MPC Stems ... Who Gives A Sh*T?!?!

- Standalone or not, there are a ton of other options that don't really work that well yet either.... why pay for another? In this video I talk about why I think this is kind of pointless feature until the technology gets better... Serato, RIPX, and FL Studio all do this already and from what I can tell have similar results. Besides getting drums this is kind of gimmick until better results can be achieved through updated algorithms.
Why nobody see the bad sides on this: Basically you find the hottest sample in the world and make a beat out of it. Now I can just take your beat, use stem seperation and just replace the drums and upload it as my own beat and put some Content-ID on it?
Stem separation is the biggest revolution to electronic music since the sampler came out.
And I’ll be happy to embrace it on my MPC when the technology is better
@@RobViktum : I like the artifacts the same way vintage samplers don't replicate sound perfectly. Plus, by time you've added drums, other samples, and vocals, no one will know.
@@RobViktumit's standalone so it's a first... If you're getting such chronic artefacts on your stems you need to get you some good source material my boy
@@CreamOfBeatsexactly
Why not?
I don't want to touch my computer at all when using my MPC.
Man you tripping. To have this in a standalone machine is revolutionary. Bro said why? Why make this video is the question. Why did I watch this is another question lol.
The tech will never be there with current mixing trends.
The best separation can only happen when the stereo field is used fully like in 50's -70's music.
The issue is frequencies do not obey mixing law, mixing law obeys frequencies.
Can't separate it without loss one sound will have to give way due to digital recording being in bits.
It can get close and at some point ai will have to guestimate a sound then reduplicate it.
Look up, MALO BEATS and MPC Stems
They want you to stay in the Akai ecosystem. For travel and standalone, this is actually a good thing.
Definitely a fresh take on the stems feature.. A bunch of other UA-camrs I watch are stoked about it. Since I’ve not used any other software since like audacity to do this, I’m stoked to see how the tech has grown. Still I am wondering about the artifacts after pulling sounds as well.
Now maybe we get more songs where people build original compositions around samples again like back in the days instead of just reusing the same sample loop and add drums or flat out remaking older rap songs that already sampled something
I use Serato Studio and, I agree it can be hit or miss, but if they have a similar version that I can use straight from my X SE, I'm definitely gonna be happy. Love the content fam 🙏🏾✊🏾💚
everything you're saying is sweet but a lot of us that are excited for these features make music without a traditional computer as part of the chain
I've been using ripx and exporting onto the mpc pads. I'll probably cough up the 10 bucks for this as well. But I'm hoping the additional features on ripx make it at least feel like I didn't waste my money.
the fact that akai, numark, pioneer, alesis is the same group now
Im excited.. 20 years ago the closest I could get to stems was to hard pan vinyl from certain labels when sampling and then painstakingly filter/eq.. its amazing how far things have come for beatmakers today to have these tools that open a world of resources that are relatively affordable and at their fingertips.
but as with DJs who today utilise controllers/tools that autobeatmatch, it also means we are obliged to not get lazy and raise the bar by investing energy into elevating other aspects of the sound if we have technology doing the graft for us. I agree with the quality concern aspect of your argument as some stem extractions Ive heard sound very tainted, so I do expect a wave of muddy sounding remixes now stemming is set to become commonplace in production gear, despite it being primitive.
100% RealTalk Rob. I think there will be a rude awakening in March. Stems have been around for a long time but Akai's version is supposed to be the game changer?! come on...
Akai should worry about making the converters better. The free stem separater online works better then all of them.
People need to learn How to make their own music from Scratch. It’s The safety way to make music to be safe.
Sampled music go hard though, so many hits made from samples still going
💯 stem separation is way more mid than the hype. But some people DO fuck with the MPC software so for them it is a new tool they will use.
I wish they would greatly improve audio warping, timestretch, and pitchshifting.
And yeah, I'm not gonna buy it until it's standalone.
Dang debbie downer😂😂😂😂 i use moises on my laptop to separate tracks so i'm hype about adding mpc stems to standalone.
This will affect sample pack creators from charging more for the " stem " version of the sample pack.
Hahaha sorry, I just want better for us all
Yes agree, shit sounds phased.
because everyone has been requesting this feature for 2 years now but they wont sound better then serato or virtual dj and thats one because its a dj software but only sounds good through analog gear from experience
I see your point, brother. All it's going to do is clean up the sound a little. Maybe give us the ability to work with stuff we weren't able to do before. Artifacts...
I agree. The concept is cool but the sound quality is just not there. As you mentioned an acappella is fine but once you start subtracting other elements, that muffled sound throws it off. Hopefully it improves as time goes on but truthfully I think the average producer nowadays are more focused on features instead of sound.
I agree with you 1000% only certain things sound good . The only things that sound good is songs that don’t have a lot of instruments
There is no percentage greater than 100.
Great video! Akai is late on offering stems. They were behind the curb on this.
Why? Because I hate making music on a computer. That’s why!
limitations drive creativity.
I don't use my computer, if I did then I probably would build my setup around computer and controllers.
Depends how you use it bud…
Indeed the better the source the better the results and the answer to the why is it will just be a dope feature to have in a standalone unit. The technology is fine and has come a long way already you just can't expect it to be as good as stems/tracks straight out a 70's studio.
I'm always able to come away with something using separations but I understand the limitations. It's never gonna be a perfect solution so with anything else hip-hop you have to be creative and work around those limitations. I've definitely put together joints I wouldn't have been able to pull off without the technology so it's just another tool in the box for me.
I'm more of a micro chopper also so I'm never using long parts that could noticeably expose the artifacts you speak of and with the use of clever effects processing you can make ish work.
Hey Rob, I appreciate your view on this as a profesional but for beginners like me, this is a good and cheap tool to get more stuff to try, even if the technology is not "there yet" in terms of quality. Do you think it's not useful even for people starting making beats and stuff?
What I’m trying to say is we deserve better. The technology is just not there yet
they just brought in moog couple of months ago
agree ...
Those artifacts in all these similar programs really do suck. I wish it would be a clean rip. Maybe 5 years or so it would be perfected.
fact. Even the best one rip x is phasey with melodics.
"Who Gives A Sh*T?!?!" lmao!!!!!!
Great video sir !!
Do you feel there’s a sonic difference between standalone mode and software mode?
I think so…. Some will disagree
Do you prefer standalone mode as it hits harder?
Thanks again for your time reading and reacting to comments 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙌🏼
@@MullazllaI think it does. I have more control of what’s going into the DAW…. I can add things to mix before it goes into the computer….
It’s so asinine for you to complain about something that’s not even out yet on standalone. Just dumb…. And you complain about something that’s not even out when the sound itself is shitty on the modern MPCs…
facts!
Another tool in the shed, not sure why you're complaining, you don't have to use it.
Why??? Because I don't have and don't want those other programs on my computer bud.
i think its a good idea
You hit the nail right on the head!
Interesting take. Can you explain the stand alone thing? So this is only available on the PC version?
Will be available for the software version first then the standalone will come later. Usually couple months apart.
Bout time someone said this....the artifacts are awful. All the beat maker "influencers" I follow are all gaga about it but it seems like they are selling a product. The audio in every video has so many artifacts and they try to play it off like it doesnt. Get your money, I get it, but it needs to be better
must use mono for good sound sorry
Just enjoy making music.
this dude is really asking "Why" about a stem separator.
Video is over.
a $10 stem separator at that.
I think they're all using the same tech because they all sound the same (artifacts).
[Old person voice] Use of stem-splitting technology just seems like cheating and contrary to the spirit of beat digging and sampling. Also, all this used to be fields....far as the eye could see...then you no-good kids ruined my lawn with your godless skiffle music.... But seriously. Might as well use sample libraries or session musicians. RIP the art of sampling.
becuase we dont use the software you listed. Why are you crying about some shit you havent even used yet?
I have to say
They def smear the audio
Wack artifacts on all stem separation tools. The question is who will be the first to upgrade their algorithm finally getting rid of most of that lame sound…Hope serato does it first, to finally put an end to all this hype. I heard Native Instruments is working on stems supposedly, and it will be out in 10 years….😂 that fucking company is trash
meaning all the stems are trash
The real question is why you make this video. Your going to buy it and your going to use it
