Hey! I'm Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. When I was 18, I was signed to a major label and at 23 I founded the world's largest set of music colleges, currently valued at $100m.

Being in the industry, I would agree with all of that advice, and add that you make sure you have a current press kit (EPK) with a well-written bio. Often we copy and paste these as small article posts if we don't have time (or if we're unsure if the band is worth the time) to produce full editorials. If a band is unsigned we generally ignore all recording release PR (singles/albums etc), mostly because it tends to be crap, but also we have so much coming through from the big labels that we would need to bump to post your indy home recording that will generate zero traffic, we just delete them usually. Insider tip: if you're touring as support for a major band, trust me that is gold to music mags! Put together a road trip diary with photos and video, get mag photographers and reviewers to the gigs to cover you and the headliner. We would drop anything to get backstage access, and if you're our insider guys, that's instant brownie points and long-time love from us.
