Based upon what I've seen so far, I wouldn't even finish testing... I'd move on to the next product! Glad to know there are honest people out there... much appreciated.
I had considered this tent in the spring… glad I went with a more well known tent. Thank you for your honest and thoughtful reviews. Cannot wait for the rest of your Colorado van life adventures
THANK YOU, This is finally come true. This ZION review. I am sending back the Yosemite = screwed up and ordered the wrong tent. It leaked at the door flaps. I meant to order the Zion, And just placed the order 5 MINUTES ago, before I even Knew you posted or watched this vid. Now... I hope this is good.
Mr Luke . Im in the process of purchasing a tent . This morning i was looking at that particular tent. Then I asked myself does luke have video for this company? Man the tent gods heard my plea . lol thanks for the info . your channel helps a lot on these kind of things we appreciate your channel.
I've been seriously looking at this tent also. Glad I came across Luke's video. This tells me all I need to know. I would like to hear a review of the other companies Zion 2 tent, and see if theirs is any better.
never had a problem with mine.. it rain and by golly it held up well! I have this same tent for 3 years all over the the country and in good and bad weather! I Love Mine!!!!
I did my hyke and byke rain test in a week of Midwest thunderstorms frequently with 40 mph wind and rain from light all the way to over an inch per hour. Not a drop inside. I did not even guy line the tent because I wanted to see what would happen with high winds and just stakes holding it down. NO problems
🆗 bought this tent about a month ago, and on my third trip, about the 12th night in the tent, we got 10hrs of solid rain while in the grand canyon. We also had a bit of wind. You reference this tent having a bad pitch often, but i’m not sure why. I would consider a bad pitch to be a tent that collects rain and pools on the fly because of sagging etc. This wasn’t my experience. I’m not sure why you bother to tie the rain fly to the poles. Even while gusting 20-25kn the tent had no issues, as the rain fly is clipped in, and going no where. Those ties simply stress out the seam sealant by using them. They are basically pointless save weight cut them off. My tent was dry in the morning after the 10hr rain and here is why: I only used two stakes. I didn’t stress out about pulling every wrinkle out of the fly. I only staked out the vestibules and I didn’t stake out the long ends of the tent. This closed the gap where you saw all your splash back. Yes, you get what you pay for, but you also have work with what you’ve got. $124 shipped. Or say my hubba hubba NX for $469 shipped. (which actually does condensate on me sadly) The choice is easy here (for car camping) Because this tent is so heavy duty it will definitely out last the hubba hubba. Your frustrations are clearly obvious, but as a tent guru you should be able to work with a design not against it. All of your issues with the Zion 2p seem minor and avoidable imo.
Paria also makes the Zion 1 or 2 person tent. I have the 1 person-works great, rain, wind or shine. Don’t think they are associated, but both sell on Amazon.
I've taken this tent into some really rough weather (heavy rain and snow, strong wind) and never had this issue. Obviously a weakness though. Oddly enough, you didn't touch on the worst part of this tent - the condensation! My brothers and I went on a trip where 4 of us had this same tent, and every morning that we had to tear the tents down, the inside of the rain flies were completely soaked. That said, after a couple years with this, I am simultaneously not disappointed with it, but I'm also looking at the Nemo Dragonfly 2 ;)
Amazing new camera quality. I’ve missed a few videos so I may be late noticing but the quality is impressive! You’ve always had good video quality but this is another level.
I'd love to see a test of the other company's Zion 2 tent, see if it's any better in more ways then just being lighter. Based on seeing 2 different companies with a tent by the same name, that visually looks about the same, but one is know known to be crap, I'm suspecting Hyke and Byke may be doing cheap knock-offs. Something the other company might be interested in knowing about especially if a test of their Zion 2 tent performs significantly better.
The condensation that I experienced on this exact same tent was ridiculous. The vents are way too low, the moisture gets caught in the very top and never leaves. It was a good 10mph wind out those few days as well. Most everything I have tested from this company has been bad experiences. They don't care either, ask them.
I bought a tent that looks almost identical to that tent from Walmart for under 33 dollars. They did point out that is was heavy. But the weight came from the heavy duty fabric because the poles and stakes were aluminum. It didn't come with a foot print or an aluminum disc but i will just use a bottle cap and a tarp if needed.. My wife and I mostly car camp in the summer in California. My zippers said YKK on them and they were smooth but I wouldn't bet on it. It was sold as the Tooca model. The tent was seam sealed and the stitching looked good but I will test it. I will spend some time to improve it's short comings. I have time but limited funds as I'm retired. Thanks for another great review.
My Hyke n Byke Yosemite 2p sat four days in non stop rain pretty much with the same intensity as the rain you tested your Hyke n Byke tent. Bone dry inside. A very good $95 dollar purchase. Sorry your tent didn’t work out as well.
I think it would be interesting to do a revisit episode, where you take some of the lesser performing gear and make mods to them to improve how well they work (ie, adjustable fly tie downs, additional seam taping, etc). It should be noted that this would specifically discourage purchasing the gear and making the modifications (since you really don't want to reward the company for substandard products), and be more towards two classes of people: 1) people who have already purchased the gear, can't return it for whatever reason, and want to make up for its shortcomings, or 2) people who have unexpected issues with gear in general in the field, and how to improvise solutions for those issues on the fly.
Absolute professional. You could tell the owner was being a real tool about it and he instead of trashing the product gave it a fair shake. That's how you earn trust as a reviewer folks.
So odd. I have had one of these for years. Used it more than any other tent I have had. You are making me question my own reality. I have camped between 20-30 nights in mine and no problems. On the other hand, my tent does look a little different than yours. Maybe the newer ones are made more cheaply. I did put cords on the stake out points like you mentioned. Mike
Thank you for this review! I will NOT trust this company, if they lied about the zippers, what else have they lied about!! I WILL NOT purchase ANYTHING from this company! Thank you for all the work you have done on this review. You SHINE!! Hey Susie!!🥰
I had now the gosammer 2 and im always 😊😊😋😎 !thx you luke!. I seaching a high end hot tent and a titaniumstove of you now something? Now its came Winter!😎
I had placed this tent as one of my top possible tent purchases because of 2 door and vestibule, inside storage sites, size, foot print inclusion and eventually reduced cost. But quality control issues and the problem with fly and main body separation are very important to me if I don’t want a wet night sleeping. You certainly managed to present key “failures” which has now removed this one from my list. Back to more research on my part.
Luke, I enjoy all of your videos, especially your gear reviews. Your presentation and video production is excellent. During this video, I had some difficulty seeing some of the water leaks that you were highlighting with your flashlight. I was thinking that if you use a headlamp to illuminate the scene while freeing you hands, you could use a laser pointer to highlight and pinpoint issues with the gear that you are describing. I think it could enhance your narrative well.
At first it looked like some sweet green screen setup, but then it started raining. Lol. Your straight talk and agenda free reviews are always appreciated. Maybe some company should hire you as the R&D director!
Thanks, Luke for the great review. Getting wet isn't worth it, no matter how much money you save. I got rid of a poorly made dome tent nearly 30 years ago (I leftover from my cheap ex-husband, LOL) and have always bought quality ever since with no regrets. I still have my European model Wild Country tent, my PahaQue car camping tent, my Mountain Hardwear Trango 2 2P and my NEMO Dragonfly Bikepack 2P tent. You may pay a bit more for good quality but sleep a lot better when you stay dry and comfortable, IMO.
I have a few tents and 2 are the hyke and byke Yosemite 1p and 2p. They performed amazing with some severe with and thunderstorms. If it were lighter I would use it over my big agnes and nemo tents. The zion looks like it completely different from their other model. Sad the quality in the zion is so poor. Would love to see you test out the Yosemite . Another great video bro....
Move along next ! Thank you so much I was thinking about this tent o thank you I got a hot tent the one tigress it's very good but the logo is on the inside ha ha but it works great day to you .
Historical perspective. (I'm 76). We spent serious money on Kelty and Jansport products. THEY were the NAMES to conjure by in my day. CONDENSATION: for sure. SPLASHBACK: you bet. WATER INSIDE THE TENT was expected. The idea was to use a 'blow bed' to raise the sleep system above what small accumulations of water happened overnight. Sponge and towelling were a standard part of our kit. We OFTEN woke to find a small outside corner of our sleeping bags to be damp or WET. WE were HAPPY AS CLAMS to be out of the hillside (we could not call them 'mountains') winds. WE were basically DRY🙄and comfortable 🙂 in comparison to the canvas tarps, the family used on truckloads of grain. NOW I use your reviews to help me find even sounder shelter. Today's Consumers expect a bit more than we had on offer.
Ok so I had an idea to help show when a tent has leaked a little take a piece of used tissue paper and just place it on the tent floor! It will soak up the water and be a visible way to see smaller leaks the camera struggles to pick up. Its also a second use for something that rarely gets a reuse. Thanks for the unbiased reviews!
After seeing all the defects in the design and poor performance would not even consider wasting my money. Great video, keep them coming. Your videos are really appreciated. Danny Stricklin
Thanks' for the review of this tent always helpful, I prefer a fly that pulls away and drops down further, such as my Coleman dome tent. would not be a good tent for me ,
jig... had that experience once with an OLD cheap tent that had been sitting in the basement for years before next use. Not with a new quality product. Before my partner bought his camper car, we spent even very rainy times in switzerland in a big Jack Wolfskin tent. Pouring alpine rains, you know. Even when the ground was soaked, inside we were dry and cosy & all our suff. And this tent was pretty used. We sold it for a good price in the end and reckon the buyer (father of some kids) still had lots of fun with it. So, folks, buy quality ... even used is a better bargain than new and cheap crap.
I just came back from a weekend scout trip using the Hyke and Byke Yosemite… and the rain fly is cut so funky that you can’t stale it out right. The vestibules are larger than the Zion… and it comes with nice poles, stakes and a foot print… I even like the full ventilation body… but the rain fly is saggy and I can’t figure out how to fix it
Just set up my Yosemite, added shock cord to the ends. Worked great but the doors still sagged. And it leaked at first set up thru the top of the doors, so it dripped inside the tent because the base is wider than the top. That is why I wanted the Zion since the top of the fly and zippers is more inline with the base. A straight down drip should be outside the tent body into the vestibule area.
I have seen most 3 season tents with largely a mesh body get some splashing inside from rain bouncing off the ground, even expensive name brands. Cheap enough you can fix the guy outs but if you are serious about backpacking just spend a little more and get a better tent.
I just watch both of your videos on the Zion 2p tent. Great videos. Can you recommend any 1-2p tents, especially ones that don’t break the bank. I joined your channel and I look forward to move videos by you. Jim
I have the Zion 2 and like it ... with limitations. We've backpacked with it once. The weight is simply too great. I can't say I was deceived by the company calling it ultralight -- though it probably got my attention. The weight was disclosed before I made the purchase. I think the price made me mentally discount the weight. The backpacking trip brought me back to reality. I use it now just for car camping. It's roomy for two and, since we're dry-season campers, rain is seldom an issue for us. I've never had mine out in the rain. Indeed, we often use it without the rainfly.
Thank you Luke. I take other women out backpacking to introduce them to the outdoors. I purchase and loan my own gear out and had my eye on this as a loaner tent. The other Zion tent is by Paria Outdoor Products, getting one of their tents instead now as I have other items from them and they are good, quality, affordable pieces of gear-and their customer service is outstanding. Looks like this purchase would have been a bad decision.
The Exped Orion II id like to see put to the test. 6lbs, 3+ season, withstands 75mph winds according to their tests. Theyve been out for over 20 years now but no coverage from luke :O
Hey Luke been a subscriber for a long time now don't really get a chance to comment a lot. But with your knowledge on the way a tent should be set up in the way it should function had you ever thought about designing your own tent, where you can design it without the flaws??? Love the channel keep up the good work you inform all of us out here.. would love to see you design your own tent you are very knowledgeable and you put them through the actual test not a company that designs it and never does a field test..
Evening Luke. Honest opinion is that you should talk about the company. Many of us would not support companies through growth and product development if the company were to not care about its customers. Its a HUGE reason a lot of us will buy things like Hilleberg tents. They are a great product made by a great team that truly cares about its customers. Having a company that basically says 'screw you' to those that support them should be an open topic to speak about. I dont advocate anything negative, just unfiltered truth and objectiveness. Something that I think other views may agree with. Its why your content is as great as it is. Honesty.
Ordered a one man vestibule tent from them different model then this one so far been ok. After seeing this I may do little prep work on it just in case lol
Guessing it did leak. I hadn't had problems with the one I got a year ago, until taking it out this last trip. The temperature was below freezing, which was good otherwise all the condensation that built up on the inside of the rainfly wouldve dripped on me all night. The vents were open and I'd even set the tent up so the constant breeze we had would flow in one and out the other. I prefer 2 person tents even when I'm the only one in it due to keeping gear in away from the dozens of lethal bugs and critters in my area, but I might switch to my litefighter1 till I find a suitable 2 person replacement...
Having tried several tents, the Zion 1 Hyke and Byke is the only one i could fit in without touching both ends of the tent and a some room left for gear. I think most tent size specs are taken from the outside as in one end of the rain fly to the other instead of the real inside space. Mine seems to not have any quality issues but just in case, I glued the seems with Seam Grip and added my own adjustable guylines. If anyone knows of a tent spacious enough to fit in at 6' and still have a bit of room at both ends for gear and an inflated pillow (Klymit Static V Recon Pad sitting at 72 inches long barely fits in most tents) I would like to know. Looking for a 2 person version, be it low budget or not I want to see options for tall people. By the way, love your content Luke, really helpful stuff!
Two things. First why do you not put the tents in completely exposed locations? Second, you should get an inexpensive rain gauge and put it right next to the tents so you know how much rain the products were actually exposed to
I'm glad I didn't get yours. Mine only has the short line issue. I did my hyke and byke rain test in a week of Midwest thunderstorms frequently with 40 mph wind and rain from light all the way to over an inch per hour. Not a drop inside. I did not even guy line the tent because I wanted to see what would happen with high winds and just stakes holding it down. NO problems As for the length of lines I can use my own to add length if needed.
I bought the zion 1 person tent..absolutely love it..also purchesed their mummy sleeping bag 15 degree ...love it..totally comfortable. I have nothing but good things to say about hyke and byke. Sorry your experience sucked. I realize i didn't get the 2p tent..but hey..one bad tent isnt going to kill my experience. And..your review is just one review..enough said.
It always baffles me that these companies that sell budget friendly tents dont take a minute and test them out before releasing them to their customers. I mean how hard would it be to have adjustable guy lines? Maybe change the fly a tad bit to get it away from the tent? Seems like a minor change to me. Thanks as always Luke. We all benefit from all your hard work. Cheers.
Oh you don't know the half of it Luke. I tried to give it a proper go in the jungle of Hawaii The splash back was horrendous. I eventually ditch the fly and went with the forest green Forceatt fly(bigger vents better QC) all The corners wer such a joke like a wadded up trash bag. top pole support stitching failure, basically the only thing I saved were the pretty green Poles. 😂 I did like the ventilation, I wish I knew about the Paria!
Love the tent review. I would be very interested in you starting to review rooftop tents. There are a ton of tents on the market and we trust your reviews over others on the webernet that are "sponsored" by these manufacturers.
Hi there! I absolutely love watching your channel. Thank you. I also love the outdoors...but having said that how do you get past a fear of snakes? I find myself being so super cautious with every step I can't really relax and enjoy myself. Any advice for being a baby lol?
What about adding line to the tie downs, would that help with the splash back leaking? Seam Tape is another issue that means there are other issues that may pop up.
@@davidwevans4132 That would do it is something that can't be fixed. going to have to do work on one might as well get a cheap on do the work. well not cheap, but one that would be worth the extra work on.
I believe it will fail in all categories. I feel, based on your conversation with the owner, he does not value feedback from anyone. He and his company must change to be successful.
I've enjoyed watching your 2 man tent reviews... Watched quite a few now. I've yet to come across one tat I think will meet my needs.... Within $150 and 6lbs incl a decent ground sheet, at least 42" inside height, well designed ventilated 3 season but can handle some cold nights, preferably with 2 doors and decent sized vestibule (front awning would be a bonus)... Its for moto camping. Any recommendations.... Many thanks
You should really check out this small company called Featherstone. I have the Moondance 25 quilt… awesome!! And I have their Obsidian 1 single person backpacking tent… awesome!!
How about a review for the the new onetigres rock fortres I'm very intrigued I have in my wish list I have there last hot tent a bit small would love to hear what you think thanks Luke
Well I'm A Loser again. Hope I can cancel my order.
Mr Luke . Im in the process of purchasing a tent . This morning i was looking at that particular tent. Then I asked myself does luke have video for this company? Man the tent gods heard my plea . lol thanks for the info . your channel helps a lot on these kind of things we appreciate your channel.

never had a problem with mine.. it rain and by golly it held up well! I have this same tent for 3 years all over the the country and in good and bad weather! I Love Mine!!!!
Honest review, thanks Luke. FWIW I have a hyke & byke down sleeping bag and its been great down into the low 20s. Ive had it for several years.
Never used hyke n byke tents but their sleeping bags are decent for the price thanks luke for what you do
I did my hyke and byke rain test in a week of Midwest thunderstorms frequently with 40 mph wind and rain from light all the way to over an inch per hour.
(which actually does condensate on me sadly) The choice is easy here (for car camping)
Because this tent is so heavy duty it will definitely out last the hubba hubba.
Your frustrations are clearly obvious, but as a tent guru you should be able to work with a design not against it. All of your issues with the Zion 2p seem minor and avoidable imo.
Ditto!
I have since, unsubscribed from Luke's channel.
Well interesting, I have the single person, have been in several storms including a tropical and never had a problem in the SC mountains .

After you mentioned the boss's response, no way in Hel- I'd spend a penny with them. Great video!
The only equipment tester, who knows how too Rain Dance for all his tent tests!
He is one of the few , that I trust . If its bad , he will tell you , if its good , he will tell you that also .
How to. Too much.
Red Beards been doing this since Younger Dryas.
Don't by any tent that needs seam tape
Minimum 3 person tent
Amazing new camera quality. I’ve missed a few videos so I may be late noticing but the quality is impressive! You’ve always had good video quality but this is another level.

We need a "Luke" certification for tents, only the few and the proud can meet those standards.
My Hyke n Byke Yosemite 2p sat four days in non stop rain pretty much with the same intensity as the rain you tested your Hyke n Byke tent.

General improvisation in the field would be cool
This is a fantastic idea

Thanks sharing this video! Mr. Luke ☕☕🫖
Thanks for all your info on camping equipment. It really helps consumers save on buying awful items ✌️
Mike
I have an earlier one and was thinking the same thing.
Thank you for this review! I will NOT trust this company, if they lied about the zippers, what else have they lied about!! I WILL NOT purchase ANYTHING from this company! Thank you for all the work you have done on this review. You SHINE!! Hey Susie!!🥰
Wow! My sons each have one of these and neither one leaks. Both rainflies fit well, too. We’ve been in several rainstorms, too.

Great video Luke I love your videos keep up the good work and also you should do a solo beach camp
Now that you mention it, I can't recall him ever camping near a beach. Great idea!

Move along next ! Thank you so much I was thinking about this tent o thank you I got a hot tent the one tigress it's very good but the logo is on the inside ha ha but it works great day to you .
I was looking at this as it was low cost and large enough although the weight was a concern. After this review I will cross this one off consideration
This video made me remove this tent from my cart! Thank you for showing it in action

6 lbs that's car camping territory lol

Hi from Syracuse NY brother and thank you for sharing your thoughts and adventures and your family
Yeah that is a very good purchase the tent did not leak all tents have some sort of flashback
I love your camping video's
Thanx Luke I dodged a bullet on this one! I almost pulled the trigger but Thanx to your No Agenda Reviews I went with Naturehike Cloud up 2
I have the cloud up 2 here in Australia, as my lightweight tent, been amazing and handled a few storms here without any issues.
Outstanding job keep it up man love the show. Thanks
Strength and honor folks 🦾
Glad I picked the nature hike
A fine mist on a hot summer night during a rain storm. What could be better? :)
🌲thank you for posting your video stay healthy out there today 🙏✝⛪
@@mbarr1029 glad I didn’t get any leaks… but yeah the doors are so saggy 😫
I have seen most 3 season tents with largely a mesh body get some splashing inside from rain bouncing off the ground, even expensive name brands. Cheap enough you can fix the guy outs but if you are serious about backpacking just spend a little more and get a better tent.
Thanks!
Thank you, I appreciate the support that you have given to the channel.

Love the channel keep up the good work you inform all of us out here.. would love to see you design your own tent you are very knowledgeable and you put them through the actual test not a company that designs it and never does a field test..
these companies are straight up just lying to the customers with zero consequences.
Would appreciate some details about the types of knots you tie, and why. Even the knot names would be very helpful.
Very nice quality video👍🏼, what camera are you using?
I love your show! I'm hoping to start content soon!
Two things. First why do you not put the tents in completely exposed locations? Second, you should get an inexpensive rain gauge and put it right next to the tents so you know how much rain the products were actually exposed to
I guess the tent needs to take a hike.....😄😄🤣🤣
I'm glad I didn't get yours. Mine only has the short line issue. I did my hyke and byke rain test in a week of Midwest thunderstorms frequently with 40 mph wind and rain from light all the way to over an inch per hour. Not a drop inside. I did not even guy line the tent because I wanted to see what would happen with high winds and just stakes holding it down. NO problems
As for the length of lines I can use my own to add length if needed.
I’m interested in the green jacket I hope that there will be a review on it.
Thats a wrap ! Next product id say no need to waste time on the rest of testing if the tent leaks from rain
Cheers.
I would love for you to review my good ol favorite... The Eureka Timberline A-frame tent.
Haha you should go into business and design your own tents! I’ll definitely buy one
Great review, like to see a review of the other tent with the same name, also the Bessport 2 or 3 man tent from Amazon
Just stay home where you are in your safe zone
My guess is it may leak for alittle but not entirely disastrous one though
Would love to see a review of the Alps Zephyr 2. I know you did the Zephyr 1.
Interesting review Luke. Facts are facts, as they say. I'm looking at a couple of the tents by Nortent. Have you ever reviewed any of their products?
yes i think it will
What about adding line to the tie downs, would that help with the splash back leaking? Seam Tape is another issue that means there are other issues that may pop up.
Read the review from "Apoc Survival", 4 reviews above. He claims condensation problems. May not be worth it!
@@davidwevans4132 That would do it is something that can't be fixed. going to have to do work on one might as well get a cheap on do the work. well not cheap, but one that would be worth the extra work on.
Does it ever not rain there ? Thanks for the review
I believe it will fail in all categories. I feel, based on your conversation with the owner, he does not value feedback from anyone. He and his company must change to be successful.
So is this a similarly priced knockoff of the Paria tent. I could be wrong but Paria has been around a bit longer
Many thanks
I’d love to see you review a bunch of the Paria products. I think they are great budget products.
Luke it is great to have some one keep these companies held to stander we need to stay safe or they need not to be in store s
You should really check out this small company called Featherstone. I have the Moondance 25 quilt… awesome!! And I have their Obsidian 1 single person backpacking tent… awesome!!
What did you end up doing with the Improved Combat Shelter tent? I thought there was going to be a followup video.
How about a review for the the new onetigres rock fortres I'm very intrigued I have in my wish list I have there last hot tent a bit small would love to hear what you think thanks Luke
Maybe it would make a good giant hydration unit?
