  • OC - Brick Township - 20 Fletcher St - Two-Alarm Structure Fire - Garage Fire
Around 9:40 PM Brick Township Police received a call for a possible structure fire. When Police arrived on scene they confirmed, fire from the roofline of the garage. When the first due Cheif got on scene (2300) he confirmed the working fire and asked for an upgrade to a Two Alarm Fire due to heavy fire coming from the Gragage and an exposure issue on the B side of the strucure. First due Ladder Truck 2305 grabbed the hydrant and started to pull off a 2.5 inch line to attack the main body fire in the garage and 1.3/4 exposure line for the B side. 2471 was behind 2305 and helped them start pumping water & charging the hydrant. All township fire companys responed to the scene along with Point Pleasant Boro for their FAST TEAM & Engine to the scene. Once lines were in service the fire was quickly knocked down. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation by the Brick Township Police & Brick Township Fire Bureau.
That is all the info I have at this time.

Great clear video! I been through that same scene with the police shooting fires for 40 years. Some being very rude. You handled it like I do with the police. Just say ok, thank you. Then do your thing. After all these years I finally got an ID card from my city fire department thanks to the new Chief. Now the police act like I am their friend.

Constructive criticism isn't a bad thing. I am no longer an active volunteer firefighter in NJ (moved to a city for work, ours is paid is the only reason), but I was one. JB has a point. This was a very slow attack...it took about 2 minutes of the video (which didn't cover from time of arrival) to get water on the fire. Since the video doesn't show from the time the guys got on scene, their time to water had to be longer than 2 minutes.
So, a deck gun would have easily knocked a lot of it down while crews prepared handlines to mop op the rest. Not saying they did a bad job; they got it done. But, even the best firefighters in the world can learn something from each fire. Not always an option, for example when you have a more interior fire, but in this case a deck gun is a tool they could have used.
I cant knock them for having so many guys on scene. Totally not necessary, but this is standard for NJ volley departments. Working fire tones go out, and every member who has ever lived shows up, and 80% of them don't need to be there.
