That tree must be 300 plus years old, (beautiful) I never knew they diverted the river. What an amazing task that must have been. Thank you
The cut through project was the biggest undertaking besides the Panama canal so the sign said.
Thanks for the lovely educational tour. The best tour guides ever. 😉
Our pleasure!
Yet another great job. I continue to learn cool things from your videos ❤❤❤❤.
Thank you for covering this story with the actual location to the biggest feud in America 's history. Great job 👍
Thank you too!
I have developed a true understanding and deep interest in the whole family history of both sides of this famous feud, ever since the mini series was televised..
There used to be a small museum at Renfro Valley, Kentucky, run by a young married couple , one from each family....they gave me an even deeper understanding of both sides. I hate that it was moved, because I may never be able to actually get to go touring of the 2 state areas where it all started..thank YOU for your videos and insights.
Awesome video! Loved looking at those beautiful old homes and beautiful town!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video very educational 🙏
Thanks. I've followed the feud for years but didn't know this house still existed. Devil Anse didn't lose any children in the feud but poor ole Randall lost several. I can see why he grew bitter. Thanks again! New Subscriber!
Thank you for joining!
No children but he lost his brother and Uncle Jack. His nephew Cotton Top was hanged even tho he wasn’t guilty of killing McCoy daughter.
I really enjoy the videos you post ty
Thanks 🙏
Great video today. It's amazing that back in that time they would photograph the bodies in their coffin. I remember seeing in previous videos of Devil Anse and another. Looking forward your next adventure!
It is odd now, not something we do anymore, and thank you!
@@thehillbillyfiles My late husband's family are from Nicholas County, WV. I've been to some funerals of his Great Aunts and Uncles and older family members. They took pictures of them in their casket.
@@thehillbillyfiles Yup people still take pics nowadays of people in coffins. My father's cousin did and my close friends aunt died and people took pics of her.
My Mom’s family from Paducah, KY still photograph the bodies in the coffin. They are all in mid 70’s to 80’s and are dying off. I think that will die with them
Thanks for showing our family history! My 4th Great Grandpa is William McCoy who is the Brother of Randolph McCoy
Thanks for the video. I was very impressed with how groomed and pretty Pikeville is.
It is very pretty there
Rest in peace guys, you are not forgotten.
I hope the Lord JESUS blesses you and your wife thoroughly, you all do such great videos that a simple man like me likes to watch.
Thank you! means a lot
Great video of these beautiful historical sites! Thank you ☺
Our pleasure!
Wow amazing story. Thanks.
Thanks for listening
I just subscribed to your channel. I've always been a fan of the Hatfield McCoy feud. Always loved the history. RIP to all involved and who were murdered.
Randall and Sarah McCoy were hard working, honest people who did not murder or steal.
West Virginia is my favorite state even though I live in a historic area of Pa!!
Heathers family is from Lancaster, we hope to get out there in fall for some videos
@@thehillbillyfiles I’m not that far out. I’m in Uniontown, Fayette county. Just 50 miles south of Pittsburgh. I’m 20 minutes from Morgantown
Hillbilly files videos Saturday and Sunday evening. A perfect weekend!
Thanks Bill! Your awesome
I just want to thank y'all this is my new favorite channel for can't stop watching
Thanks! We appreciate that.
Judging by the size of the new grave marker and the placement of the original markers, that iron fence sits on top of, not around, Randall McCoy's grave.
I believe your right
Recently found your channel and have watched many of your videos. Just subscribed.
Ya'll are doing a great job. I know what you're doing, ain't that easy.
It is amazing what and how ya'll find all the graves and markers. we have some of the same issues in central Texas with the old cemeteries , just rocks on a lot of them. It's just me, and my quirks, but I hate walking on a grave. Guess it goes back to preteen days, and going to some old family plots and old cemeteries. But just like you said. You have to be very careful walking on collapsed grave site. Had one collapse , didn't step in, but I was very careful after that. My grandmother laughed and asked what I'd do if I had fallen in, I just said nothing except lay there, cause I would've died right there.
Thank you guys gor what ya'll do. It's a real shame that any of that had to happen. Just think of the lives ruined because of it.
God bless you guys and have a blessed day.
How cool would it be to live in one of those houses? But they are haunted I’m sure. Great video, thank you!
They are haunted actually lol 😅
Heather, did you ghost hunt there?
I did! In the York house
@@thehillbillyfiles That's cool. I'd love to hear about that!
@@thehillbillyfiles lets do it again in both places and document it for our family and us!
Wonderful story.
I from here lived all around this my life Y’all pronounce everything wrong though 😂 grew up were the battle Grapevine was love y’all for doing this
Haha, I may say stuff wrong ( Heather) I'm not from here, but Leo's family been here since they settled in Phelps through the Dotson's, long long time ago lol, he was born in the old Williamson hospital
@@thehillbillyfiles I’m kin to the Dotsons I no the hospital well you may have been gone your still family I love these please keep on do these Lot of family and phelps I’m just joking with y’all I work in Georgetown Kentucky we get road pretty hard here the way we talk in good fun had 20 years in coal mine at Toyota building car
There were 13 McCoy children. Those 2 were busy.
I can’t believe he had 17 kids with his first cousin. That blows my mind
Rabbits
At least I will give old Randall McCoy credit, There a family story that floats around in Glasgow Kentucky, that the notorious Confederate bushwacker Harland Sanders and his brothers went and talked to Randall about him putting up bounties on Hatfield's but from what I understand Randall politely declined his offer, and what I understand from the family history Harlan was killed about a year later in a fight at a church called The Battle of Cherry springs, apparently two moonshine family,s decided to settle their differences after church services, resulting in at least four dead and several fatally wounded that died later on, another small chapter in the fusion wars around cave City and Glasgow Kentucky,
Very interesting
Glad you think so!
I’ve always wondered what Devil Anse & Randall McCoy would think about the History Channel movie/doc with Kevin Costner. As well as the other major players like Cap, Johnse, etc.
Im sure they would be blown away at all the attention
Another enjoyable & interesting video. How did Randall get burned? I have been through West Virginia but haven't visited. Hopefully someday I will get there.
He fell into his cooking stove somehow
@@thehillbillyfiles 😳 yikes that would hurt
I am a proud member of the McCoy family on my grandma's side. I was born and raised in the hills of Kentucky. I've been on both sides of the Tug many times. I think it's fair to say that The McCoy's lost more in that feud then the Hatfield's did. Devil got away with murder only God knows how many times. He took what he wanted without getting into any trouble. The only man brave enough or crazy enough to even try to catch him was Bad Frank. But Devil never paid for what he did in his lifetime. Randall on the other hand paid and then some. Devil got to pass away in his sleep while Randall burned to death. Devil could have stopped that feud at anytime. But he wanted more McCoy blood. I hope my kin have finally found peace.
yes dear, I'm from Pikeville, and yes they have all come to their senses and laugh about it now in most cases. They may not be CLOSE friends, but at least they finally stopped killing one another. and, YES, it started over a hog. and it went from there.. I must say that my little town is a great place to live, just like anywhere else, you gotta know where to go, and where NOT to go. Did you all ALSO know that the ONLY FBI agent convicted of murder was in Pikeville.? Look it up,,,there's so much more I could tell you that the photos can't explain,
My Mother's entire family is from Pike county and we're related to the McCoys and you're 100% right. Money and power puts you above the law unfortunately.
Interesting history. I subbed
Thanks for the sub!
After watching the Movie with Cosner and all the research I fill the Hatfields were mostly at fault. Although the incident were the McCoy's stab his brother to death really gets under my skin
I'm in Texas but my mom's family is in Floyd county KY. My uncle was telling me many yrs ago that the Hatfield, McCoy fued wasn't the only fued. There were at least 2 more
Great tour today. Is there a sign inside the restaurant, that shows where Randolph was burned 🔥?
Thank you. 😊
Not that I'm a aware of, but maybe I never noticed it
@@thehillbillyfiles Just curious. Thank you very much for getting back to me.
Now in the “movie” supposedly Perry Cline was. In love with Rosanne McCoy, Was that true?
So very sad all to become famous after your death. He lost a lot but gained back the wealth of notarized values thank you
Very true, thanks 🙏
Those men lived their entire lives like kings almost, here in America. In Europe during the entire life span of Randall McCoy and Hatfield, there were Kings, Kaisers, princes, and emperors, and other Royals and people with titles. I suppose that those European aristocrats wouldn't have thought very much about Hatfield or McCoy.
Can you recommend any books on the McCoy and Hatfield that is close to being the truth
The father of 2 of my boys is a McCoy...he looked so much like Randall..they still got that nose ..lol
And he and his brothers and half brothers were very tall
Randall was 6 foot Devil anse was shorter, something people don't know normally. Thats pretty neat he looks like Randall
Why does the death year for Sarah McCoy say 189-? Do we not know exactly what year she died?
They couldn't tell her death year from her stone, and her death certificate can't be found.
You two do a good job...I’m a ol Buchanan co. Va. hillbilly and can be in pike co. in a 15 minutes drive from where i live at ,close to Breaks Interstate Park, and have been through those parts of pikeville quite a few times...
What is Heather's Channel i like to see some of her stuff
🎉Very intresting, But I thought Randall McCoy died in hous fire
He died from injuries he got in a house fire. Not in the fire itself.
What was Randals cause of death? I could see it on the certificate
Burns from a fall into cooking stove
I am related to Randolph McCoy
Nice video
Thanks
So the house didn't burn down where Randal received his fatal burns ??
No he died much later after the fire , this was falling in a cooking stove
Ok because again the History Channel lied about it they had it where he was throwing family photos in the fireplace and caught himself on fire. Thanks for the facts.
When you talking about “down that way and it went that way” I have a hard time following your train of thought without you pointing it out….any way you can get your finger in the video and point to where your talking about? I think your telling such a great story…..we could use a few finger pointers….please??!!
I usually do but we had a new GoPro that had a dark screen, I couldn't see to point,so we have worked that kink it now, thank you for watching
I trace back to a Hatfield 🌹
Awesome
I was wondering if the Graves were dug by family and friends? Who decides where to put him.
Every cemetery is different. I don't have any way of knowing really, sorry
I would say so. I can tell you for sure that family cemeteries even now, the family always help in preparing the grave in some way, especially in cemeteries that are up on hillsides that make it extremely difficult for equipment to be brought up to do the digging. Just a few years ago when my uncle passed, he was buried in the family cemetery (where Randall McCoy's nice, my great great grandmother, Vicie Roberts Ratliff, daughter of Mary Etta McCoy Roberts is also buried)...the family chose his burial plot and helped with burial and covering the grave. That cemetery is at Draffin, Ky
Very first few seconds of the video is Kentucky cash crop.
Did anyone go to jail for murder and arson?😊😊
Yes
I was born in Pikeville, Kentucky
