      It's really silly. He says he was referred by a friend. It's not like he cold applied. His offer got rescinded. If he didn't have a friend he'd be SOL.

    Don't agree with everything in this video. You shouldn't want an internship just to "make your friends jealous" and you shouldn't feel like shit just because you got an internship at a non FANG company and your friends did. Nothing wrong with getting inspired by others but you should not look down on yourself.

    Totally agree with the points in the video! It would be cool to see a series where you or a friend of yours apply to SWE jobs in the current market and document your experiences and follow the tips you preach.

  • @itismydump
    @itismydump Місяць тому +12

    Uhhhh, this is 25% true lol. Seems this uploader needs to take some accounting classes. Businesses trimmed down because they no longer needs as many SWE/programmers. They are only retaining or hiring those with experience in specific tech stacks or those who are exceptionally talented or skilled. Otherwise, networking is your best asset. Even with that, it's all about demand. SWE and all IT in general is a cost center, you must all remember that.

      @user-hj2ge8ph7q Місяць тому +1

      exactly his point. the market changed. its not bad. SWEs have to adapt and upskill to stay useful.

    • @itismydump
      @itismydump Місяць тому +2

      @user-hj2ge8ph7q my point is, you can adapt and unskilled, but your adaption needs to be that of everyone else: your market is no longer hot because the infrastructure has now been built, there is very little blue ocean in the space, so businesses adjusted to only gore west they absolutely need, meaning less positions being filled and at lower average salaries. Welcome to the regular economy.

      1. apply to be a teaching assistant.
      2. look for non technical people that are starting a business that need a programmer. offer to join in exchange for equity and a title.
      3. contribute to open source software.
      4. start your own registered business, and build a product to sell. be the CTO and CEO of your own comapny.
      5. do freelance work

      In what world is doing projects outdated? Your projects are your experience. They tell people that you're worth a damn and that you have some inkling that you're intelligent and know what you're doing. Then they might give you a chance, and then you get work experience.

    Brother, please tell me if I need to be an expert in tech and am mainly interested in cybersecurity, AI, and robotics, what major should I choose? My plan is to get a bachelor's degree in CS and a master's degree in AI, robotics, and cybersecurity. I am planning to get a dual MS. Is this a good choice? My passion since my teens has been to start a tech startup like Google or Meta. I just turned twenty on June 2nd. So, please guide me because I am in a big confusion about picking the best undergraduate degree for my passion and dream. Please help me, and whoever reads this comment, please share your personal thoughts. It would be a life-changing reply and help. Thanks in advance.

      I'm not sure how much have a double major of the same degree with different specialties matters (if that's what your implying) but you need to pick something you find interesting while also planning for the future. If all 3 of those are your interests then that is good because you have 3 options to pick from that you will enjoy learning about. Moreover, just because you are interested in something doesn't mean it needs to become your career you can still learn about it/build in your free time. If your dream is to create your own company you can still do that there's nothing holding you back from it. If you have a good startup idea and experience programming that is what matters for creating a company. However, if you know more about one topic, for example AI, you would have an easier time basing your startup around such topic. And remember a degree is not experience, it is education.

    your videos/advice is great honestly really appreciate it, just had a request, i'm an 18 year old who's always been interested in tech and used to f around with codebases on github, fork and make improvements, all since 13, i got into web dev like 2 -3 years ago and i am a decent fullstack dev right now, working on some paid internships and i got a remote job too, i am active on tech twitter and connecting, maintaining my github too while upping my skills, but i'm a finance student (UG) rn, what would be your advice for the self taught route for SWEs or those who're from a non CS bg, i'm always feeling the fomo even though i am learning those foundation concepts while juggling it with my internships/jobs
