I think rick cutting his hand off is comparable to an animal chewing it’s own leg off if trapped to try and escape. I think it’s the best representation of losing a limb since Hershel. Ricks return is incredible.
It's exactly what I was hoping for.
Because they've already had others lose limbs and because they already had him almost lose it by way of someone else doing it, the only option seemed to be for him to cut it off himself while trying to get home.
I honestly don't think they could have done it any other way.

I do think Rick and Okafor fully trusted each other by the end. Somehow in one episode, they successfully introduced a brand new character and you got a sense that he’s on the same level as a character we watched grow for 9 seasons. Both have experienced a devastating loss- but Okafor grew and learned to thrive in the new world. He rose the ranks, but he wants the system to change. He sees Rick as an equal and he wants Rick to become something better. I think Rick will continue Okafor’s mission and maybe even lead the Civic Republic.
It really does feel like the end of TWD and the beginning of something else.
Hope that’s how it goes too. Honestly don’t want Rick being, like “yeah, sure let’s go home.” Why? It would make the first episode kind of pointless and I think it be a lot more interesting for Rick to continue Okafor’s plan. I also dislike the constant running away theme, which will happen if he just decides to go home.
That is plausible but to do that he must set up a coup and overthrow the current military and political leadership,having first attracted a substantial number of military officers to his aim.A bit difficult to do soon and in 5 episodes.

That chopper crash was the bomb! I watched it 4 times .it made you almost feel like you were in it. Great episode as well. Him chopping his hand off in the first minutes, the flash of the sword as Michone was runner up to kill then see it’s Rick.

I really liked Okafor and definitely didn't expect or want him to go out like that in the first episode. Also the general Beale feels like a menacing character
Rick rizzing Michonne in the first 5 minutes was hilarious to me
I don’t think Michonne and Rick will be on opposite sides of the conflict but I DO think that they need to come into alignment on values and next steps. They have both been on VERY different paths and have diverging worldviews and now I think Rick has committed himself to the task of taking down or reforming the CRM. I think that Richonne has always worked so well because they possess a deep mutual respect and appreciation for each other’s character and integrity and I think the ultimate conflict between them is realizing how much both have changed but ALSO how much they are willing to do for each other, how they are each other’s strength. I think once they have at it a little, I think Michonne will start to see Rick’s POV and will SUPPORT him in his cause. That’s what they've ALWAYS done for each other, challenge one another's decisions but act as the best goddamn team and lovers in the whole franchise. either way, sign me the FUCK up!!!
I think Rick wants to leave with Michonne as soon as it's safe for them to do so....but Michonne is going to want to take them down because of her friends and all the innocent they can hurt...she will want to stop them but Rick just wants to leave now Because she back in his life and he wants to get her out of there safe and fast
I know it's kinda messed up, but I thought Michonne was gonna be the one to end up cutting off Rick's hand before they realized who the other were, but it happened early and by his own.....hand 👋

gimple said morgan goes to find rick but gets diverted..to the (underground supermarket rebellian from world beyond) that we find out later Oakafor has been fostering quietly? technically rick will inherit his new secret army - with morgan and mo at the ready
rick now keeps them hidden in the wild. "i said you would always find people morgan'' and the rebellian make it to enforce govt oversight of crm..
Morgan will appear in the final episode when Rick and Michonne will be escaping,perhaps helping them at some dangerous moment,appearing out of nowhere.
Would be interesting. But i don't think rick will make it out.

I loved it! It was dark, intense, and we got so much info on the CRM. I really like the new characters too. It was better than i was even hoping for. I can't wait to see how this all plays out
thank god rick is back, it's like we have The Walking Dead back, i cannot see them going back to Alexandra as we know where they are
I expect others to join them they will do what they always do and sort the shit out they will decide not to lead them back to Alexandra Jadis knows too much

This is essentially a remake Rick is the main character there not bound to any comic book story lines which is really exciting I'd like to see Rick embrace role initiate a coup and take over CRM

the biggest thing i liked about it was the dark nature about it, it wasnt some joke like FTWD, the music and ambiance helped with it alot. Im just hoping we see how the CRM deal with the mutations of walkers

I'm a massive TWD fan. I watched this an automatically thought this is how's its gonna go. Once she found Rick they couldn't leave because major beale might know about Rick's family and again be fearful that he might come after them. So in a nut shell Rick will end up taking control of the crm after killing beale. I reckon everyone will end up living in phildelphia all happy. Obviously there's gonna be more meat on the bone.
I think he came back and still has a great performance as Rick but he does seem a lot different. Season 9 Rick looks way different. I guess that's the time jump too

10 out 10! Perfect episode to me. I even liked the dream sequences because those were his peaceful moments in his all around crappy existence trapped in the CRM. I feel that girl whos accent is awful will definately be the Dwight death. That might be the moment Rick will have to make a tough choice that Okafor was talking to Rick about.
The first episode highlighting the last 5 years is fine but I hope the rest of the season is not jumping around so much
I absolutely love just how well they showed Rick tried to escape. Bit worried they wouldn’t pull it off but they did and I love the reunion happening at the end. The scene was both epic and emotional. Glad we don’t have to wait the full show for it. I look forward to the story next. I hope Rick works within the CRM to reform it. He might be more willing to now that he can see Michonne and maybe she can help him from the outside.

Have you thought that there may be a mirror senario, when rick went to see morgan and morgan was crazy rick gave morgan a map, the same could happen where morgan gives back the map to rick and rick eventually sets out to meet morgan again once he reads what rick wrote on the map to morgan years prior? Just a thought.
Imagine if Rick has to go war with Negan again like when Negan is in New York he gets a massive army of people and the crm has to wipe them out so Rick teams up with him instead of fighting then they both take out the crm leaders and make it an army for the people and also Rick goes to the commonwealth and takes over like in the comics
I think the bench talks with Michonne were a callback to Rick’s grief-stricken talks with the dead Lori and the others on the phone. Even though he looks ‘sane’ I think these talks show his delusion. Rick has had many times mental breaks with reality .
I am also questioning if any of his talks on that bench with Beale and his friend really happened or were they just in his head...like Michonne
Oh and in his last episode, it was one big hallucination.

I don’t believe that Beale is knighting Rick in that scene with the coffin. I think it’s for okafor since he’s the one who died and even tho beale was suspicious of him, he was still the leader of the CRM military so it only makes sense for it to be okafor.
I think rick is definitely going to be torn on what to do with michonne showing up ultimately I believe he'll snap out of the controller and fight to return home i just hope he isn't the bad guy for the series and the rick we know and love is still in there
I've watched so many breakdown videos for the 1st episode and none of them references the fact that FTWD exists.

I need help! I loved this 1st episode I got right back into Rick and TWD. But, I missed some of Fear only caught bits and bobs. I never had the opportunity to catch the nuke sub only the aftermath, Omaha being destroyed, was that one of the spin off WD,s? I need help cause I feel like I am missing pieces that are crucial to this. Where can I get caught up to speed?
Really curious if Morgan will make an appearance in the show.
Just a theory. In the Daryl series there is a part where they show a flashback of Carol speaking to Daryl over the walkie. She tells him someone is back but some static cuts out the message. I honestly think it's Morgan since he returned at the end of Fear to Eastman cabin before he was going to head to Alexandria.
Was thinking about how epic it would be if all the shows tied up, especially with the 6 biggest characters from TWD:
1) Daryl Dixon S2 is already taking place and Carol will most likely be helping him.
2) Dead City S2 is already in the works. Maggie will most likely head back to help Negan.
3) Other interesting points is that at the end of TWD and FTWD:
- Mercer is heading up the commonwealth.
- Ezekiel is heading up Alexandria.
- Dwight and Sherry are heading up the Sanctuary with FTWD survivors.
- Oceanside is still there.
4) What if The Ones Who Live S1 was to end with Rick and Michonne heading back to Alexandria and either a follow up season or series was to happen where the others (Daryl, Carol, Negan, Maggie (Hilltop leader), Ezekiel (Alexandria leader), Mercer (Commonwealth leader), Dwight (Sanctuary leader), Oceanside and Morgan help Rick and Michonne to prepare for the impending attack of Beale and the CRM. At the end of it all Rick takes everyone to the City of the CRM.
Crm would flatten them,this is not the mcu buddy

I liked the show. I honestly didn't expect R&M to meet up so soon. I figured next week's episode was what Michonne's episode and maybe by the end of #2 or even during # 3 they would find each other. I wanted to get used to the pace and just get into the WD world before they met up. Still was a very good episode. Rick looked awesome in uniform. I DO think other characters would show up in this show! I sure hope so!

In my opinion, i loved the start of the season. Now i just hope that the rest of episodes will be exciting as the first one.
I do not agree with the SNL skits take, even while when I first watched the episode, I found it an interesting choice yet beautifully done and well acted. However, watching it after that I actually enojoyed it and Michonne's constant message of "I believe in you." Also, she tells him that he is not stuck and I take that meaning deeper than surface level. But, I think they tried very hard to show us that Michonne is always on Rick's mind so not only does he write letters to her, but also dreams of them meeting in a different time. If people could wrap their minds around this being about Rick and Michonne's relationship and not a reboot of the original series, I think these people would enjoy the episode and series so much more. It is an epic love story. The conflct, story is going to be about their love.
You are right @demiloyoung3647. Danai and Andrew in their interviews says it’s an epic love story about 2 people trying to find each other. I believe all of the producers have said that in their many interviews

Ricks going to definitely die. Why? Because what’s the best way to end a fan favourite besides giving them everything they were after. They said it’s only going to be six episodes and I have no faith in there being anymore after this.

Gosh I really hope Rick doesn't die in this series but I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be the last time we see our beloved Rick. It looks like this whole CRM storyline is mirroring the commonwealth storyline (from the comics) a tad but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Also, I wonder if Rick does live, will he and Michonne go separate ways seeing as Rick has spent so long away from her and is almost a different person. Idk just thinking out loud.
As I go down through this comment section, I can't help but think did I watch something different from what all these people watched? I'm sorry, but I just couldn't get past the fact that Rick cut off his own hand with a hatchet and was still able to keep running around until he was able to stick his own arm inside a burning walker to stop it from bleeding out. I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but I am pretty sure if I was dumb enough to cut my own hand off, just to try to get away from someone who had me tethered to some guard, I would find a better way to get away, and if I did cut my own hand off, I wouldn't be "able" to go running around looking for a way to stop the bleeding. I was so excited to finally be able to see this episode and then I was crushed by the way they brought Rick back. This, for me, was nowhere near as good as "any" of the originals. Hope the next one makes up for it. Sorry, just "my" opinion.

Yeah, I'm happy they didn't pull the whole Rick looks after the little girl and later dies. Since they keep trying to copy Lee's epic moment from the game, and I feel like other shows just keep trying to copy what the first season of the game did better.

Ive watched the first epi twice now ... I understand even more than i did the first time and i didn't like Okafar in the first few considering the fact that he just wouldn't understand Rick at all but i started to understand more and more how indirectly and directly helping and saving Rick... I was just starting to love that new character development with him and rick and they killed him off 😭 .. smh wow

The area that Rick crashes in looks awfully similar to the open area Where we last Saw the World beyond cast.

Rick has been away from the group for 10 years he “died” at around 3.5 years in twd ended at 13.5 years in so yeah fyi Rick hasn’t seen his family in 10-10.5 years
