    I have an ethernet cable coming from the house to the exterior internet connection on the rv. There is an interior ethernet jack from which currently I have a long cable stretched to the laptop in an adjoining room. The rv has neither a modem or router. So it was my intention to run an ethernet cable from the interior jack to the TP-Link switch, And then a cable from the switch to the laptop. And a shorter cable from the switch to the back of the dvr. Do you see a problem with this setup?

      I apologize for the late reply, but to answer your question no I do not. The switch should act as a hub for your ethernet connection, much like a wall socket does for electricity. Some switches can protect your ethernet cables from overload as well so I think it would be beneficial and convenient. Hope this helps!

      Hi TechHeaven sorry about the late reply, haven't had time to check comments lately. To answer your question, yes you can. If you're using this exact switch you should be able to plug the LAN into any port and the switch will automatically make all other ports extensions of your connection. If this doesn't help please reply back!

    I have the same product but when I plug in my ethernet cable it doesnt provide internet. The lights keep blinking (all of them), i tried all the 5 ports for but it wont work. what to do?

    • @simplicityelectricity8710
      @simplicityelectricity8710  5 років тому

      Sandjero Sombrero this could be for several reasons, I’ll try to be specific because I know these things can be frustrating.
      Switches don’t usually break so to speak, unlike routers. So you could start by resetting the modem or router that the Ethernet cable you’re trying to plug in is connected to or by plugging it into different ports.
      The chip inside that actually spreads the Ethernet signal to the other ports could be fried, and in this case you’d have to replace the switch outright :(
      Although it’s rare there are cases where switches just aren’t compatible with routers/modems. I doubt that this is your problem but if you really want to try to make it work and not be forced to replace it I would recommend changing some setting in your router/modem, possibly security features? I’m a little fuzzy on that however.

    • @maddin5000
      @maddin5000 4 роки тому +1

      I had the same issue after trying to use the switch in a new/different setup.
      The ONLY way I got it working again was to plug in ALL the same devices that were plugged in before. Then it went back to the async traffic flashing and all devices were connected to the internet.
      Maybe it was caused by TP Link Wireless Nano N Router which was also connected to the switch. The Nano Router's job was to host an independant WLAN network (which he did). But the router also offers many other networking modes (WISP-Client, Client, Repeater, AP) and might have changed to one of them when I was unplugging all the lan cables in random order. And that other mode might have caused the issue.

      Martin Schneider honestly this probably helps anyone who reads the comments. Most of the stuff I review is quite old in comparison to what’s on shelves. I just find the older devices more practical, but I can see how they could not be compatible with a lot of new technology.

    • @simplicityelectricity8710
      @simplicityelectricity8710  5 років тому

      Jamel Haynes the ATT router should have ports on the back that you can plug anything into, this includes switches. If it’s causing your router to disconnect from the internet I would try all the ports on the back and if that doesn’t cut it it could be an electrical issue. Extra protection always helps. If you feel replacing the router or switch would be annoying or a financial issue then yes, but if not then you can do whatever is more convenient and they will still function the same with or without a surge protector. If you could go into more detail about the disconnecting I could tell you more?

    So if I attack an ethernet cable connected to wifi and two other wires for pc, does the initial cable make the other two work as well?

    • @theexile4694
      @theexile4694 2 роки тому

      The way this device works is the following...
      ISP(Internet Service Provider) -> House -> Wall Outlet -> Router -> Wi-Fi + Unmanaged Switch -> Your Devices you want on the internet.
      The Router handles IP Protocol communication, AKA IPv4 with NAT(Network Address Translation) or IPv6 ( no NAT required ). Try to use IPv6 when you can and avoid IPv4 all together as it introduces NAT which can severely limit your ability to play with others or even just play properly and you wouldn't even notice.
      The Router creates a Wi-Fi Field and Network that other wireless devices can connect to.
      The Router also tends to provide some ports that you can use to connect up devices physically, with a cable, vs using Wi-Fi.
      This device, the one being reviewed in the video (TP Link TL SF1005D), is called an Unmanaged Switch. All it really does is add physical ports, if all the ports on the Router are taken up. For it to work you need what is called a dedicated backhaul cable, It's just a basic CAT cable of sufficient quality, aka CAT 5e, CAT 6, CAT6e, etc, coming from one of the Router's ports to this Unmanaged Switch. After that, you connect up other devices, via wire, to the Unamanged switch, and now those devices have a wired connection to your network.

    • @simplicityelectricity8710
      @simplicityelectricity8710  3 роки тому

      Yung Pizzaaa yes you can. One port on the back of the switch is what provide internet throughout the switch (it’s usually labeled). The ethernet cord going to your pc needs to go into that port. Then you can use more cords to connect your pc and your PS4 to the ports on the back of the switch.

    I'm confused by ethernet. Are there different types of ethernet cords and only one type will work with this? I've tried using other varieties of ethernet, and they do not appear to work with this device.

    • @simplicityelectricity8710
      @simplicityelectricity8710  4 роки тому

      Adam Blumer there are several types of ethernet cords, the most notable ones being called CAT5 and CAT6 or some variation with those numbers. Any ethernet cord should work with this device, but some cords transmit data at faster rates among other things. It may be something in the device itself not responding to the cords, perhaps it may not be able to detect the cords being plugged in. Does your switch have lights indicating when something is plugged in?

    • @simplicityelectricity8710
      @simplicityelectricity8710  3 роки тому

      Yes it will. Usually a switch will have 4-5 ports on the back to connect ethernet. One of these ports will be labeled or colored differently usually, that’s the one you connect to your modem or router via Ethernet. After that one cable is connected the others will provide internet when cables are connected to them.

    I don't think you understand how a power supply works. The PSU specs state a voltage and amperage and the only one of those two that's fixed is the voltage whereas the amp rating simply indicates the maximum it can output but how much is actually delivered depends on what its connected to. This means that if that device is 5v/600ma and you use a psu that's rated at 5v/6000ma, it will work just fine and the psu will only deliver 5v/600ma.

    • @simplicityelectricity8710
      @simplicityelectricity8710  4 роки тому +1

      Yes you should be able to. If the switches look like the one in the video, just connect an Ethernet cable from one of the 4 ports on the back of one switch and run it to the outlined port on the back of the other switch. It’s hard to notice in the video, but some switches only accept internet through one port, which is usually outlined or a different color. Sometimes switches can accept it through any port though in which case plug it into any of them.

    What does 10/100mbps means? Can i connect it to 4k tv or is the bandwith too small?

    • @simplicityelectricity8710
      @simplicityelectricity8710  5 років тому +1

      Stelios Koupepides 10/100 is a standard used by many switches that indicates that device can determine the speed of the device it’s connected to, being either 10mbps or 100mbps. To put it simply, if your internet connection exceeds this or if you have a lot of high grade equipment then the bandwidth may be too small. Odds are however that this device can be connected to any 4K tv or any other device just fine without limiting quality. If you feel like my explanation didn’t quite answer your question there are plenty of helpful resources online that could explain it better than me.

I’m not an expert on doing that however so I’d recommend a UA-cam video that shows you how to find the IPs of connected devices. Usually if you unplug it and refresh the list one of the IPs should disappear and then you’ll know it’s for the switch
