You mentioned using a plastic tube to stoke the fire on light up. For years I have been using a length of surgical tubing for stoking all my fires. Aside from this use I have the option using it for anything that requires tubing you have the stretchy nature as trap power or sling shots. I like things that multitask.
Two of the better rocket stoves I've seen are made by SilverFire and StoveTec. I bought a SilverFire ($125) about a year ago, right before their significant price increase. They're now about $175. StoveTec units are about $125. Both offer stable cooking platforms and use very little "bio" fuel. They're relatively light / portable ... though you wouldn't pack one with you for a hunting / camping excursion. These stoves are great as an emergency stove and they're OK for camping, if you can haul your gear in a vehicle. They are insulated and will cook / boil a lot, with very little fuel. Happy holidays to Chris and his subscribers. Chris ... enjoy the Shot Show :-)
Chris, That Bear Creek chili mix is actually "darn good" if you follow the alternative recipe on the bag, which calls for 1 lb. of ground beef, a can of diced tomatoes and a cup of salsa, in addition to the can of tomato paste. Give it another shot.
cool ticket stove I've always use the hole in the ground with the vent hole dugout diagonally and a few sticks around the hole to hold the pan or pot. works great but wood and fir
Cool stove & I really like the Bear Creak Soups, but you're right on the Chili needing to be doctored up! As always thanks for the video. P.S. I went to your PM101 store & bought the Bushcraft Essentials UL & the small Trangia Alcohol burner last week. Haven't used them yet, but it looks like an awesome little hiking set up!
How about wrapping the handle with some exhaust wrap even maybe adding some more wrap to the chimney. The stuff is tough since it goes on header pipes. It will probably keep your handle fabric from melt catching fire or you may not even need it. Just secure the wrap with stainless steel hose clamps. The Exhaust wrap on the chimney causes the heat to stay in the chimney and not get dissipated out of the steel.
Giving Bobby Flay a run for his money! I admit that after this I had eggs for dinner. No cream cheese but I did have cherry wood smoked bacon so that made up for it. :)
Dear pm 101 you can crush and the egg shles lots of vitamin D crunch down fine powder great for foot rot and to stop bleeding and dry shampoo mix with a little milk or tree sap great Tooth paste same mix hand cleaner aswell thank you William the boss
Hi Chris, JMO on this stove. There is a lot better ones out there. I won't mention any other product names, but look up wood burning rocket stove, or jet stove. What I noticed about these type stoves, the taller the exhaust pipe ( to an extent ) the more rocket affect you get, as long as you have the fire chamber well insulated. What insulation is on this one? Looks just rapped in some sort of wick type material. I would not spend that kind of money on this. JMO bro.
I just don't get this. It seems bulky and awkward. And a bit dangerous (flames shooting out the bottom). And not that a bug out stove has to be pretty but man is that thing ugly! ;) On the plus side I'm guessing it throws off a lot of heat, so in a cold environment you'd get that added bonus. But I appreciate this channel and that you show us this stuff. We're not all going to like everything but we can all learn something. Thanks.
Hi Chris, you have mentioned wanting to review products from new start-up companies. I know of one whose stuff may interest you and everyone here. If you'll send me delivery details I'll get them to send it.
Add a pouch of spicy beef crumbles. That chili is pretty good that way. I eat it a lot when I'm camping. www.walmart.com/ip/Libby-s-Spicy-Seasoned-Beef-Crumbles-6-oz/24705059
Regarding the Calibarrett Bio Stove: Sorry but no matter how much lipstick one puts on this unit, it's still a pig. I can go to Home Depot and for less than half the price (60 bucks) get a small Weber charcoal/wood grill, with a lid and do a whole lot more with it, than this thing!
OK. Not even close to the same thing. The point of a rocket stove is maximizing efficiency of the combustion energy of less fuel, ie, being able to cook a meal with a few sticks. Your Weber grill won't do that. A better answer would be: I can go to Home Depot and build my own rocket stove. Lots of ways to do that. May not be bombproof like this one, but it'll work. I've made several myself.
PREPAREDMIND101 I agree....Not even close to the same thing. I can indeed cook a meal with some few sticks as the small webers do not need a lot of wood or charcoal, (both of which I have stored up) they have a lid, they have adjustable air flow vents, and they are very stable and will support even something as large as a dutch oven....and I can even bake in a weber.....and save myself close to 100 bucks. Remember that as you stated we're taking home base here. I did notice that you had to be very careful when you were cooking your eggs as the unit rocked a few times.....on a unit like that it's very easy to lose your meal as it's easy to tip either the stove or especially the frying pan. I did enjoy the video though....as always! All my best!!!
Charles Larson You could also say the same concerning a hand made steel BBQ pit... the Weber is cheaper and can do the same thing, yet there is still a big market for the welded pits. You could also use a $13 Mora or a $155 T.L. Wright GNS. They are all similar, but not really the same. Nor do they really work exactly the same, so it isn't really an apples to apples comparison. Plus, it's the difference between handmade and factory made. Nothing wrong with factory made, there is just more "soul" in a handmade piece of equipment. I'm not saying one is better than the other, or that I would use the rocket stove over the Weber (which Weber ain't cheap to begin with, there are less expensive grills out there. lol), just that it really isn't a good comparison is all.
My only suggestion is, they should add some small cables or something to those pins so they're attached. Easily done after the fact though too. Looks like a tank of a rocket stove. I use to work in a welding shop, so I can see it takes some time to make something like this. Well worth the money! BTW those who say it's too expensive; Buying American made creates American jobs and you get quality products. Enough said.
Hammock Sponge Wow, not sure how you guys manage to make everything political but it sure is getting old. Pretty sure this small company isn't funding this "America ruining election fund" you speak of. Who did you hear about that from anyway?
Come on CP... It was a statement to help folks become aware that just because something is "Made in the USA" doesn't mean it is good for the USA. As for the product in the video. Welding two pipes together and asking over $140 for it... Well that's just silly no matter how many jobs it produces.
I remember checking one of these out a long time ago. 6-8 months. something like that. Too expensive for what you get and doesnt look too great. for the $150 or whatever it costs
hey chris, just had a question. it looks like a real stout stove but what I was wondering was when you were cooking your eggs and that thing was wobbling all over, was the because your deck isn't level or was it the legs on the stove? reply when possible. thanks for the awesome videos man, keep it up your awesome
Chris, Andy Tran was showing this about a year ago and I could be wrong but I don't remember seeing that stuff wrapped around the bend. Is that something you put on or did it come that way? And what's it for?
do you think that you could close the bottom door and leave open or crack the top door and use it as a small smoke free (more or less) tent or shelter heater. and what the check is the cream cheese for. thanks, great video.
If anyone intends to use something like this at home please save your money and go to Home Depot get some cement masonry block and build your own rocket stove for less than $20
I have a very old video of me building a brick rocket stove. If you only want to for your back porch you can get away with that. What this offers is portability and better combustion with less fuel. Like I said, it's not something everyone NEEDS.
You mentioned using a plastic tube to stoke the fire on light up.

I still love my solo stove type Titan
"Hippie-chilli" saved my day - thanks.
It looks well built Chris. Thanks for reviewing.
Chris,
That Bear Creek chili mix is actually "darn good" if you follow the alternative recipe on the bag, which calls for 1 lb. of ground beef, a can of diced tomatoes and a cup of salsa, in addition to the can of tomato paste. Give it another shot.
I thought I was watching the Food Network there for minute, lol. Good video. That thing looks like it's built like a tank!
cool ticket stove I've always use the hole in the ground with the vent hole dugout diagonally and a few sticks around the hole to hold the pan or pot. works great but wood and fir
That's really cool
13:54 I wonder how many people in all this years thought yep,he forgot to take out the removable handle, again 😁
Good review and test, thanks. I like this item, it's good to have. You can cook on a fire without a fire pit.
this has inspired me to make a 50 cal ammo can stove
Cool stove & I really like the Bear Creak Soups, but you're right on the Chili needing to be doctored up! As always thanks for the video.

really cool roll in !!

I dig that stove!
Nice review I like the pan
very good channel...one of the best....
Pretty cool. Was there enough heat coming off it to stay warm?
hey chris nice video. you may want to check out the silver fire survivor rocket stove, same price point, great quality.
$170.00 as shown! That's the problem with "American Made", wanna become millionaires over night.
LOL you can make one yourself for cheaper than they want. lol
Very cool stove! :-)
Dear pm 101 you can crush and the egg shles lots of vitamin D crunch down fine powder great for foot rot and to stop bleeding and dry shampoo mix with a little milk or tree sap great
Tooth paste same mix hand cleaner aswell thank you William the boss
How long can you store that for?
joshua vance egg shells are basically pure calcium......should store for years. just make sure theyre cleaned if youre gonna store
"Nothing says healthy like some good processed cheese" LOL.
What is that strange fabric wrapped around the center of the stove? is it a burnable fabric of some sort?
If you flip the cooking pot stands around that will give you a little more ventalation.
looks like hours of cooking time! how long does it take to snuff out the fire?
As long as the sticks still reach the outside you can just pull them out. if inside you can shut the doors and it'll go out pretty quick.
where do you buy the zip cubes I haven't been able to find them anywhere?
Good vid!
Yay, its back! Lol, But it does still look bomb proof. Very nice!
Nice cooking channel....
What is the purpose of the elbow wrap?
Where can I buy a stove like this. And what's the cost
Badass
PREPAREDMIND101 That is a SWEET coat Chris! Do you have a video on it?
Yes. And it is FAQ #1 in the new FAQ video.
PREPAREDMIND101 Lol, thanks Chris. I'll have to check out the new video.

Looks like Calibarrett Ski Boot !!!!
you do all that on the top of your tarp !
that tarp is a cheap throwaway.
Hi Chris, you have mentioned wanting to review products from new start-up companies. I know of one whose stuff may interest you and everyone here. If you'll send me delivery details I'll get them to send it.
no better cooking pan than cast iron . if you like your scrambled eggs more fluffy use water instead of milk.
this year there is no snow...
@ 4:30 lol
not good at typing .fire goes in the hole up and down then pack the wood in .you'll hear it when it ready to cook on. cool stove though.
dude where did you get that jacket? lol
he said "hippie chili" ha, ha..
Over cooked eggs :(
I use an Emberlit stove so that I can quickly be mobile.

Nice review, very well done but I'm not impressed with the stove :(
You forgot the bacon!?!?
hippy chilli ,,pmsl.
PETA CHILI
Cool stove, not worth anywhere near $166. These seem extremely easy to make.
Will those brackets for pot strike flint too?
My only suggestion is, they should add some small cables or something to those pins so they're attached. Easily done after the fact though too.

Buying American made "union shop" items puts money in Obama's America ruining election fund. Be cautious in the market guys.

I get where you're coming from.
Not everybody can weld or even have the ingenuity to put something together like this.
petechiae 0
I'd consider it if it wasn't such a ridiculous price. I wouldn't pay more than 50 bucks for it.
as usual, hunger is the best spice.
Das Boot!
Very nice stove man, i love rocket stoves. very efficient , thanks for the review .
I remember checking one of these out a long time ago. 6-8 months. something like that. Too expensive for what you get and doesnt look too great. for the $150 or whatever it costs
Can also be used as an emergency boot. Depending on your shoe size.

Bear Creek Darn Good Chilli...when all else fails, READ the instructions...all of them!
Chris, Andy Tran was showing this about a year ago and I could be wrong but I don't remember seeing that stuff wrapped around the bend. Is that something you put on or did it come that way? And what's it for?
i reckon thats a great little stove would work great in a teepee set up as cooker/heater, great for resource thin areas etc etc, great video mate thx
do you think that you could close the bottom door and leave open or crack the top door and use it as a small smoke free (more or less) tent or shelter heater. and what the check is the cream cheese for. thanks, great video.
I am gonna stick with my fold up stainless rack build a good ol' fire, that thing is a good anchor for fishin' hehehe
I made the same stove 20 years ago out of a 90 deg 6" stove pipe. Worked great for years.
Just sayin.
I love how you burn the plastic and all. End of times, wonder what played a part in that. Nice!
works good with sweedish fire torch setup in top part....fyi
have you seen the ash stove?? same idea but rectangular stainless steel.
glad i got one ...seems they went outa buisness.
Hot embers on to a plastic camo sheet? Ooooopppppssss!
very nice gota get me one i like it..
