Always stay out until quitin time. Honestly the best advice ever. Even if you don't get a bird, you'll learn something.
Snacks drinks comfy chair stay all day
I think this is the best advice for turkey especially. New to turkey hunting so I'm trying to learn ,at my age seems a little harder 😅 but the truth is I stay all-day deer hunting most of the time. I seem to.learn about all the animals even if I don't see a deer.
@@michaelmelvin3263 good luck this season
Even though there are so many different hunting "experts" on the internet nowadays, there is something about your delivery that instills confidence. Despite all the research and videos I've watched I feel like you're the one to listen to. In other words, whatever you tell me, I'm gonna do! Lol
lol same here! His advice absolutely works though
9:20am to noon has been my favorite time, especially later in the season.
I have to go back to work to get some rest
Them golden hours is when I got my last two birds one at around 11 other around 10ish. Patience patience patience if I go out super early I got my pack with enough water and food and even a poncho liner lay down and take a little snooze. It's a beautiful thing walking out in may 70deg sunny with a bird slung over your shoulder. Thankyou one again for the video and motivation.
Hey Dale, Being lucky enough to have formerly lived in a Turkey area....I would wait until at least 9 am to start to hunt. I waited all year for Turkey season and didn't want to have it end the first day. And, I never found going out later in the day to be an issue. Killing turkeys, especially after 10 am has never been an issue and a lot of FUN!!!
Most birds I’ve killed have been between 9-12 without a doubt. I love it.
I hunt with a 75 year old Vietnam veteran. He has told me many times that he won't go after them until 9.
i have been hunting turkeys for 50 years i am 65 now shot gobbler last friday in wi watch your show and always pick up a little something you keep it real ps got my bird 10:30 in the rain
T'hanks Matt, it's been rough season so far, your encauraging wards are appreciated.
Me and a buddy of mine doubled Monday at 2:00pm. Those turkeys gobbled their heads off.
Years of my Bird chasing, except for 2 gobbler’s early morning, all of my other gobblers hunted were from 10-12:30. Just couple days ago one of my hunting partner harvested his 22lb gobblers @ 1:30 pm. Last season I called one from 300 yards. I heard one gobbling, I called him and within 5 minutes he was only 100 yards away, wanted to stay there, but I gave couple click and purr and shut up , within 10 minutes, he was in my game bag 😅
10 to 2 was always my favorite time in years past. These days there is so much people activity during this time on CA public lands, it doesn't hunt like it used to. Hard dealing with hoards of people walking , riding bikes, hiking..........
I've killed a lot of turkeys right off the roost but you're absolutely right 10 to 2 o'clock is prime time
I have been turkey hunting for over 50 years, so I know what I'm saying and you our so right with what you're saying in this Vido
Best Turkey Hinting Info on The Internet.
Info is right!! For the beginners...Stay out!!! Kool shot!!!🦃
Thanks for all the videos! Because of you I had an unforgettable 1st day of hunting!
Stay out later into the morning get back in timber, get up on a point or on a ridge or logging road to strike up a gobbler - got it! Super advice Dale. I understand more now as to why the majority of the mature gobblers I've harvested happened late morning or afternoon. I've found that a lot of times the jakes and younger Tom's lower in the pecking order can be easier to call in during early morning hours. This is simply because either the mature boss gobbler is henned up possibly after spurring, wing slapping and pecking at some of the subordinate gobblers - like the jakes and not interested in your calls just yet. It all makes much more sense now.
Quit tellin-em Dale, let-em stay home.
I always hunt from about 9:00 til 2:00 because I live about an hour from my hunting grounds. That means I dont know where they roosted the night before and I dont want them to bust me coming in at first light. I learned that lesson from experience many years ago.
I really appreciate the knowledge that you share. I have yet to kill a turkey, but I am a turkey hunter, but want to become a turkey killer. I'm always learning however. Thanks in part to you passing down your knowledge
Matt, you have mentioned it in another video. You didn't devote the whole video to late day hunting, just mentioned it. Ever since I stay till 1400 just to be sure I don't miss something! Lol. Thanks for the advice! Blessings.
You're darn right!!! Matt thanks got about 10 days and it's game time in PA
Man I've def come to love those hrs uve mentioned and especially the afternoons...
Great advice I stay out till noon or later as much as possible. I also like to use my time to hunt my way back to the truck. On the public grounds I hunt a lot guys will go out and sit in the woods for hours. Then when they've had enough they pack up and stroll to the truck without paying attention. It's like they stop hunting and now they just take there gun for a walk. Often times I cant hunt past noon due to family obligations but I pack up at 11 or even 1030 to hunt my way back, killed a lot of birds doing that right in the golden hours when birds are getting active.
Agree. My buddy has killed last 2 after 10a.m. And i like to sleep in! Lol
Thanks for the video !!! That 5.0 is looking good !!!
You are right Matt, very great advice. My favorite time frame is 9 to quit time.
Dale your advice has been great for me! 3rd season turkey hunting and I killed my 5th turkey on easter weekend. I appreciate it.
Great job
Thank you sir
Out west, most veteran hunters prefer to target the “10-2” timeframe. I killed my first California Rio this way, and my PB turkey several years later around 11, but I have called in several birds, including an Idaho Merriams for a friend, during this timeframe. I’ve called them up later in the afternoon, too, by being near a roost area in the early or late season. When they are really henned up mid season 10 am or so is the “Magic” time, at least in CA and ID.
Helped a lot think that’s my biggest problem never getting anything to talk after the morning fire up!
I liked that ten to two huntin here in Tennessee
Facts when I get worn out I sleep in n mostly always kill a late season bird between 9 and 12
Patients 🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃
My best time has been mid-morning to early afternoon...
most of my kills have been in the morning before 9:00am. I have killed only one turkey in the mid day hours. For me after fly down and before 9;00am has been the best in my area of Wisconsin.
That’s exactly right. I’ve killed several mid morning. But this morning he gobbled at around 10:30. So I walked up over the hill on my neighbor that I got permission on and he was in other neighbor pasture I don’t have permission on and he turn went other way when I called to him. He was by hisself. I’m gonna give him some more time. I’m thinkin Late season be better
Its like the first and last hr of bow hunting

I've got my Ol' Sly box call and mouth call, along with the Ghost cut as you recommended in a previous videos comments and they sound great!
Haven't got the chance to get after these southern MO gobblers but I will soon enough!
Thanks for all the great information you share Mr. Dale 👍👍
I live about a hr south of st Louis. There giving us a heck of a time. So far me and all the people I know have pretty much been hunting sign with the occasional gobble at random.
@@jamesparker7499 I got my first morning in today, hunted all the way til noon. Never heard a single gobble and I know they're in there.
Was lucky enough to meet a guy in the national forest that was cruising access roads after his hunt, and he was kind enough to tell me exactly where he heard a gobble at around 11 o'clock.
Said he hunted a different piece and hoped I get that bird, it's in a spot I hunted last year and got close but overcalled and made the gobbler shy away.
I'm going in there in the morning with buddy, wish us luck!
I hope it turns around for you too and you put the hammer down on one!
@@OzarkJubal Good luck man I hunted again until one never heard a whisper all kinds of sign, even feathers. Good luck man hopefully your cleaning that bird by now.
@@jamesparker7499 close but no cigar lol still got a couple weeks though
@@OzarkJubal yeah last year end of April early may they was gobbling there heads hope hoping for same this year.
Last Sunday I missed maybe my only shot we stayed till 10:30 went back in bout 2:30 an I walked in on a couple right where my blind was 😣😣
Hi dale your info is very helpful. I have 3 more days till the season starts here in PA.
Man that's nuts.! here in California, closing is comin up on may 1st already.. I did end up PUFFIN a gobbler that was a straight jedi!. We named him "Hook Strutwalker " Hey good luck out there!, I hope you drop a 4 year old dangler..
Well that's the youth day in PA the real season starts on the 30th
What's the best mouth call with dentures
Ive only gotten one early morning bird rest have been around 10:30-11:45
I see mostly sunrise to 11am might be my area
Can't kill anything sitting on the couch lol
The property I hunt is 100 acres. When the turkeys are in groups there will be one(usually a hen) that stays up in a tree and is the look out. Very challenging. Has anyone seen that? I haven't been able to find any info on that. We have had a coyote issue lately and wondered if that had something to do with it.
What kinda box call are you using?
So far nothing has worked for me, almost no talking after fly down. I just don't have patience to sit still for hours on end, especially when I hear no sounds.
Amen!! Some old timers I knew in MO wouldn’t even go out until 9.
Love to hunt with u
Ive hunted turkeys for 40 years and Id say a third if not mo
Ahhh fingers.Ive turkey hunted for 40 years and at least a third or maybe more of the nirds i have killed has been between 9 am till 2. I love mid day toms.
Ahhh fangers again not nirds but birds.
@@johnnyrussell8729 im just relieved you don't kill nerds, that'd be pretty messed up
Tommoro that's what ima say 10 11 12 1 0clock
Killed one Monday at 1030, I called 2 times and he came 150 yards in 10 minutes
killed my biggest gobbler ever at 11:oo after i went to breakfast
Roll Tide
I'm having an awful time this year. I like to hunt the woods 3x better than fields. The problem I have is boss hen always, always, always busts my ass. If i shut up she walks off, if i make her mad she gets in close enough that my cover is blown taking the gobbler away with her. Kills me. I see dozens of turkeys every year and it's the same story no matter the woods or farm I hunt. Its impossible to find that lone bird that's not a Jake. I hunt daylight til dark, cold call, hunt over signs, after 8AM they're gone but I sit anyway. That first hour of the day is all I've got to make anything happen. I call em in. They're there. 60 yards away gobbling like hell, here comes mama hen to f me over every time. People that like to turkey hunt are all about self torture.
Every turkey hunter ever feels your pain! The patience it takes is sometimes excruciating and they can be puzzling for sure. Im no expert (I've killed 30 now and helped call in more for my kids n friends), but I can try my best to help. If its the same group of birds you're after, they may just be wise to you for this season, so a no-call ambush in the right spot situation may work. But it sounds like you've got multiple options on birds too. Dale has also advised challenging a boss hen to get her gobbler in, but it sounds like you've gone down that road. What comes to mind is the possibility of trying to call less. And Dale has a great video on this that is directly responsible for helping me kill more birds ("when not to call" I think. Its about doing the minimum, and making him the aggressor. For me that means letting them know you're there and more or less shutting up for the most part afterwards. It makes a tom curious. And he'll remember right where you are, so as soon as his ladies leave him to go lay and he's alone... off he goes to look for that saucy hen he heard hours before. Dale explains in detail why to NOT respond to every gobble and such. So at the point I know he's responding to me I then cutt so he knows I'm excited too. Then as he keeps bellowing I respond maybe once to his 2 or 4 gobbles, usually just yelps maybe 1 more cutt. Then mostly just sit tight. I'll cluck every so often just to trigger him and alarm me if he was nearing, and also about every 30-45 minutes a single yelp sequence of 4-6 notes. Thats it. Can't tell you how many times I've screwed this up by packing up to set up elsewhere or get closer to his direction, and sure enough that tom was headed my way coming in quiet and I spook him off. All those times confirmed i was doing plenty of things right- except for the patience part. Best of luck to you- and unfortunately luck really is part of this and it will be forever out of your control! But check out ALL of Dale's videos if you havent, he's helped me more than anybody else.
