    statues that glorify white supremacy. A statue of Confederate leader Jefferson Davis was torn down in Virginia. Davis served as president of the Confederacy during the Civil War, defending states’ rights to own and enslave human beings.

      @@cupcakemcsparklebutt9051 Except you're mostly wrong. The vast majority of confederate statues were erected from the beginning to middle of the 20th century during Jim Crow laws as a way to keep black people in their place after the reconstruction era where black rights were finally expanding for a change. They're the embodiment of "glorifying racism".

      The statues should be in a Museum they aren't apart of the UNITED States history. They are apart of the confederate states which no longer exist these leaders don't deserve to be respected they wanted to separate from the United States therefore are not part of the United States history. America history yes, which is why they should be in a Museum not a monument to celebrate. At least that's my point a view but everyone is entitled to their opinion. 🤷🏽‍♀️

      Besides...Apparently it's not necessary to have to physically be in the presence of something to believe in it's teachings so there's that.

      @Coelophysis People have always protested, and yes, broken the law when it was because the law itself was either wrong or protecting the wrongful act. To say "well you should always follow the law anyways" is sort of ignorant towards history. Would you have been one of those people back in the days of slavery going "guys... i know you dont like it, but it's illegal to hide a runaway slave from her master. Giver her back guys, dont be breaking the law".
      Or more recent look towards the American civil rights movement. TONS of laws broken there because the law itself was either racist or protected racist actions. Im sorry, but just saying "you should always follow the law" doesnt work. Part of democracy _IS_ protesting. And sometimes in protests property gets damaged. Again, look to the American civil rights movement.

      Im a white man and im not terrified, im over the top HAPPY AND EXCITED that these terrible monuments are being torn down. I fought side by side with AMERICANS not white people and black people, athiests or christians. My country is of all races and religions. This is a huge step forward. Now i say replace them with monuments to the GREAT leaders of color who shaped this path and helped hold this country up for so many decades!

I would be glad to see every one of those hateful things pulled down and smashed. Nothing says white supremacy like slavery and nothing says slavery like the Confederacy. To keep slavery is the reason why the rich southerners created the Confederacy.

      @@CogitoErgoSumFortis I these people in the video are enjoying the fruits of privelege these confederate figures brought for them economically. • @CogitoErgoSumFortis
      @CogitoErgoSumFortis 4 роки тому +2

      @@cupcakemcsparklebutt9051 as a matter of fact, actually no. The confederate men being 'honored' in those statues were fighting to keep those protesters as *property* that is to say, without them being able to own anything, not even their own life. It doesn't matter when were those symbols stablished, if those symbols represent something no longer acceptable in our times: they are brought down. There's a reason you don't see any swastikas in any German buildings today. And to the history they represent, that's why I'm saying museum, and not the trash. Putting them in a place to learn history is as good an outcome you can get for symbols as heinous as those, because maybe in their shame and display they may redeem their own figures by serving as reminders of the mistakes in conceptions made by those very ancestors. Trust me, I know about this. The Mondragon bit of my name comes from the same family of the man who invented the Mondragon rifle and cannon, the general who invented those was quite a controversial figure. But I recognize where he went wrong, I see the impacts of his actions, the mistakes in his conceptions and world views, I understand and accept the villainous role he holds in the eyes of history. And in learning from his mistakes I become a better person.
