"We bear the torch that, flaming, fell from the hands of those who gave their lives proclaiming that Jesus died and rose." Those words compelled me to a mission field where 100s had already died ... Many this song once again send 1000s more in their place.
If I'm not mistaken much of the tune to the four verses in this song (refrains aside) are from the Aurelia tune written by Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1864) and used most commonly in the hymn 'The Church's One Foundation' written by Samuel Stone. It would have been nice to see this acknowledged I think.
In French is admirable redeemer. We use to sing it in church when I was a child. However, these lyrics are also good, we don't have many songs encouraging the church to go for our commission. Blessings.
Can there be more beautiful words written to describe those who toil with zeal untired because there is no other Name that can save? I'm so moved to tears that my mouth moves to sing but there's no voice. Father who sustains us, send us forth on your errand =)
I am spearheading a pioneer work among rugged mountain people, ranchers, cowboys, men who are very strong, self-sufficient. We have reached a shift in what the work is demanding of us, moving from relationship building to spiritual warfare. Playing this tune on my violin a few days ago and reading the lyrics, my slothful ease was rebuked and I was reminded of those other lords (lower case "l") that still hold unhindered sway in these mountains. Time to gird up and saddle up. Thank you. Prayers appreciated.
We also have a song on that melody, in Denmark (just not the chorus). It's called: Guds kirkes grund alene = The foundation of the church of God alone.
I from Indonesian. i was here the moved. This song encourages and strengthens me to continue to preach God's love to people who don't know God. Thanks GBU🙏😇
Absolutely love the chinese musical instruments in the beginning of the song! So full circle because this piece was written about the mission in China and our brave brothers and sisters who lay their life down for Chinese. God is awesome!

Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. Colossians 1:24 NIV This song captures the essence of this verse.
Kingdom hope unfurled! Thank you Keith and Kristyn for renewing this song with such stunning media and sound. This song and video stirs up the deep wells of joy and beauty in this daunting, unfinished task.
So challenging a song especially with the background story of this song that bro Keith has shared somewhere else. Thank you for such inspiring lyrics. God bless you bro & sis. Love from India.
@@terrapin8474 Sorry that you came to this video and then said these things. I wonder what brought you to this video in the first place? I don't think these people are joking at all. I don't know what you believe in, and I'm not an authority to tell you what to believe in. So don't take it from me, or any of these other people. Pretty song with lovely words, but the truth is 99.9% of American and European Christians couldn't care less about lost souls. Music like this sounds good but doesn't reflect the sad, true state of "Christianity."
The second verse is completely unbiblical Where forces that defied Thee Defy Thee still today - Psalm 110 - "The LORD says to my lord sit down at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet" Unnumbered souls are dying And pass into the night - Revelation 7:9 - "there before me was a multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe people and language, sanding before the throne and before the Lamb".
also With none to heed their crying For life, and love, and light - Matthew 7:7 - "Ask and it will be given you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you"
@@jt9474 Hope you don't mind me explaining: "Where forces that defied Thee Defy Thee still today" This refers to the very strong spiritual stronghold that the frontline field workers (and even supporting headquarters staff) face as they try to evangelise. In truth, Jesus has not returned just yet and so Satan is still actively the Prince of this world. For the time being! "Unnumbered souls are dying And pass into the night" Not sure if you are understanding the verse in Rev 7:9 to mean that every single person from the history of mankind are included in this multitude. I think what the verse really means is that the gospel will have spread to every nationality and culture far and wide, by the time the events of Revelation come to pass, so that there will be Christians found amongst each of those people groups. But it doesn't mean that every single person ever alive has been saved. It's a different kind of "all", logic-wise. Think of it like a variety pack of chips: You get some of each flavor, but not all that has ever been made. "With none to heed their crying For life, and love, and light" It's true that there are people who have died who never heard the gospel in their earthly lifetime. We don't know if God reveals Himself to those persons individually, just before they die or before they are judged. But we do know they suffer the earthly death without hearing the gospel (from us), partly due to our disobedience to God in faithfully obeying the Great Commission. ------------- Hope that might answer some of your questions. =) Have a great day and do take care! Stay safe.
@@dwebb1935 Nice explanation. Hope more people read this. This song is far from being unbiblical. It is one of the few songs encouraging us to get off out of our pews and to go into places he is not known. I would say I am a bit cowardly like the song suggests, but I do try to lend support to career missionaries I know. We all need to be involved in the task.

“Facing a task unfinished
That drives us to our knees
A need that, undiminished
Rebukes our slothful ease
We, who rejoice to know Thee
Renew before Thy throne
The solemn pledge we owe Thee
To go and make Thee known
Where other lords beside Thee
Hold their unhindered sway
Where forces that defied Thee
Defy Thee still today
With none to heed their crying
For life, and love, and light
Unnumbered souls are dying
And pass into the night
We go to all the world
With kingdom hope unfurled
No other name has power to save
But Jesus Christ The Lord
We bear the torch that flaming
Fell from the hands of those
Who gave their lives proclaiming
That Jesus died and rose
Ours is the same commission
The same glad message ours
Fired by the same ambition
To Thee we yield our powers
We go to all the world
With kingdom hope unfurled
No other name has power to save
But Jesus Christ The Lord
O Father who sustained them
O Spirit who inspired
Saviour, whose love constrained them
To toil with zeal untired
From cowardice defend us
From lethargy awake!
Forth on Thine errands send us
To labour for Thy sake
We go to all the world
With kingdom hope unfurled
No other name has power to save
But Jesus Christ The Lord
We go to all the world
His kingdom hope unfurled
No other name has power to save
But Jesus Christ The Lord”
