She was brilliant her entire life, her entire career. The world was blessed by her amazing performances. These 7 and a half minutes brought me great joy and sorrow. Thank you Dame Maggie Smith. You made the world a better place.
She was absolutely lovely when she was younger. Not only that but she is incredibly talented. I believe she is one of those rare people (like Meryl Streep) who can play just about any role/any character. Just amazing!
Do yourselves a favour and watch: Tea With The Dames. It is a documentary with four of the great dames of English theater: Judi Dench, Eileen Atkins, Joan Plowright and Maggie Smith as they recall their careers with various companies & co-stars ... it is hilarious
She’s honestly at Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis level of greatness, with one of the best bodies of work of any actress ever. We’ve totally taken her for granted, I think we all just assumed she’d always be there 😭 I hope she never stops working. We’re lucky to still have her honestly.
Actually the "taken for granted" was intended by Maggie Smith herself. Maggie has always been private and been very reserved. She valued her anonymity because it meant to could go anywhere she wanted anytime she wanted. That was her gripe about Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. She said the fame totally changed her private life to the point where she couldn't go anywhere. Plus her first husband was also an actor and she said on more than one occasion that two theater actors should never marry because they would never have any life outside of the theater. Its that humility and reserve that has made Maggie so endeared over the decades. I love her reserve. She is a very succinct women..she says very little but what she says...its like each word is carefully chosen as if being written on a script. Oh, how I wish that I had that talent.
My hero is Kenneth Williams, his diaries are my bibles. He regarded everyone he knew with a curious mix of love and contempt and he oscillated between loving and loathing his peers in equal measure. The only person he had unquestionable love for was 'Mags', he didn't just adore her but remained forever spellbound by her talent. I remember him talking of weeping after watching one of her performances it had such a profound effect upon him. Those that liken her to Streep diminish her. There is only one Maggie Smith, unrivalled and unsurpassed.
Maybe the best star tribute video I've ever seen! Maggie Smith is my most favorite actress, and this video reminded me of why I love her and her films so very much. Thank you!
BRILLIANT! I had the Distinct Pleasure of seeing her on Broadway in Lettice and Lovage circa 1990 and she was so hysterical and brilliant. She’s an icon
Whereas I had the distinct pleasure of seeing her on Stratford, Ontario for a 3-yr engagement performing various Shakespearan comedies & dramas ... what a thrill to watch her timing & delivery especially on comedies, yet deliver the poignancy of a drama. She remains my favourite actress for the past 50 yrs
I saw her back in the early 1970s in the West End of London in Private Lives and she was unforgettable, as always. I adored her in films, in both comic and serious roles, and the last time I saw her in the theatre was in Lettuce and Lovage. There simply wasn't anyone else like her and thank goodness she made films which people will be able to watch far into the future.
Ahhh beautiful Maggie, such caress, class, cunning, all of her roles and movies have been fantastic, I love this woman. And shes still doing movies too! Go on Maggie! Much love and appreciation
She made that show. The other actors are all wonderfully good in their own regard some of them certainly esteemed, but without her that show wouldn't have gotten a third of the ratings it did. Her character wasn't even that large, it's just how delicious and thrilling she was when you did see her.
Amazing! I'm old enough to remember Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (and "Travels with my Aunt", in which she does a Maggie Smith impersonation), so I haven't just experienced Maggie Smith as the eternal dowager, but to see her range - she is quite the chameleon, a kind of character actor but also a lead. Very much in the British tradition. The comparison to Meryl Streep is apt, but Ms Smith has a warmth that Streep lacks. A great lady and a great actor.
I'm so used to her in DOWNTON ABBEY I had to go back and look at scenes when she was young to remember what she looked and sounded like. She's always been brilliant!
All her performances are great but I am partial to Jean Brodie! This was a tour de force and I feel was easily in top five of superb performances of all time!!
Had I not made the video (lol) I would be here for the same reason. I feel like I don't need to watch Maggie clips because they are deep in my brain and in my heart. Thanks for watching!
I am not too familiair with her films..Just watched some clips for the first time... Maggie Smith is so diverse, so strong, so funny, so warm, so real , iow such a wonderful actress whom I admire enormously . Lately I am watching DA...without her the show would not have been possible. What a treasure she is.
Every body comparing Maggie Smith with mediocre Hollywood actresses… it like comparing lord Olivier with Buster Keaton…. Maggie is unique, one of a kind, a Brit extraordinaire, a wind in the willow, a tempest in the sea… she is everybody’s favourite aunt…🙂
Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Meryl Streep, Maggie Smith and Glenn Close... (not in order: they cannot be compare one another) the greatest actresses have ever walked on this planet...
There's some truly great films here, so it's a bit silly to pick just the one, but Keeping Mum is probably the most under rated of them all. The type of film only the British could make, reminded me of the old Ealing days.
brilliant, not one of them a dud......i love the character Maggie played in "Go to Blazes" with Coral Browne, a wonderful couple of con artists, and of course Daphne in "Evil under the Sun".....bitchy lines delivered with such class.......
+Thom C Thanks! I agree she is SO amazing. The first song is a version of "Jean", which was written for the movie "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie". This version is by Claudio Casanova And His Orchestra from the album All The Way.
Thanks for watching! I can see how you might think she is intimidating. I thought so when I was a kid, but then I learned more about her. I think she's actually a very sweet person who can seem intimidating because she is shy. :)
I was just wondering how you were able to get a clip of "better late than never"? I can't find this movie for the life of me and I've always wanted to watch it!
She was brilliant her entire life, her entire career. The world was blessed by her amazing performances. These 7 and a half minutes brought me great joy and sorrow. Thank you Dame Maggie Smith. You made the world a better place.
Thanks for watching. I'm in shock.
Absolute legend. I hope she rests in peace after her amazing work here.
She'll be dearly missed. Thank you Dame Maggie Smith for everything ❤
Omg... 😢 What a sad day 😢 rest in peace, Dame Maggie Smith
Yes. Very sad.
She was absolutely lovely when she was younger. Not only that but she is incredibly talented. I believe she is one of those rare people (like Meryl Streep) who can play just about any role/any character. Just amazing!
Thanks for watching! I think she is still absolutely lovely!!! :)
She still is!!! The best!!
myknittingblog Oh? Kinda similar to how the comment that you just made was unnecessary? 🙄
She was lovely her entire life.
RIP Dame Maggie Smith…🫡🫡🫡

Oh, please ... they could only aspire to reach the level of Maggie Smith's talent
@@CrrrashnnBurrrn I totally agree.
THE best actress of her age. Her son is fantastic and also varied in every different role also
Thanks for everything Maggie, you'll be sorely missed❤Sad news, but she lived a long and fulfilled life, so don't be too sad.
Dame Maggie... always brillant

I’m honestly going to shed a tear when she passes away...😞
Oh please don't even think that way. Thanks for watching! :)
OY whats wrong with you! she is alive and kicking and the best - there will be enough time when the time comes!!
Harvard University please don’t bury her yet!
Now she passed away... I was in the bus when I heard yesterday... I cried... I was not able to keep my tears... And i'm not able now....
she passed away😢😢😢
'Oh that's tacky, really tacky' reduces me to a quivering jelly of laughter....

excellent editing! tears in my eyes.
Thank you! :)
Finally watched Downton Abbey. She was the best part indeed! Had to look her up. Thanks for snap shot of such a talent.
She made that show. The other actors are all wonderfully good in their own regard some of them certainly esteemed, but without her that show wouldn't have gotten a third of the ratings it did. Her character wasn't even that large, it's just how delicious and thrilling she was when you did see her.
Thank you for taking the time to create this tribute to Dame Maggie Smith. I am just discovering her incredible performances on film. Gracias!
vistaestrada You don't have to thank me. I adore Dame Maggie. I have so enjoyed making my tributes to her! :)
She is a treasure to theatre and film 💖💖💖
Isn’t she just so incredibly marvelous? Never get enough her talent. Looking forward to Downton Abbey the movie later this year!

cards0486 then you MUST see “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie “! In my opinion, a classic!!
What an extraordinary, special, ridiculously talented woman.
One of the greatest British actresses and walked passed her in a busy London Street what a delight for a fan from South Africa.
All her performances are great but I am partial to Jean Brodie! This was a tour de force and I feel was easily in top five of superb performances of all time!!
She did win the Oscar for it, but she has so many other greats
Dame Maggie Smith's characters are always so recognizable
Maggie Smith
Sending respect today
Thanks for watching.

Legend
The music was from Brindisi and the vocal score was played in the film ‘Quartet’ when she starred with Billy Connolly
Some of it was the theme from "The Prime of---"
I didn't see Travels With My Aunt, but perhaps I missed it. I'm glad they didn't forget Hot Millions.
RIP ❤
Thanks for watching.
Haha "What do I care"
She rocks :D
How brilliant is that and that's not even all of them!
I'm glad you like it! :)
Her son Toby is also an incredible actor.
Hii cefaci
😣😣😣😣 maggie smith
Two of the themes were the "Brindisi" from "La Traviata" and the theme song from "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie."
Thanks for watching and noticing that! I'm so in shock about the news. :(
Watch her in The Millionaress. The play by George Bernard Shaw, adapted for TV drama, on utube. Class act.
Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Meryl Streep, Maggie Smith and Glenn Close... (not in order: they cannot be compare one another) the greatest actresses have ever walked on this planet...
Brilliantly ambivalent.

Who came here after hearing Dame Maggie's untimely passing? Rest in peace and rest in power M'am, you'll be dearly missed and never being forgotten😢❤.
Thank you for watching. I'm so sad!
Awesome vídeo. Maggie Smith is a genius. By the way, what's the name of the first song and where is it from? It's beautiful, hehe. Cheers. :)
