I love how people completely misrepresented their tweet as being against mods when the only reason they spoke about it is because the mod in question was being taken online and corrupting other peoples save files. They never at any point said they were against mods, they said don’t use this specific one online because it can ruin other peoples saves. @@dembirdstho9185 If you think that having a min-maxed set is all it takes to be a speed runner, you're dreaming.
On the other hand, if you're already a speed runner, the only fair playing fields are "no charm/augments" or "modded charm/augments". The middle ground that relies on RNG ruins the competitive integrity of the community.
I can see why this seems like cheating for someone who plays the game casually and focuses on the immersion and grind. However, I'd ask you to try seeing it from another point of view. For many players, the allure of MH has become the perfect optimisation and execution of scripted/TA/hame runs. These players take pride in shaving time off hunts in any way the game allows and then sharing their improvements. This process elevates other like-minded players, cycling over and over, and continuously raises the skill ceiling of the community.
It might be hard to understand but I'll make a simple analogy. Without those legal talisman and augment mods, it would be like giving all Olympic swimmers flippers, but of various sizes and efficiency. They all just pick a number and get assigned a random pair that might not even fit...
I agree wholeheartedly that using any mods that ignore in-game legality or affect other players should be banned. I can't, however, see any positive that would come from forcing >500,000hrs of gameplay on top players to get min-maxed so they can compete fairly.

Capcom taking a passive stance is exactly what they should've done. There are some people, especially on Steam forums that are constantly arguing that this game should have some kind of anti cheat or that Capcom should disallow modding altogether... But none of those people understand that by taking such measures against this tiny minority of players that most of us never even meet in their games is also going to screw over the vast majority, aka the rest of the players.
If you want a recent example of this just look at VR Chat and how the stupidity of the dev team completely screwed over the entire playerbase simply because they wanted to combat hackers. I'm happy Capcom isn't making the same mistake. Now if only they stopped putting Denuvo in their games too, or at least removed it some time after the game has released...

This is referring a SPECIFIC mod(s) that change the way anomaly quests work, there are some that change the locale, others change the core fundamentals of the monster (like HP, dmg, etc) and some give you anomaly monsters at lower investigation tiers than you were supposed to. These are the mods Capcom is saying could brick your save game; which I can certainly see how they should not be used. Someone may go online and just join a random quest and brick their save without knowingly being in a quest that they could not be by "legal" means.
The rest of the mods? Capcom hasn't said anything about them. On the topic of the armor crafting mods, Capcom should actually think about why are they so popular, perhaps people don't want to spend hundreds of hours on a gambling screen when we could be spending it hunting monsters, you know the actual name of the game?
They should also look at other popular mods like the Follow Me mod where you can take followers on quests beyond surveys, why is that popular? Well perhaps some of us believe followers were the best addition to Monster Hunter ever and would love to have them all the time when we are not playing online, certainly Capcom could include that easier and better maybe. Same with the resize HUD mod, perhaps giving that option to players would be amazing since the HUD looks awfully big when used on a 4K TV. Or the Remove Monster Kill Cam, Capcom can just give us a button hold to skip that stupid animation, easy; it's clear most of us do NOT want to stand there like idiots for 40 seconds or whatever. So many QoL things we get from modding, Capcom should take as a learning lesson

I definitely dont blame people for modding in the best rolls though because the system is definitely super stingy when giving out anything even worth mentioning let alone material and time costs.
As for cosmetics, I'd love to see Capcom bring back layered weapons especially since it was already on rampage weapons. Any other visual changes are completely harmless and are absolutely fine.
You summed it up pretty well here. As long as it's not affecting people such as playing online with crazy mods, it's fine whether I use them or not. If someone comes in my lobby and one shots monsters, I'd be upset and probably even sell all quest rewards.

Talismans I feel was an acceptable thing since it was getting lucky with 1 thing. I remember getting lucky in GenU with my first G rank Talisman being a tenderizer and mounting, then never using any other one ever since for my play style it was a God Talisman.
But with quruo crafts I feel like it went from a tolerable grind to a slog. Since you now need to get lucky with not just your Talisman, but now 5 pieces of armor. And that's if you stay with the one armor set. Later as new monsters come out with better armors and new metas you're going to have to get that same 5 piece luck every time.

Because the biggest issue with ar is that it is not fun fighting the same 45 difrent monster 50 times each to get majority of the pieces to find tune your build and the title update monsters expect you to be atleast ar 184 when you fight them so they will indeed blow your head clean off. To get majority of your good decos and finish ar grinding it will take about 150 to 300 hours to do and only about 20% of that is fun due to the risen quest being exciting. And i think speedrunners as wells as everyone else should be allowed as they are possible results in an unmodded game, even if the chance is miniscule to get those charms and augments.
You still have to use your own time to research your own set, whether thats with mods or without.
I have seen guys with ridicoulusly modded sets that still take over 20minutes for anomaly 70+ mob. Skill is the most important factor in this game at the end.

to me it really depends on how unlikely those results are though. If they're a 1/1billion chance to get, that's not a talisman you would *ever* actually see or get. It's still *technically* possible but not in any way realistic such that it's really fair to cheat in.
I think more recently it's changed, but at one point it was thought to be technically possible to get things like full crit boost or agitator on a qurious craft. Needless to say that's not something any legitimate player would ever actually see.
Having multiple rolls for a chance at something doesn't mean its even remotely possible to get it all of those multiple times. I'm not explaining that the best but hopefully you get what I mean.

@@princetbug well, the game has a system that prevent most illegal charms from existing BUT some barely illegal one can pass, those are the one you speak of, those are illegal charm, so the comment above yours is still right in my opinion
For example, i've seen some 4-2-1 charms going around with 2 skills maxed ( skill like wirebug whisperer or evade extender) but those can't happen with skills like attack biost, agitator, etc... Cause of how the skill tiers are
For the chance to get like, a 3-2-1 jewel with 2 specific skills, it's really low yes BUT not low enough to be impossible to have ( even more if you take into account that one build can use multiple different "god charms" ( for example, you could use a charm that does any of attack boost, weakness exploit or crit boost on any set that use all those skills )
This means that for speed runners, grinding those charms is hard, but not hard, the chance of finding a god charm isn't that low BUT the chance of finding a god charm for the weapon they're using in speedrun is really low, and you can't ask speedrunners to adapt to the charm they get as random rewards like " well you are indeed a bow player BUT you just got your first god charm and it's two skills only usable by switch axe, go change your main weapon"
As for any random player, saying that them having "god charm" impact your gameplay is simply blowing things out of proportion, what's important is the skill of the player, by a very large margin, for your average joe, the diff between a god charm and a medium one is maybe 1 minute in his already 17 minute long run,and for multi that would go down to 20 second ? And maybe one less cart
At worst you can ignore it, at best it can lessen the "that fucking random" effect

If you roll 50 anima charms with mp accelerators and write down the results of what each charm was, then quit to title without saving and roll another 50 anima charms but this time used hunts to progress them, you would get the exact same 50 charms as before. If you roll 50 charms of a different type and then melded 50 anima charms to try and see if that affected anything, you'd get the same 50 charms. Charms are set in stone and their skills and slots have already been decided by the game long before you start melding them. If a god charm for your weapon is 500 charms away then you have no choice but to meld 499 charms first before you can get to it.
It's entirely time gated. The only interactivity a player can have with the charm system is dying to rajang in the arena to speed up the process, or mass using mp accelerators to skip the trash charms as fast as possible.
Thank god this isn't an activision game, if it was we'd probably all be buying mp accelerators from the store at 50 for $10.99 USD to skip the time gating instead of just modding it out entirely for free like we are now. Personally, I wouldn't use any of the major gameplay-altering mods like the ones that let you get perfect talismans or qurio crafts, since I like that aspect of the game and feel it would make the game less fun to just be handed everything I need. But I understand why people use those and have no issue with other people using them. It's when people start doing things like modding their damage to one-shot every monster and then jumping in online lobbies that I start taking issue. If you want to steamroll the entire game, that's your business, but keep it to solo play. Nobody wants to go into a multiplayer hunt just for it to end as soon as someone touches the monster.

Capcom doesn't have an issue with cheat mods in general like you stated but rather with some modified afflicted quests that can cause save data issues even for other players who could be completely unaware of having these modded quests.
And if you check the TA wiki speedrunning rules, god talismans can require a screenshot, augments are disallowed.

Since many people seem to fail to understand how this works and what Capcom actually means, let me hit you up.
MHWorld and MHRise have a very basic "anti cheat" function on pc. The legal system. Basically the game is incredibly easy to mod and change values and other parts of it to your own pleasure. However, the game has a check list of everything that is legal in terms of values. Stats, quests, charms, decorations, etc. Anything here that is not considered legal by the list will get flagged in the game. This is why there is specifically a mod out there for giving you really strong but still legal charms, because they don't get flagged and they don't mess up with anything when playing online. Same goes for everything else. Mods recently have come out for manipulating the qurio system to make quests that the game considers illegal. Problem is that unlike equipment or stats, illegal quests can flag the entire lobby as being illegal and corrupt the saves.
The team has literally no way to do anything to remove legal mods from working even if they wanted to. The framework of the engine just isn't built for it. However my guess is they will make it so when your stuff is flagged as illegal, it will not allow u to go online permanently or until whatever flagged ur save as illegal is gone.

For some games, this isn't necessarily a deal breaker. But when you're talking about a grind-focused game like Monster Hunter, which you can easily sink hundreds of hours into, I find it reprehensible that they won't let us keep that progress on a stronger platform. Even CDProjekt Red created save data transfer for Witcher III between platforms.
So, skin mods I don't have an issue with; make the game look cool for your tastes. And when it comes to mods that edit your inventory, I don't always find it okay if you're trying to cheapen the experience. But, there are certainly situations where they are understandable, even on better moral grounds than the developer's arguments against.

    The reason ?
Because I always wondered what the theoretical max game values could be having every good skill in the game (back in world)
I came from world playing it on ps4 (so no mods no game brakes all pure legit skill*)
when rise came about I thought to my self, do I want another grind fest or do I want a sand box...
So I decided if it comes to console I'll play it legit else if it releases in pc I'll sandbox it.
So in the end play however you want but if you cheat keep it to your self and don't go online or play with your friends if they are ok with it.
*I still consider myself a noob at world :p

MH4U has a similar problem, because there is a breach that allow players to easily modify event quests, it's called "Custom Quest" and while it was funny at start, people started to cheat with it, managing to make custom quests that looks like regular quests, but changing the hunter rank to 999, giving max money, max points and unobtenable stuff. So they could destroy your save if you were not making anough attention, there was also player with end games armors at rank 1 and weapons with 20000 elements and status which would make any monster die in no time.

ive played monster hunter when i was a kid. I've had friends who has cheat engines in their psp so that they can have max money, points, items and such. for me, it took away the joy of hunting. i get that it's frustrating to not get the rare item you hunt for for a couple of hunts. but finally getting it after your 500th time hunting a rathian, the ecstasy you get. it gives you the joy because you literally worked hard for it. on the ds, i've seen boastful pricks in multiplayer online that the toughest monsters are a piece of cake, only to find out that their 3ds' were homebrewed and has cheats in em. doing one hits to elder dragons and such. those kinds of modifications sucks tbh. it takes away the joy of the game. it takes away the joy of monster hunter. graphical mods are okay, but mods that are literal cheats are a pest for me. i hope everyone could understand. this is my opinion to mods/hacks/cheats thats been there for awhile now.

It's the MH4U Custom Quest scenario all over again. Back then you could create your own quest and it was so stupid easy too. From making a World Eater Deviljho Quest to making a Vs 2 Baby Deviljho quest, it was fun. Really looked like people could make their own event quest since you could also choose what items and rewards people got. That's where the problem began. First it was "Hey, please create a hard quest but make the rewards some thing amazing like mantles etc". That was fine. Created one shot quests where monsters would destroy you if you were not prepared but the rewards were worth it. Then it turned to "I lost my save data (That shit happened alot to people during my 4U days, it was serious IMO), could you please create a Low Rank quest where I can get specific parts for a build I used to run?" They gave proof that they did lose their save and so I did it. Got people what they needed . But then it devolved into "Man, the grind is too much. Please create a Low Rank quest with these mantles in the supply box and these rewards at the end"
That's when I knew that it was time for me to retire from Custom Quest making and 4U in general. TLDR, Mods are mods. It doesn't matter what they are but it's how you choose to use them. I don't believe Capcom should ban people using mods but ban those who are using mods to get an advantage, at least online. I saw someone one shot a Malzeno in one of my hunts before and funny enough no one besides him carved it. Ugh sorry for the banter, it's just shit like that, that ticks me off

But the counter point to that is that it is not how the game was intended to be played and balance was achieved through their building the game. Especially if what you are doing impacts the game for those who are not modding. If people could remain ethical and only do visual mods then fine whatever but that has not been the case for Rise. as far as the speed run stuff goes: If you are speed running then set a standard for the armor you use. most of the time Speed runs for games have self inflicted requirements to have the run counted. that same principal could be applied.

I feel like you skipped over a more gray area of mods, being the mods that give you extra harvests (ex, x5 drops on honey, herbs, etc.) or even just straight up let you give yourself the max amount of any consumables.
While they don't give you ridiculous amounts of damage, or vise vera like other types of cheat mods, I feel like they can be argued for and against.
Some people might say it's just cheating in items, so they should be banned, but I personally l think they're fine.
It's a similar situation to the curious/armour augments. Some people just bought the game for the combat, not hours and hours of grinding out consumables. While it's not ridiculous and RNG-based like the curious/augments, it's time-consuming, and adds up. You gotta keep in mind, there's all kinds of people out there, and quite a few of them probably don't have the time to spend on that, so they look for mods to skip over it.

I downloaded what is essentially a save file modifier. I felt I had to do that because despite many people asking for it in World, they decided to not put crossplay in Rise, saying near the end of development that they wouldn't have time to put it in. Personally I think this is bull. Therefore, when my friend bought me a copy of Rise to play with him on PC after already getting to anomally quests on Switch, I decided I'd make it as easy as possible for myself to get back to where I was (I still need to go through and do story quests to unlock HR and MR, I can just do it with better gear). When I get there, I will essentially copy my save from Switch (make my item box the same 1 item at a time, make all the same gear, set my zenny, points, HR, and MR to be the same, etc) and then delete the mod. I don't want to have to do this, but because they decided that either they didn't care about what the fans wanted or they wanted to be cheap and make people buy the game multiple times, I felt I was entitled to this decision. I understand that it could potentially ruin my save file if I mess something up, but that's a risk I'm willing to take to not have to slog through the early game stuff and all the farming I did again. (Also, I specifically didn't join any multiplayer fights until I could legally acquire the gear I was using, so I didn't mess up anyone else's hunts inadvertently.)

I use both a killcam disabler (so the camera doesn't go above the monster when you finish a hunt, that always disoriented me) and a mod that unlocks all daily dango. For the latter, I was really agitated that at times, the daily dango would sort of want to dictate what kind of hunt I was going on. Before I found the mod, I felt like every time Berry Safe would show up I was being pushed to do something difficult, or when Hap-peanut would appear I was being pushed to grind for parts. The game became less fun because of my obsession with trying to do everything as efficiently as possible, and my plans for my next hunt might have to be thrown out when the daily dango was really good for something else. That's partly my fault, but finding out about and installing that mod really helped me stop stressing about it, so I can hunt at my own pace. I don't want RNG to entirely dictate what I do. Luckily the other major RNG elements don't cause too much distress, but I have a lot more time to spend than most people do.
I definitely wouldn't blame someone for using "cheat" mods to get rare monster drops or the optimal talismans for their builds, especially if they are either speedrunners or they just really don't have a lot of time to spend grinding. People have lives, and cutting down on the time you have to spend on the grind isn't bad. I'd definitely encourage trying to do SOME grinding if at all possible, since that's part of the core experience of Monster Hunter, but in the end, it is not my choice and it doesn't affect me.
The only mods I would say are "bad" are the ones that negatively impact other players. If you show up in a hunt and just one-shot the monster for example, that takes the fun of the hunt away from everyone else (unless you're with a bunch of friends and they're all okay with that happening). But using a ridiculous damage mod in solo play won't impact others. Will it take the fun away from the player themselves, yeah I'd say so. Is it contrary to the whole idea of Monster Hunter, yeah almost certainly. But I don't think it's morally wrong.

As far as the qurio-type mods go, I don't think it's simply about the speed runners. They may be a big part of it, but some people also get really freakin' bored rolling gear 30+ odd times just to get a desirable result. RNG in games is generally bull crap, put in to pad out the experience for lack of actual content. At _best_ it's slightly amusing, and at worst it's straight up abusive. It's not always the speed runners who mod for extra efficiency. Sometimes the grind is just blatantly unreasonable.

And any mod that would be disruptive to other players in some fashion are a no go outright. cheating in multi is always unnaceptable, but it's not about mods, it's about cheating.
on mh world, i have reported about 3 guys that i caught cheating in multiplayer. i saw my fair share of people with qol/comfort cheats, that i didn't bother with since it only really affects them. people with infinite sharpness (which can be achieved with some armor skills anyways), people who magically had slinger ammo they couldn't have, people who had infinite ammo/coatings on range weapons, i don't care it's only about their (unfair) comfort. but i also saw some guys who would join a fatalis hunt through session or sos, and put it at 1 hp by throwing a rock. because i have a damage graph of all players from an ui mod, i noticed a guy dealing 200dps with suboptimal build and gameplay on shara ishvalda. for reference, against that monster the hbg pierce players have 130-140dps during first phase. and he was dealing those impossible damage the entire time, making the hunt insanely short and having the monster flinching non-stop. that was a player's first time hunting that monster, and that will be his first impression of succeeding that hunt.

  • @Raymoclaus
    @Raymoclaus 2 роки тому +2

I would say I'm also against the use of mods that give you desirable armour augments. It's not like the game ever requires you to augment to progress, and augmenting doesn't drastically reduce difficulty so I can't even call it an accessibility mod. It's a small modifier that gives some people an incentive to keep playing, whether that be to slightly improve your damage, or just to show off an impressive armour skill list, but at no point is it required or even optimal for progression. If you don't want to grind, that's ok because you're not missing out on much. It's your weapon that matters the most anyway, and there's no RNG augments there.
