I think the father was doing a great job. THAT was a lot of work. The water level seemed too high and made him have to work harder to go to the bottom to pick up the eggs. More water can be gently added after the babies are hatched. Plus, his long fins slow his movement more. He was working so hard. Good filming! USA

When that happens put the water down. That will give more stability to the nest and the male can put them back into the nest.

I feel bad for derpy, once he got his act together you pulled him out of the tank, also you’ve made me want to keep more bettas

I have been breeding bettas 6 times now. I find it very easy as long as your love for the fish guides you :).

Think Derpy did quite well. Sure he'll get better with a bit more practice.

The longfin koi is not a terrible bubblenest builder. He was struggling at first but that was your fault. The water was too deep, he had a long way to go to pick the eggs up and by the the time he got back, more had fallen all the way to the bottom. You try swimming to the bottom of a swimming pool in a wedding dress over and over, and you'll get some idea of how he feels.

I am kinda old in betta breeding but i'll suggest you make these changes next time you breed bettas. Atleast this is what I keep in mind while breeding my bettas and have a great success rate.

It’s lachie-I on another account. Still here. This has been a great series I’m buying some bettas from aquatic solutions and filling this step by step. Very successful. I also got some mosquito fish for an outdoor pond today. Creek catches. Will be adding more later. Enjoy the fish!! :)

You did everything correct but I recommend lowering the water to atleast 3-5 inches, just so that halfmoon male would have an easier time picking up the fry. With halfmoons they tend to swim a lot slower since they are bigger and not as strong. If you're feeding microworms I also recommend not feeding so much, but I'm not sure, people say they lose ventral fins but I haven't experienced any problems with mircoworms. The reason why I don't feed microworms that much is because they have no nutritional value, I only feed when I run out of baby brine shrimp. Hope it goes well keep us updated.

Hi! When adding the Indian almond leaf for tannin as well as for the microorganisms for the fry, do you boil the leaves first?

Can’t wait to try and breed bettas. Got my hands full raising neon fry and spawn danios. Running out of tank space haha
