTheKidLawrenceit’s funny because thought he was calling him Zeke as in short for Ezekiel from the Bible since his beard looks biblical haha

You're right he is referencing the Muppets
