  • Rob, from T1G, takes us through conducting an Immediate Action Drill for different pistol malfunctions. Speed Saves Lives: The faster you can clear that malfunction and get that puppy back in the fight may mean the difference between life or death. We are big believers in the KISS principle, and try to teach students as few steps as possible. That allows you to develop proper muscle memory in a shorter period of time.
    Tap Rack. That’s all there is to it. 99.9% of all pistol malfunctions can be cleared by simply tapping the bottom of the magazine (to ensure it is properly seated in the magazine well) and racking the slide (to place a new round in the chamber).
    Bad Ammo: Tap Rack (It ejects the bad cartridge and replaces it with a new one)
    Magazine not fully seated (common after Tac Reloads): Tap Rack (properly seats the mag)
    Slide Not fully Closed: Tap Rack (a good slingshot of the slide will fully seat it)
    Stove Pipe: Tap Rack (removes the spent shell and racks a fresh round into the chamber)
    Empty Gun, but Slide went forward: Tap Rack (the Slide will lock to the Rear and the shooter will then know for sure that he needs to do a reload)
    When in Doubt: Tap Rack.
    Strength and Honor

    Idk what exactly is the background of both individuals in the video, i understand that they may be at a point where they are comfortable and trust one another around firearms. That being said, this video is to educate the general public. Stand behind the shooter so others learn proper range safety etiquette. Also what i have found works for me on the type 2 malfunction is to tilt the gun to the right with the opening facing down to let gravity help clear the casing thats stove piped and it doesnt fall back in as you're clearing it. Just my 2 cents. Besides that, this is good stuff to train on. Thanks for the video gents.

    The way I practice clearing jams is hit the range with Remington hollow points. Remington ammo is notoriously bad, I had a box of 50 of the 115gr HTP hollow points and got at least 6 FTFs through my CZ. I get the stuff because it's as cheap (if not cheaper than) ball ammo and I can practice tap-rack-bang. Never had a single Hornady, Federal, or Gold Dot JHP malfunction in my gun but that doesn't mean it's impervious to fault. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

    Great video. I've done the type of drill by loading each other's magazines with some live rounds, some empty brass and a couple dummy rounds.
    We usually trust our equipment. We know when we press the trigger it's going to go bang. This drill introduces doubt. It is more difficult to get good hits when you anticipate you're going to have to imediately clear a malfunction. And this drill is great for making the clearing of malfunctions second nature.

    I know that this method works,but won't rotating the gun so the port is facing down be better,thus letting gravity help clear it.Thats the method taught at Frontsight.

    Nice drill, good instruction. You both look as if you have lots of gun handeling and shooting skill. The averge person does not. The forward position on the shooter is not a safe position for instruction. People are watching you to learn. One mistake and an accident could easly occur. Think about your acudiance and their experiance level. Teach them safe positions during instruction. Keep up the good work those are importand drills that a lot of people dont take the time to learn. To many people think that bad things will not happen to them and that their pistol will never fail.

      Beat me to it. I just about had a heart attack. I understand filming requirements and such but never sacrifice safety for being able to be in the frame. Just edit the footage later. I'm glad someone mentioned it.

    Stovepipe solving showed here makes sense, I´ve always cleaned that with my support hand, and the gun has always fed the next round. But yeah, in a worst case scenario it´s possible that the next round won´t feed, or maybe the gun won´t go into battery.
    Tap rack it´s the universal solution for all no-gunsmith-need issues.

    Wonder what the shooter is doing looking behind himself. Lotta good seeing something back there will do when your weapon is the complete opposite direction.

      Follow Through:
      Did I Hit?
      Did I get the desired effect?
      Are there any other Threats?
      The only way to know is to LOOK around. Most people don’t do this, because the don’t train for combat… just shooting paper on flat ranges. We train for combat.
      Thanks for watching, TR

      @Tactical Rifleman turn with the weapon. No chance he saw and processed another threat behind him. What he's doing is range theatrics. Nothing more.

    With regards to the stovepipe malfunction, is it possible that as the pistol cycled, that a round could still have been chambered while a stovepipe occurred? If so, by racking the slide, could you then possibly induce a double feed? Theoretically, I suspect the answers are yes. Realistically though I don't suspect they are likely. Curious to hear your thoughts. I like your rationale regarding clearing the stovepipe malfunction.

    • @TacticalRifleman
      @TacticalRifleman  7 років тому +2

      rrgloria You are correct, theoretically a round could have been loaded. However, we do not base our TTP’s off of theory alone. If I have to remove my support hand from the pistol to sweep the spent casing free, I might as well use it to rack the slid ensuring, 100%, that there is a round in the chamber. Reference the Hick-Hyman law, there might be such a thing as “too many tools for the job.”

    No disrespect, but getting in front of the shooter. Is highly unsafe. But on a positive note the instruction were on point!

  • @burhanettinhasdemir4964
    @burhanettinhasdemir4964 3 роки тому

    For stovepipe clearing when you tap-rack you most probably eject a live round from the magazine along with the stuck casing. This is not an issue with the large capacity mags but if you have a 7+1 1911 you are most probably fucked.

    So let’s see here. Teaching a skill while displaying piss poor safety by the instructor being in front of the line of fire. Showing the shooter scanning to just one side and not the other, I guess only additional threats can come from his right side. The drills themselves and the technique for a stovepipe are sound teaching though. Just clean up your act boys and rock on with the drills!

    Teaching the looking around technique before holstering is stupid in my opinion. Draw and fire I am all for. Train train train but the looking around after the shots is dumb. Keep your eyes on your threat and ensure they are down. They may have fallen but that does not mean the target is "neutralized."
