My favorite part “That night I put my youth in a casket And buried it inside of me That night I saw through all the magic Now I’m a witness to the death of a hero”
i don't know why but this song reminded me of my father. My dad was a drug addict, a gambler and an alcoholic. My family, my mom and my childhood and teenhood was hell because of him. After he divorced with my mother, he re married and we went separate way. I still meet with my father but maybe once a month but then its just for a few hours. Although I am the eldest of 3 siblings, I was pretty spoilt. But when my dad left, I " put my youth in my casket ". I become more mature and strong. I love my dad, to me he is my hero, but sometimes I felt that he was already gone from my life. Death of a Hero...
Idzuan Idris tHaT was kind of like me, but my moms bipolar and she used to hit me when I was little and my mother and father got divorced when I was 1 year old and they never got remarried. She came back and left over and over again for 10 years But they got divorced for good this time 3 years ago and my dad couldn’t be happier because he now has me, my step mom, and my two step sisters. I am happy for him and I got my dream of having sisters, but I can’t help but feel forgotten my mother is always with her boyfriend and I feel like my dad is forgetting me. Since they got divorced 3 years ago I have been depressed and nobody will help me and I have done some pretty despicable things to myself but no one cares so why should I.
sorry for everything buddy. you have " put your youth in the casket and move on. its so much more out there for us. I know its not my place to say this but please don't do anything that you might regret because we got only one life and lets do our best to make meaningful, for our self and people around us.
Honestly I relate my dad is clean now and never remarried but he did hit my mum and nearly died from overdosing and he lives 3 hours away and I didn't even get to visit him in the hospital I rarely get to see him but I got to see him today so that was nice 😊
Dude he deserves to be a celebrity. Be in the spotlight instead of those music artist that aren't even good. But I think it's good Alec hasn't reached stardom, who knows what the music industries might do to him. They might even change his music into those non sensible pop music, just no.

I remember when my hero let me down. He basically created my childhood. Drama erupted, and truth spread out. I just didn't see someone I admired anymore, just a mere rip off afterwards. It hurt, and changed the way I saw my childhood shows, the things he created.
Hi Alec I know you won’t read this because I’m just another fan girl to you... but I know how much time and effort goes into every song you make and even though it may be hard sometimes we love you and we hope you never give up, keep up the amazing work !!
You are not just another fan girl. You put such little faith in yourself.I hope you have a great amazing night. You are beautiful and strong and powerful and I think the rest of the people that like Alec agrees.
This is some of the most amazing music I've ever heard. The music is gorgeous and the story is emotional and powerful. I can't believe someone could make something this beautiful, this is truly touching. The "Death of a Hero", representing the realization that not everyone you look up to is as benevolent as they seem is so sad but true. Putting your "youth in a casket" is one of the saddest things about growing up. Not only physical youth but the innocence of being a child and the magic you live in as a child dying is truly tragic. 20/20, my new favorite song.
I think what this song meant was that//: Alec had seen something or a secret that the person he respects so much, do something bad that he looses respect for him. To this, it lead him hate or some other negative feelings // like frustration, whatnot // and to the point that he burnt this person he respects so much's pictures and everything related to this person. He kept all he believed while he was in his youth that this person had done in casket, as if he's saying that this is all a lie. And the death may not actually he a death, it's probably the respect or trust or something. And the lone that he says he doesn't realized, he probably refuse to do so, cuz he doesn't want to see/recognize the person he once respect so much
+[AGP] Peakjas well, the meaning of the song can be understood in many ways, like art and poetry, but I understood it not cuz I'm good at English, I suck at it, tbh. But I think it's all in how your emotions sees it, I guess, or just personal experiences translated into a song/art/poetry(etc)
+Laurène Caillebot true, but at the same time not?? cuz Annabelle's homework is like Death of a Hero cuz its so detailed, who knows maybe it also has another meaning but that's still true too
For me, this song talks about Jon Bellion. Alec said in a recent interview it was about someone who he really looked up too and who dissapointed him, he was one of his favourite artists, but he's scared to say who. I say that it's about Jon Bellion because Alec co-wroted a song with him (New york soul pt. II), and he even sings on the chorus on the song, but didn't get credit for it. At least that's what I think.
I had this song playing on my phone while I was in the shower, and I was sitting in the bathtub letting it fill up while the water was coming out of the showerhead over me, and I was listening to these lyrics when all of the sudden the meaning of it hit me. It really spoke to me, I feel like I lost a lot of role models this year, people I looked up and/or trusted who’s veil I finally saw through as I grew up and matured and it caused a lot of pain. This song offered me a lot of realization and closure in a time when I was still lost and hurt by everyone I used to idolize.
This is exactly what is special about Alec's songs and why I enjoy them so much. They are just so honest and straight forward. So simple yet so complex. The songs are as clear as glass. And the simplicity and plain honesty add so much depth and character. So, thank you, Alec, for giving the world the gift of your music.
It sounds like he's talking about a father, Superman was what he thought a father should be like "Superman" started doing drugs and strayed away from everything good. He's afraid of the death of the father and that one day he'll have to bury him, he saw through everything good and saw what was going on and realized what the father has become. :(
Dear alec, you've helped me so much throughout the past year, without your music i wouldn't be where i am today. you've helped me discover myself and i can't thank you enough..
To my Hero, and love, Joshua Dickey. May you rest in peace 12/12/2020. This song give me chills, as Alec Benjamin was one of our favorite artists to fire dance to. It has been weeks, and I still cry uncontrollably to this song.
i think this song is about a kid who looked up to his father as his hero. on the first line of the song he talks about how "superman" was doing lines or something in the bathroom which i think he is talking about drugs, and he also talks about how he doesnt recognize him, thats because his dad probably doesnt do that type of thing around him, and when he talks about he's a witnnes to the death of a hero, i think he meant"he is no longer my superman". By when he says he threw away the pictures in the attic i think he meant,"i got rid of all the memmories that we had". For all the people that have to go through this, I pill pray for you and wish you the best of luck, i hope things get better for you (:

Hey man. I love this song, and love your music. The other night I discovered something about my dad that has made me feel like I’ve witnessed the death of a hero. This song is helping me, and I thank you for that. I don’t know if you read these but I thought I’d say I’m thankful for your music. Thanks bro.
Unironically this song described my father. He was always described by our family as our superman, we didnt know until I was about 10, but he had a terrible drug addiction. This ruined my teenage and childhood for 16 years and the things I saw were horrifying due to the drugs he did. My father went from superman to a stranger, and only died of a drug overdose last year. He loved superman before he got onto drugs. Had a shirt, had a superman ring, he was literally my superman. Unforunately he died last year and now we are engraving a superman symbol on his grave. This whole song describes the feelings ive had until this point...
My dad died of cancer 1 year ago today... and I was just browsing through youtube because.. I am sad.. and I stumbled upon this song... and it just reminds me of my dad.. he was, in a way, a hero. He wasn't a firefighter or a policeman or superman, in fact, he was not even employed and on top of that he and my mom never got along. My mom is very head strong, stubborn and she can get very hard to tolerate but I love her anyway. Even though my mom did not want my dad to live in our house with us in Oregon and had him move to North Carolina, he always sent us letters and we would send him letters back as much as possible. We never called much but I wish we had because now I would do ANYTHING to hear his voice again, but I never will. Anyway long long long story short. This song reminds me of my dad. who was my hero. He was always there for me and my little sister and I jut wish I could have been there more for him.
"Now I'm a witness to the death of a hero" Reminds me of my dog..she save me from committing suicide 5 times helped me with deppression and anxiety and helped me recover from anorexia she was a hero and a amazing dog RIP baby girl!💞😭
Why am I just discovering this now! This is such a beautiful song. Haven’t heard something this good in a while. Lyrics, production, vocals, all amazing! We’re so lucky to experience this. Keep it coming.
Any foster kids or past foster kids able to relate to this? If so, I just want you to know you are relevant and you are important. It may not seem like it now, but you will be able to control your future and what happens to you. You can make a difference. I know you probably don’t trust a stranger from the internet with a dumb user name, a Pidge icon, and I sound like a poster in a classroom, but I just want you to know, no matter how hard it gets, and no matter how many ups and downs you have, you aren’t a lost cause, even if your heroes turn out to just be civilians. I wish you the best of luck.❤️

I was in Pittsburgh when I saw Superman in the backroom
He was doing lines or something in the bathroom
I barely recognized him at all
I saw him doing things you shouldn't do with all that power
I wish someone would have thrown him in the shower
I barely recognized him at all
That night I put my youth in a casket
And buried it inside of me
That night I saw through all the magic
Now I'm a witness to the death of a hero
I burned all the pictures in the attic
And threw away the magazines
That night I saw through all the magic
And now I'm a witness to the death of a hero
I tried to look away but you can't look away from a trainwreck
The things you said to girls, well they were shameless
I barely recognized him at all
I tried to help but he said he was just too far from saving
And nothing I could say was gonna change him
I barely recognized him at all
That night I put my youth in a casket
And buried it inside of me
That night I saw through all the magic
Now I'm a witness to the death of a hero
I burned all the pictures in the attic
And threw away the magazines
That night I saw through all the magic
And now I'm a witness to the death of a hero
The death of a hero, he couldn't be saved
Now I'm cutting the grass and I'll cover his grave
I'll cover his grave
The death of a hero, I'm turning the page
Now I'm cutting the grass and I'll cover his grave
I'll cover his grave
That night I put my youth in a casket
And buried it inside of me
That night I saw through all the magic
Now I'm a witness to the death of a hero
I burned all the pictures in the attic
And threw away the magazines
That night I saw through all the magic
And now I'm a witness to the death of a hero

Such a underrated song! Please keep singing!!!!!!
I remember when my hero let me down. He basically created my childhood. Drama erupted, and truth spread out. I just didn't see someone I admired anymore, just a mere rip off afterwards. It hurt, and changed the way I saw my childhood shows, the things he created.
Who was you hero
Hi Alec I know you won’t read this because I’m just another fan girl to you... but I know how much time and effort goes into every song you make and even though it may be hard sometimes we love you and we hope you never give up, keep up the amazing work !!
Praise💛💛💛💛
You are not just another fan girl. You put such little faith in yourself.I hope you have a great amazing night. You are beautiful and strong and powerful and I think the rest of the people that like Alec agrees.
The amazing world of Meg Grant Fat or fan?
This comment is why commas matter....
That night he saw through all the magic. Now he came to the harsh reality of being an adult.
Honestly it's not that hard to understand ;)
+Laurène Caillebot true, but at the same time not?? cuz Annabelle's homework is like Death of a Hero cuz its so detailed, who knows maybe it also has another meaning but that's still true too
"I burned all the pictures in the attic"
For me, this song talks about Jon Bellion. Alec said in a recent interview it was about someone who he really looked up too and who dissapointed him, he was one of his favourite artists, but he's scared to say who. I say that it's about Jon Bellion because Alec co-wroted a song with him (New york soul pt. II), and he even sings on the chorus on the song, but didn't get credit for it. At least that's what I think.
I probably replayed this 10000 times already.
Me too

I had this song playing on my phone while I was in the shower, and I was sitting in the bathtub letting it fill up while the water was coming out of the showerhead over me, and I was listening to these lyrics when all of the sudden the meaning of it hit me. It really spoke to me, I feel like I lost a lot of role models this year, people I looked up and/or trusted who’s veil I finally saw through as I grew up and matured and it caused a lot of pain. This song offered me a lot of realization and closure in a time when I was still lost and hurt by everyone I used to idolize.
How does he write these really meaningful songs? I love how every song tells a story ❤️

Amanda Finn All his songs are great

Its Alec Benjamin we're talking about, of course it'll be a great one
It sounds like he's talking about a father, Superman was what he thought a father should be like "Superman" started doing drugs and strayed away from everything good. He's afraid of the death of the father and that one day he'll have to bury him, he saw through everything good and saw what was going on and realized what the father has become. :(
Maybe not nesessarily a father but an idol

To my Hero, and love, Joshua Dickey. May you rest in peace 12/12/2020. This song give me chills, as Alec Benjamin was one of our favorite artists to fire dance to. It has been weeks, and I still cry uncontrollably to this song.
Alec is underrated, he deserves more recognition
i think this song is about a kid who looked up to his father as his hero. on the first line of the song he talks about how "superman" was doing lines or something in the bathroom which i think he is talking about drugs, and he also talks about how he doesnt recognize him, thats because his dad probably doesnt do that type of thing around him, and when he talks about he's a witnnes to the death of a hero, i think he meant"he is no longer my superman". By when he says he threw away the pictures in the attic i think he meant,"i got rid of all the memmories that we had". For all the people that have to go through this, I pill pray for you and wish you the best of luck, i hope things get better for you (:
Your music is so deep and I cry every time

Hey man. I love this song, and love your music. The other night I discovered something about my dad that has made me feel like I’ve witnessed the death of a hero. This song is helping me, and I thank you for that. I don’t know if you read these but I thought I’d say I’m thankful for your music. Thanks bro.
I just listened to this song for the first time it is way to relatable and the sudden part where he was low-key rapping caught me off guard.
Very fitting for the dsmp fandom rn…
I am continuously impressed by your work. I have no words for how much I love you as an artist.
This has such a deep meaning and I'm shook. I'm choked up. Alec, you did it again. You're absolutely amazing.
I absolutely love it. His voice, the lyrics, the style. It is just perfect. ♥️
a friend recommended me this song and since then no song has ever beaten to this till date. ❤
Why aren't you world famous yet. You really deserve it! Good luck alec🖤
he so good at turning stories and actual feelings into songs
He was always there for me and my little sister and I jut wish I could have been there more for him.
who else wants to know who is one of Alec Benjamin's hero?
I was witnessing the "death of music" until I came across this!!! So good and creative...
