They were both exceptionally good together and Karen had an unbelievable vocal range. There will *never* be another Karen Carpenter. She was unique and one of a kind.
Can you imagine being the first one to really hear her - to discover THAT voice? Absolutely breath-taking! He must have had shivers running through him. There has never been a voice like that and maybe never will again.
Saw this movie in 89 and never stopped watching .. I just love the scene at 2.25 when she is in the wrong key and a few seconds later...... magic..... goosebumps!
Something to consider: would there have been a "Karen" if not for Richard? He was the one who pushed her to sing (she thought of herself as a drummer). He also lovingly couched the sound we know in he incredible arrangements, pitching them in the key for her "money voice."
@@DTR396 - You may have a point. But tell that to a label guy who simply hears the more beautiful of the two voices. He really doesn’t care where it came from. Especially if he doesn’t perceive the original source as useful to him. I’m not trying to downplay Richard’s talent. But it’s just the harsh reality of the business.
@@DTR396 Absolutely. While someone can be a great talent, it takes a creative force to really make things happen. To a much lesser extent, if you look at the band Echosmith, they had a huge record with all four siblings, and the sister got most of the attention as the lead vocalist, but the oldest brother was actually the creative force of the band, and when he left to to focus on starting a family, they were never the same.
Flawed as it may be, I've gotta say that I think Cynthia Gibb did a very good job as Karen. Hard to believe that she would be sixty three had she lived. RIP Karen, the girl with the one in a million golden voice. you will always be a star, and rich as well.
Karen was not able praised by her mother. That's really a big mistakes that her own mother committed to her. It had been always Richard was the top priority of their mother. That:s really bad, that's why Karen had a lot of insecurities about herself and it caused to her death.
All of my Life is my favorite Carpenter tune, and it was just the B-side of We’ve Only Just Begun. (back when they had 45’s kids there were these things called B-sides)
Damn, that was voice was magnificent!! Especially the way she holds and articulates the lyric "comes" in. "before the winter comes" Eve I woul... She had such an original technique, you cant teach someone to sing a note like that..
+ncisfan29 The movie fails in comparison to their bio that was co-written by Richard himself. He goes more into Karen's illness and the pressures of stardom.
Imo, this won't happen until after Richard's gone. He's very protective of his legacy. Sadly, no one ever truly there for one-of-a-kind Karen and her legacy. 😢
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams...........................
it is always about the sons; the daughter doesn't exist. If she does, she MUST NOT be better, or even equal to the sons.Basically, the daughter does not exist. She was an afterthought...why do you think so many female babies in developing economies are aborted or drowned? If one is a younger sister, it is anathema to be in any way more remarkable than one's male sibling.Richard Carpenter was soul devoured and soul murdering in his envy: consciously or not he shared resposibility 4 her death.
@runly1 It was not that he was a crappy producer it was the fact that he refused to allow anything to make his mother look bad. The fact was Agnes Carpenter was really a bad mother. While she claimed to be proud of both her kids, Richard was her favorite and Karen's talent was just a lucky happenstance, she was unable to show any care or compassion to her daughter and refused to believe that Karen had an eating disorder even with the evidence right under her nose...
@akapitaRN LOL!! I was sitting here thinking the same thing. They couldn't find a more natural looking wig? In my Grandmother's words, "That wig looks like they bought from Woolworths!"
I know this film was panned--& perhaps deserrvedly so, but that said, I absolutely loved Cythia Gibb & her portrayal of Karen Capenter. Cynthia was spot-on perfect, at least when she was singing Karen';s songs, & for that alone, the film is worth watching. Wolfsky9
@APRIL62318 Little Girl Blue contains quotes from Karen's closest friends and confidants. People like Olivia Newton-John, Dorothy Hamill and Cherry Boone-O'Neil along with Eleven Wallace (The Carpenters personal secretary) and Karen's two closest friends Karen Ramon and Frenda Leffler, who where both witness to Agnes' complete disregard for her daughter.
Trivia: The special version of "All Of My Life" played at 2:38 has never been released on any album. It features a piano track that is different from anything that has been officially released under the same song title. Note that it also lacks the background vocals, the stacked harmonization that has become the signature Carpenters' sound. Also, the key here isn't in the key of "A".... it's "A# Major". In the albums, however, the song is played in the key of 'A'.
@APRIL62318 I highly reccomend that you read the book "Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter." by Randy Schimt.. If you want to know Karen's real story that is the book to read, once your finished it you will understand exactly what I mean when I said Agnes Carpenter was not the best motherin the world...
@Carpentersfan2003 while this movie may be flawed in some way because no one knows the truth about karen except richard carpenter and the rest of the family. however the story of karen carpenter should be a wake up call to those who are obssed with looking perfect like models and movie stars. it is important to remember that even movie stars are not perfect and they have to eat right and excercise there is one thing they have that many people the right money for plastic surgery.
+Marilyn Monroe Official Channel, by Peter Sneyder I agree with you, but the new movie should be based of the title of book "Little Girl Blue(?)" by Randy Schmidt. It tells all the story of what really happened to Karen Carpenter.
It is not supposed to be funny. She died from Anorexia. Yes, Richard might regret doing it but it is the truth. SHE HAD ANOREXIA. What do you mean 5 Minutes of it makes sense? You are a Karen Carpenter fan you should like this movie.
@Crimson0089 There are several pop artists, or have been, whose material doesn't interest me but I like their voices and the general production. With the Carpenters, I just unfocus from the content and listen to the amazing qualities of the productions. I live in France now and there's a lot of great music here I just like the sound of. Ditto for a recent visit to Turkey.
@Carpentersfan2003 I've been associated with the music industry for decades and without even looking or wanting to hear it, I keep hearing very, very creepy and dark stuff about this family. Never in detail, people clam right up.
@tonyf734atl it IS on the released version of "Ticket to Ride" Vocally and musically it is the same just played a bit faster on the movie which i also have :) :)
Wow this is inaccurate. Karen Carpenter never wanted to be a singer on stage. She wanted to lay drums and backup vocals. She was very self conscious about her appearance. It is very apparent in her real life documentaries.
That is Only for God to decide. Her life was done. God is not thru with you. *(Jeremiah 29:11) what a plan He has for your life. Always worth waiting for
Herb Alpert knew talent when he heard it. The Carpenters single handedly made A&M records in the 70s. I still have this recorded. Love the song!

It’s the kind of voice that’s sent from Heaven only once and only for a brief moment.

No one's singing has ever touched me as much as hers still does. Wonderful.

The look on the producer's face is what makes it even more. Her final song, Now, is great too.
"Now" was heartbreaking as I was sobbing knowing that she was going to die of heart fail are in 1983.
That voice still brings tears to my eyes
she kicks ass in key A.. she blows that guy under the water.. love that part
Sweetest voice I've ever heard
That final recording.. Now.. how beautiful!

What a voice of an angel. The movie is sad what happened to Karen bless her
I loved her voice I wanna have voice like her.
I grew up listening to the Carpenters. Karen had such an amazing voice. The movie certainly didn't do their bio any justice.
KlassyKat45 because it was mostly about her

The old woman bullied Karen to death; truly!
You mean her mother?
I think that there should be a cinematic biopic for the Carpenters

Louise Fletcher... her range of emotions. No better Nurse Ratchett.

That voice heaven sent.
yes, She died at age 32, 1983, I believe. she had a heart attack b/c of her anorexia.
Died: 4 February 1983, at the age of 32.
Her heart just failed from the.lack of vitamins & Potassium, she starved herself to death
She had a heart attack because her heart was weekend by the use of syrup.of ipecac to make her throw up.
