I’m looking forward to low light/night vision stuff too. That gear I’m finding is extremely expensive! It’s bad enough I just dropped $3500 to build a really good GPR, and once it’s done, then to drop $2k to take a 2-3 day rifle course to learn how to run everything. The night vision stuff is even more than that! This stuff gets expensive. It’s definitely a journey, not a destination…and I freaking LOVE it!

As the old adage states, “Fear the man that has one gun, for he knows how to use it…very well”. As others have stated, I sold off most of my “neat to have” collection except for one which is a M1 Tanker Garand in 7.62 / 308, I now concentrate on the “Sheep-Dog” stuff with plenty of spare parts for maintenance. Most of my stuff consists of the ubiquitous AR15 and Glock 22, both are the adult form of Tinker Toys.

Immigrant from a country that doesnt have 2A. When hurricane harvey hit us in TX, was when I finally convinced my mother to have a firearm in our home(she’s deathly afraid of em due to cultural differences and overall prejudice of civilians with guns are bad), when she called the sheriff if its safe to come back home(we evac’ed), sheriff asked if we had a gun, she says no, sheriff responds “then no.” Lol we came back eventually, got a cheap taurus pt111 g2. Got good with it, took care of it, got a concealed carry license, trained with it some more. Assembled my first AR from palmetto state armory, basic M4 setup with irons first, got good with it, learned how to properly take care of it. by this time ive done extensive studying on firearms on my own, talked to my local gunsmith, read books, yt, forums, had a church friend who’s a retired 75th Ranger who had really good insight on these stuff.
Focused my acquisition on functionality over “looks,” somehow still managed to somewhat not look shitty lol, got a full size pistol(m9 beretta), built an AR10(DPMS Pattern, bought parts over time), built a PC kit and belt setup.
Joined the Corps, learned a lot from senior marines who know what they need from their gear and use their own gear-something grunts really do care about a lot in my unit. Having training here with the gear that i wanna test out(as long as they’re in regs by gunner or whatnot) really does help out on funneling down what i wanna get.
Currently in the process of building an ar pistol geared more towards cqb(obvsly), truck/travel gun, switched to a glock 45 as my full size, looking into getting ceramic plates. Nothing too fancy on the build, just what i “need.”
Functionality over aesthetics all the time.

This is gonna be long but I promise it’s going somewhere, and hopefully I can get some input. I’m debating extremely shaving down my options to make emergency actions simpler, recoup some money, and cut down on clutter in the safe and having so many different ammo types. I’ve got all the things (300, GPR, SPR, 308, etc).
I know that we’ve had pounded In our heads that pistols are only to “shoot your way to a rifle”, but what if we thought about them differently? What if they were more of a primary weapon for CQB? Let me defend this.
Theyre obviously small, light, extremely maneuverable, usable with one hand, etc. But further, if you put on a gas mask, going to pistol is by far the best option. Yes you can get behind some optics with a mask on, but it takes a lot of work and discomfort.
Under night vision, it’s generally agreed upon that using the dot and a vampire light is the way to go, and I agree. By just switching to pistol under NODs, no need to worry about if your rifle optic can support NV settings or a high rise.
By using the pistol for those close quarter tasks, your rifle can remain tailored to harness its full power at distance, like with (and I know they’re unpopular right now but) an LPVO. I feel like just using a dot on rifles is leaving a lot on the table. You can keep a full powered white light and not compromise it with a vampire, and not add the weight & cost of a LAM which are all sub-par anyways.
All this being said, I’m about at the point I’m willing to let the rifle hang and go to pistol if I’m about to go inside a structure and get rid of my shorter barrel AR platforms. The 300 subsonic is the energy of a 45 ACP. The 5.56 is neutered when cut down. All the arguments of effectiveness are harder to accept when sacrificing that much velocity and the handgun will still get the job done.
It’s tempting to trim the fat and have only a bolt gun for long range, a GPR, a full size handgun, and a carry handgun.

Gents, all good points! BUT you glossed over a HUGE point. The fact that Military Experience, especially service in the Special Operations Community, is longer a prerequisite for proficiency with a Rifle or Pistol. That speaks volumes to Knowledge Transfer from 2001 to present day. Trainers like Paul Howe just being willing to train EVERYONE, forever changed the landscape. There was a time when the only places you could learn a “Four Point Draw” was at the Operator Training Course at Fort Bragg, or a watered down version at BUDs/SQT. The community has truly exploded, and just like any Truly Free Market; the Good Instructors Rise, and Bad Instructors Fall… Anyone remember “Range Time with Cory and Erika?”

Great channel guys! Just found your content a few days ago. Totally agree on topic! Less quantity with more quality is the way to go. Testing my kit as a civilial follows 3 steps. 1. Try it at home and in the backyard. Do some dry practice. 2. Test it on the range with some stress from the timer. 3. Proof it at nighttime, in the cold, in the wet, while you are tired. Maybe while hoghunting under nightvision.
And for the beginners out there. Start training with one pistol/rifle combo, master this combo to an acceptable degree, learn from your mistakes and buy new stuff as you're evolving. Then start the loop from the beginning.

this speaks to me as someone who has been buying non hunting guns the last 5 years. I have one compact pistol(p10c) one ccw carry(shield plus) and one full size(beretta 92) and one ssa for fun. Rifle wise I sold one of my two ars(that were cheap, kept one to lend to friends who go to the range with me) took a little loss and am now planning to buy more quality rifles. was funny enough looking at 11.6 and 16" 556 and then a 6.5 bolt gun lol....

Lots of people collecting cars dont know how to race similar to those collecting lots of guns and dont know how to shoot matches. Dont think one needs to focus on being trained up if they really only like collecting instead of actually shooting, Just different goals for different folks. Most folks are aa blend of both with people on the extremes have bugger noses toward each other haha.
I try to collect a ideal firearm for each caliber I end up collecting personally tho only really train on 556/9mm.

I'm make my shockwave into a SBS to make it a better weapon. And I have a 22LR for fun and small game hunting. And a .357 revolver sp101 thinking of selling my sp101.

Recommend, one small thing. I would sell the sp101 and invest in a slick plate carrier, meaning no Molle webbing or pouches, you can find some for 90-130. Then save up for some sapi plates. Stay away from ar500 if you can. Ceramics are worth the wait and saving up for. Then you can wear just a slick plate carrier or you can wear your chest rig overtop of your carrier and ditch one or the other if you need too

I purposely bought a firearm that shoots every major caliber of cartridge I could think of... 223/556, 762x39, 9mm, 10mm, 38/357, 45acp, 300 blackout, 762x51, 380, 22LR, 22 magnum even some wildcat cartridges like 458 Socom, 30-30, 45-70, 30-06, 224, 6mm arc, 7mm and my thinking is knowing each firearm and cartridge as if something catastrophic happens, you won't be able to go out to the store and find whatever ammunition you have.
You could bypass this by stocking up on your caliber(s) of choice. I have 5,000+ rounds of the major cartridges like 9mm, 223/556, 762x39 and 1,000+ of the ones I'm not shooting as much like 10mm, 357 and 300 blackout. Where I'm lacking in both training and ammo are the wildcat cartridges only because ammo is so expensive and hard to find. I still fire those weapons 2x a year at a min with 50+ round range sessions but I'm glad I have them and I know my way around them.
Am I as versed on them as my go to AR15s or side arm 9mms? No... but hey... my significant other has kinda understood the concept.

I agree everyone who owns a firearm should take it upon themselves to seeks training that gives them a basic level of understanding. However, if you're honest with yourself, seeking advanced training and collecting are one in the same in terms of civilian practicality.
Aside from basic courses, there is no practicality for civilians to attend advanced training schools. In the real world I can't think many scenarios where you would be existing your vehicle with a carbine and a plate carrier and engaging multiple targets. There's no real world scenario where you're engaging a target at 1,000 yards. I've attended multiple advanced training courses through my agency and will occasionally see civilians there. While I fully support anyone who seeks advanced training, you have to be realistic with the application. If you're going to pretend that there is a likelihood you're going to be in one of these scenarios, it's LARPing. Just like with collectors, you have to be honest with yourself that you're doing it for the fun of it. Some people will make the argument that if an apocalyptic scenario where to happen, this training is useful. While there is some truth to that, the reality is that you should also be learning tacmed, bushcraft and focusing on physical fitness.
Again, I fully support anyone that wants to attend advanced training, but please be realistic. That's just my two cents.

When it comes to recommending firearms . I'd be lying if I said I wasn't bias to certain extent . I'm for sure a buy once cry once type of guy . This doe not mean you need to buy or build the most expensive. It just buy or build the one you really want .
When it comes to 556N or 223W I personally think the Mini Recce is the best way to go . Something that is fast , accurate and Lightweight. Lastly it has to be super reliable .
Centurion CM4 , BCM ELW BFH , and IWI Zion AR15 Pistols is what I recommend the most . I also recommend Centurion CM4 or BCM ELW BFH Uppers with Aero Lowers .
For OPTICS I recommend Prisms or LPVO . Yeah Aimpoints and Eotechs are ridiculously reliable and durable . You just can't beat etched reticles..
Centurion CM4 12.5 AR Pistol with TR24 1-4 , Top Hat 509T , Cloid OWL and YHM T2 Turbo K with KURZ KIT is what my go too is..
I do think people get too caught up in what other people use and think they need the new whiz bang 3000 for them to shoot better . Don't know who quoted it but damn it's so true . The Indian will always be better than arrow .
When it comes to Handguns . Its has to be reliable . Glock , Shadow Systems , S&W and Sig is what I recommend the most . Plus I've had the most experience with them . I believe striker fired is the way too go . I think for the modern warfighter or civilian a hammer is no longer needed .
As for size of what handgun you should get or model . Get G19 sized / Compact and be done with it . G19 sized gun can be used for EDC , Duty or HD / SD . I'm not a fan of Sub Compact Handguns . Shadow Systems MR920 Combat Optics Ready or G19 G5 AOS are the 2 handguns I recommend the most.
I'm huge fan of MRDS on pistols .
Holoson 508T , 509T and 507C-X2-ACSS are all solid. Trijicon RMR Type 2 is probably still king of PISTOL mounted MRDS . For new MRDS shooter the 507C-X2-ACSS is the way to go for sure no questions asked ..
When it comes to white lights for Handguns or 556. Modlite , SF and Cloud are probably the best . Streamlight is the best less expensive option ..
I could keep going on and on and on but I think you get the point and this is just my 2 cents .

We agree. And that is pretty much what we talk about in episode 3, one Warrior one sword. At the end of the day everyone has a budget. If you want quality you just need to wait a little longer to save and then purchase quality versus settling for mediocre. And yea quality tools doesn’t make the user an asset. It just makes you a prize. Training at the end of the day and self investment is key. You do that enough then you will naturally want to find quality tools to hold up to your regimen. 🤘🏽

@@barrelandhatchet So I have super bad habit of looking at the title of the video and then commenting without watching the whole video . If I would of did that I would of known I was mirroring kinda of what you guys were saying. Next time I'll watch first lol..
I'm such a sucker for that damn Recce or Mini Recce . No way I could not go more than 14 minutes without saying Recce lol..
I would list my READY room rigs but it would be too long because I'm a guns and gear whore for sure . So I'd want to give every little detail . It would consist of LMT SPECWAR , MLR with MARS-L and KAC SR16 for sure . I would want 9mm , 556 and 6mm ARC. Between those 3 I could handle 800M and in for sure . I'd have D. WILSON do the MRP barrel Conversions ..
I've gotten to the point where I'd much rather have 2 rock solid 9mm , 556 and 6ARC VS having 10 basic rigs . Training at TACTICAL Response has taught me that for sure no doubt about it . I definitely wanna do more CQB Kill house type training . To me that's the most practical. I live in Harpers Ferry WV. So I'm right outside DMV area . I need to track down a place withing 500 Miles where I can do that type of training . I've dont SWAT style trading 10 years ago and loved it . I wish they would host that type of class again..

Luckily shooting is my day job. But it also depends on healthy goals. You don’t have to shoot at the range once a week l, maybe all you can afford time for is once a month, but you can dry fire at home, go to classes a couple times a year and when you plan for your range day when you have it, it’s very productive!
