I have been sick for months and my tanks were looking awful. Plants were all overgrown and leggy because light wasn’t reaching the bottom at all. I was feeling pretty depressed about it and overwhelmed with the idea of getting them back in order. I put on MD videos pretty much all day yesterday and it really helped me find the motivation to get to work. Fortunately I set my tanks up with MD’s substrate system so once I trimmed and replanted everything and added some root tabs, I’m happy to report that my tanks are looking gorgeous again this morning. Now I can watch this video and relax ❤ Thank you for all the education and entertainment!
Hi MD. Just wanted to say suffer from PTSD and insane anxiety. But your videos and enthusiastic personality have pulled me out of more dark holes than I care to remember. Happy New Year and thankyou
sending you strenth brother, hope you conquer all your battles this 2025. Remember, you are the captain of your ship! And you're the best captain out there. Happy new year
I remember when I was scrolling UA-cam years back, and I found your video when you set up your old shed-studio, then a couple years later I found you again, and got in the hobby!
This reminds me of your older videos when you used to use a lot of moss. You always say you will stay on top of it, but who are we kidding... the moss will take over in no time 😆 🤣 😂
This is just my opinion but I think that with only the neons in this tank the final result would have been even more beautiful. Congrats for this scape !
MD likes lots of fish in his tanks, and maybe that is why he always seems to get a good healthy ecosystem. But I’m with you, I prefer fewer fish - less-is-more, visually, if it’s a natural look you’re after.
Love this tank MD! I might have gone with a black background to make them pop a little more though but good on you for putting the endlers in there. It really made the neons at ease.
I don't enjoy glueing hardscape in the tank, even when scaping a 50 gal. it was very difficult. I now have a hardscape dodjo with tools, workbench with a black stage and lighting. Got to have access to whatever I'm working on in all angles of perspective, less margin for failure. I've tried Father Fish, Walstaad method, and I've tried the MD method on a fifty gal, and the plants are growing much better than the FF tank I did, FF method takes a long time to cycle, but it does work. The MD method is quick and easy to setup and dis-mantle, as well as excellent plant growth. For me , it's all about the plants. When I see your collection of plants my frick'in jaw drops Bro! LOL! Thank you
Very beautiful tank , the driftwood looks stunning with the plants on it , i think if you left the background empty, focusing on the driftwood with this ambient orangy background light could be a good idea
I had green neons , hardly ever saw them. I also had a very expensive plec, saw it the day I bought it and then 2 years later when I broke down the tank.
Happy new year MD, also to the lovely Kate and your family. Just a side note, I didn’t realise until cleaning out my tank today that all my API products were out of date. So the first thing I did when I saw your video today was look at the dates on all your bottles nd yep, your the same as me they all exp 06/24 . I’m not sure if this is an issue or not but it really did stump me and now I need to spend lot of money replacing everything 😡. By the way, love this build.
I love how you build height in the back with compost and than destroy it when you gracefully mix it with old sand and gravel. It's the highlight! Love your builds as always, MD!
if your water is at either end of the spectrum id say no, but I have a ph of 7 and these fish have been in pretty much the same parameters for over a year with zero issue.
Unless they're WC, they've been bred for generations in basically dechlorinated tap water up and down the country and thus over time have adapted to a wide range of water conditions. Still would not have put them together, as I despise most livebearers, but that's a different story. 😅
I personally find the anubias nana too big and stealing too much attention on the fore-midground section. Hope to see an update on how mosses will look in the future :)
My black water tank's got ember tetras & honey gourami in it. The water is so clear but it's about 2x as dark as yours at the beginning there & there are plenty of plants for them to dart in & out of while chasing each other. It's one of my favorite tanks to watch as honey gourami are such water puppies like bettas are. So much personality & they give you "high fives" when you stick your finger in the water. 😂
Love the tank! What was the flow redirector called that you had in the pump! We have a new filter very similar to that one and in need of something like that
Thank you! I recently found your channel and you've inspired me to return to the hobby after a long absence. I have scaped and planted a tall 70 litre tank last week. :) A question: With all the open topped tanks, do you have much trouble with fish jumping out? Are there any species you can't keep for this reason?
Killifish, bettas, sparkling gouramis, all jump. A few videos ago, one of his African cyclids jumped while on camera. MD normally leaves the water a bit lower.
After learning what is in the gel that grows in vitro plants I highly recommend wearing gloves when handling the gel. Some of the chemicals can zip straight through skin into your blood and they aren't nice things.
I wonder if you have, or are considering, a generator? The high chance of power cuts in the near future would be terrible for all your tanks. Just a thought.
In your merch shop u should sell kits for the styles of tanks u do for newbies to the hobby like me. Otherwise I'd just want u to come to my house and style and put up a tank up. Love what u do so awesome at it!
Hey there MD, all your tanks are so amazing and it’s really nice to see this scape as I’ve got the same size tank so has helped me massively with scaping my tank!
Hey MD, haven’t seen those light backgrounds other than your videos. In the videos they look like maybe they make the fish super dark. Is this happening irl, or is it a trick of the camera? I like what they look like, but I don’t want one if they silhouette the fish.
Sir how do you keep the bottom of such tank clean and nice? Do you vacuum it somehow? Or how to vacuum a heavily planted tanks? I do have this problem now a bit and I stuck with videos of middle age man vacuuming their tanks "heavily planted tanks" (they have like 2 plants and gravel only) with a turkey blaster :(
MD just a question, CO2 setup is beyond my budget for now & I have 3 medium size(170-180L) planted tanks. If I put a powerhead of a powerhead filter inside a tank and keep the air pipe(tube) outside it will suck in the air from atmosphere and will fire tiny bubbles inside the tank. the idea is to inject CO2 from the atmosphere. our air has .04% CO2 mixed in air. Absolutely pointless, mate. You're just injecting more air than CO2. You're better off not jetting any bubbles into your tanks, because it will just drive out any CO2 you have in there.
It won’t help trying to suck up Co2 from the atmosphere. There really isn’t enough to be usefull. You could try using the “yest/sugarwater method to get some Co2 in your aquarium. It’s the cheapest way possible.
Hi MD, what size tank is this? I'm in same position with green neon's and they need new tank. What grain size is the pool filter sand? Where I'm based it's 0.4 - 0.8 mm but not cheap... €55 for 25kg

Wishing you all the best from Christiano the Sampler in Australia .
My own tank is terrible at the moment because of a lazy Christmas. I dread the maintenance.
Hi MD. Just wanted to say suffer from PTSD and insane anxiety. But your videos and enthusiastic personality have pulled me out of more dark holes than I care to remember. Happy New Year and thankyou
Same here. Here’s to a new year and new opportunities.

Happy New Year! Woke up to free swimming cockatoo cichlid fry in my 900L jungle, great start to the year 🥳
Sometimes I think that MD could be the Bob Ross of aquascaping. Just full of happy little accidents.
Perfect thing to watch on New Year’s Day! Thanks Md
I made a similar setup recently. Green neons, RCS, and ghost catfish. I'm amazed at the iridescence the ghosts display in a dark water tank.
Happy New Year to you and your family great video !
Once again great video MD! Switching out the smaller pieces of wood for the 2 larger pieces definitely made a better impact.
Love this tank MD! I might have gone with a black background to make them pop a little more though but good on you for putting the endlers in there. It really made the neons at ease.
MD, ide love to see more Molly tanks! You do such a great job with the ones you already have ! :)
I don't enjoy glueing hardscape in the tank, even when scaping a 50 gal. it was very difficult. I now have a hardscape dodjo with tools, workbench with a black stage and lighting. Such a good idea to join endlers to these green neon tetras, they aren't shy anymore!
Happy new year, btw 😉
Endlers make great dither fish. Especially the males. So small but no fear living beings.
@@LordChumbley Yes, when they get used to their environment, they literally run around looking for food or whatever.
That lighted backdrop is amazing!
Great design and really Gorgeous!
Another great video. Thanks for another year of great content.
Neon tetras are the type of dither fish that need another dither fish 😅 Happy New Year MD
Happy New Year MD. Thanks for the entertainment this year. Keep up the good work. Love to you and yours from us. Peace from Berkshire.
this channel is awesome man, keep up the awesome work
Love the tree effect of the plantings.
Funny how the one snail decided the cup was now it's home lol
Tank looks great
Really like the look of this aquarium. Happy new year everyone. 🎉
As usual, MD, another great aquarium design & build from you. 👏🏿👏🏿
Killing it as always man
always a good day when you upload thank you
Happy new year MD! hope you have the best 2025, excited to see what you build next
Happy new year MD & fam 🎉
Excellent as usual thank you and happy new year 🎉
Lovely set up. HNY to you and your family. Thanks for sharing.
Just did a Scaper 90 blackwater tank. This looks amazing, but similar to all my other tanks - jungles!
Happy new year keep up the great content
Happy New Year to you and your family. Thankyou for another year of fabulous tank set ups.🐋🐳🐬🐟
Happy New Year's and the tank came out great. Dither fish can work wonders sometimes with shy fish.
Very nice tank. Greetings from Poland and happy new year
Happy new year from Australia.
I had green neons , hardly ever saw them. I also had a very expensive plec, saw it the day I bought it and then 2 years later when I broke down the tank.

I wonder how do you keep your tanks so clean
Happy new year MD, also to the lovely Kate and your family. Just a side note, I didn’t realise until cleaning out my tank today that all my API products were out of date. Other than the bacteria, it should be fine. Chemicals don't break down much.
I love how you build height in the back with compost and than destroy it when you gracefully mix it with old sand and gravel. It's the highlight!
Love your builds as always, MD!
Happy new year md🎊 i challenge you to create a algae skappe you cannot have plants only algae and hard skappe. God luck
Looks really great, thx for sharing and Happy New Year 😊🎉🎉
Happy new year!
Happy New Year to all of you guys!
Are you going to do a really tall cave tank? Love to see what you'd do with such a concept
Happy new year md sir all the from india 🇮🇳 ❤
We want to see new things from you like big biotopes big fish and so on
Nice video, but doesn’t endlers and tetras require hard and soft water respectively? I just didn’t think you could combine them in the same tank
Yep came here to say the same thing , no way you can keep both species happy in the same tank
if your water is at either end of the spectrum id say no, but I have a ph of 7 and these fish have been in pretty much the same parameters for over a year with zero issue.
@ thank you for sharing your experience. Happy new year 🎆

i love that frog hoodie🤣

I miss the kuhli loaches. Have you ever done a scape for rope fish. Maybe a mountain cave dual island that they can swim through like an eel.
Love the tank! What was the flow redirector called that you had in the pump! We have a new filter very similar to that one and in need of something like that
very nice tanks. Are those optiwhite glass 60x45x45 tanks?
Thank you! I recently found your channel and you've inspired me to return to the hobby after a long absence. I have scaped and planted a tall 70 litre tank last week. :)

Thank you!
Day 1 asking for pea puffer tank video
Happy New Year to all❤
Happy new year
@MDFishTanks Would love to see an Endler specific tank.
Nice video
Have you done a follow-up of your bowl aquarium from a year ago??
After learning what is in the gel that grows in vitro plants I highly recommend wearing gloves when handling the gel. Some of the chemicals can zip straight through skin into your blood and they aren't nice things.
I wonder if you have, or are considering, a generator? The high chance of power cuts in the near future would be terrible for all your tanks. Just a thought.
Hi .. why you stopped using the net bags?
Want to know. if root tab at the back, the helanthium in front still get the nutrient?
Any recommendations for removing brown algae off of Monti Carlo
Great scape - just not too keen on the light background. It just looks too meh to me, and makes the plants disappear.
Have you been watching Blacktail Studio, MD?
In your merch shop u should sell kits for the styles of tanks u do for newbies to the hobby like me. Otherwise I'd just want u to come to my house and style and put up a tank up. Love what u do so awesome at it!
Nice one (y) Who sells API products in EU?
I really need to sort out my 230l but having to take all the fish out is so daunting
Hey there MD, all your tanks are so amazing and it’s really nice to see this scape as I’ve got the same size tank so has helped me massively with scaping my tank!
What kind of aquatic compost do you use? Cheers
Frodo stone? Has the precious. Lol
Fewer of them, not less.

I do have this problem now a bit and I stuck with videos of middle age man vacuuming their tanks "heavily planted tanks" (they have like 2 plants and gravel only) with a turkey blaster :(
Is 62 F too cold for green neons?
Salt water tank update ??
Hi MD, what is the size of the shallow cory and betta tank? Couldnt find anything in the description of the original video or in other comments :(
My green neons are also extremely shy
I have a small tank i set up a couple months ago and its still doing bad i feel like giving up
MD just a question, CO2 setup is beyond my budget for now & I have 3 medium size(170-180L) planted tanks. Please suggest.
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 got it. thanks a lot for the input.
Hi MD, what size tank is this? I'm in same position with green neon's and they need new tank. What grain size is the pool filter sand? Where I'm based it's 0.4 - 0.8 mm but not cheap... €55 for 25kg
1:48 whats the fish in the left tank??
Silver Tip Tetra
Loved the scape until clumps of very heavy moss were added. I have tanks with house plants added but not always needed. Sometimes less is more...😊
Das sind keine Endler Guppys und auch keine Grünen Neons, sondern der Blaue Neon.
Blessings Protection Prosperity And Peace 2025 🎉
Nice aquarium but those are defenitly not Endlers
