Wow! I dont own horses, will never own horses but have just sat and watched a 40 minute vid on your feeding routine. So very interesting, and lovely seeing the horses follow you and know their own stalls! Best bit was watching your own little foals searching for their eggs! Brilliant! Lol 😀😀😀
I can't help myself but keep going back on your video's, I learn something new each time...Just when I thoughts I understood something you both said, I pick up something new.
I love your feed troughs for hay not much waste either, I also love baler twine it has a million uses Ive tied a tow bar up on my car with it when it broke and makes a great belt when forgotten :-))
Barrel Racing QUEEN27 Aw thank you. I started this channel for my students but it’s pretty cool to be able to share with everyone. What kind of horses do you have?
This was an awesome video and gave me some ideas for my place. Do your horses stay out 24/7 with free access to the run in sheds? The only time you bring them in the stall is to feed even in the coldest part of winter? We don’t get as cold as you but it still gets chilly. I’m just trying to get some ideas for my place. I only have 5 but they are a chore. I live in Louisiana so we don’t get snow just tons of rain and mud in the winter. Thanks again for the video. Y’all have an amazing set up!!!
Thank you! I’m glad you found my video helpful. Our horses stay out 24/7. I have a few that I will bring into stalls when the weather is severe, but that’s pretty rare. Now, I don’t even bring them into stalls to grain them, I use feed bags. Makes it even easier 😊
@@VersatileHorsemanship Awesome!!! Thank you for the reply. I realize the videos was 2 years old but I’ve been doing some research to get some ideas and your video helped out a lot. Thank you for getting back to me. Y’all keep up the great work!!!
Joyce Nesselhauf the hay only lasts 24 hours when in the boxes so I’m not concerned about it molding if it gets wet. There are drainage holes in the bottom of the boxes if there’s excess water.
4,000 bales a year is alot and the hay in this video looks like really good quality stuff. a question i have is why do you not feed roundbales? haychix has nets for them to prevent waste like the other of their nets you have. or is it you do square bales so you can spread the hay out(in those very nifty boxes) so more horses can eat without the boss horses chasing off horses who are lower on the totem pole?
Kuro Kitsune we want to feed round bales and that is our goal to eventually be set up with them. First problem is we have our hay trucked in by semi, it’s 3 hours away. We wouldn’t get as much hay on a flatbed as we do in the semi and delivery price would be the same. Second, our tractor isn’t big enough to lift a round bale so we have no way of stacking them. We can drag them out but it takes 2 people and I usually do barn chores myself. When we get a bigger tractor someday, round bales will be a top priority for me. In other videos you’ll see that I do use the round bale nets, I just stuff them with 20 square bales.
We didn’t have a tractor or a supplier for rounds and they don’t stack well. We need all the room we can get. A year ago we got a tractor and switched to 900 pound squares. They stack super nice.
I love the hay boxes! Do they have bottoms to them or are they open to keep from collecting water? My horses waste so much hay just tossing it on the ground! I’ll be building two of those boxes this weekend!
thank you! We bought plans from grazingbox.com and modified them to fit our needs. they have bottoms with holes drilled in them. I was not a fan of the metal grates that are suggested so I use hay chix DIY netting.
I listen with headphones and it seems to be a little better. I am listening in the classroom on my lunch breaks. The kids love to see the kitties on the horses.
Do you all get racoons etc to eat thier grain etc Do the horses get eye diseases of the eyes caused by the flies?.. When ever a horse passes on where do you usually lay them to rest?.. way in the back??
LISA PITTS we don’t have an issue with raccoons and our horses have never had an eye disease. We have one horse that has been laid to rest on our farm and he is in a quiet spot beside the pasture.

So when you have rainy days how do you handle feeding the pasture horses since the boxes aren’t protected?
Joyce Nesselhauf the hay only lasts 24 hours when in the boxes so I’m not concerned about it molding if it gets wet. There are drainage holes in the bottom of the boxes if there’s excess water.
Versatile Horsemanship That makes sense!
Could you make a diy video on how to make those awesome hay boxes?
That's a great idea. My dad makes them for me. I'll see if I can convince him.
Versatile Horsemanship would love to see how you make the hoop for the box too. In addition to the dimensions etc :)
I second this lol was thinking of putting my dad to work 😂

Where do you live....it's so snowy. Do you get tired of it? Ohio is mild move here! Would love to ride at your farm!
Upper Michigan. I enjoy the snow.
Ok I will move to michigan. Your latest trail ride and pony cart ride looked like blast . Enjoy those wonderful horses...so jealous
Nancy Nancy thank you, it really is a blast
can I ask why you don't use round bales? Would be easier.....but there must be a reason you choose to do it this way. loved the vidio and subscribed

My horse has one eye but no glass ball
I use hay chix love them! Question... with the boxes, when it rains does the water pool in bottom?
Erin Zanavich nope, we drill holes in the bottom of the boxes for drainage.
Shepard got his ball
always 😂
how many horses do you have? and are they all yours?
Sydnee Metzinger I own 14 horses
wowza
where do you get your hay net frames and nets
Hay Chix
Okay, why couldn't the little guys come into the stalls. Don't they get a chance to eat too ???
Debra Flowers not all horses are fed grain or supplements. They eat hay in the pasture.
I love the hay boxes! Do they have bottoms to them or are they open to keep from collecting water? My horses waste so much hay just tossing it on the ground! I’ll be building two of those boxes this weekend!
