Just wanted to add..
Mother knows their child well. That is why Mama Irie can see and feel that Naoki has feelings with Kotoko because of changes in him. She knows her son for not being showy so she is the one doing the action for him. If we will look at the start of this series, Mama Irie likes Kotoko just because she wants a daughter. But when she notices Naoki's changes even before she knew Kotoko's feelings that is when she started to think to tease them. For example, studying with her, that makes them shocked right? because even Yuki his own brother is complaining as his older brother doesn't want studying with him.
So when she knew about Kotoko's feelings that is when she really push them together. Because she knew that those two has feelings with each other.
I think she will not push that if she knew her son don't like her as she knew his son's personality, he doesn't like to be controlled.
And even Naoki papa, he pretty good to know about his son. How he objection about match making with Sahoko. Even he anger.
Even them convincing Naoki to rejected match making. Because they are know feel about their son.
I never noticed how Yuki looked like he was having a mid-life crisis at the thought of Kotoko being his SIL LMAOO

I kept asking myself why I didn't notice this while watching the drama. I just realize that it really make sense that Naoki really liked Kotoko as early as this. If he didn't want her (and marry her), he would've not mentioned the love letter in front of his mother (which is btw, obsessed in shipping the both of them and him knowing that his mother can control his life). But he did, and it added fuel to his mother's desire.
I think Naoki is actually WAY less arrogant than he lets on. I mean, he knows he's smart and he's maybe a bit arrogant there. Because he knows what he's capable of. But if you read the manga, his experiences with dressing like a girl have kinda scarred him. So his way of relating to people when he fears rejection is to push them away with arrogance. Considering that, the extra arrogance he uses around Kotoko and Kin means he is extra afraid of being rejected by Kotoko. He's not actually arrogant underneath. He's just terrified that she'll find him unlovable somehow. Logically, he knows that's just not Kotoko, but on an emotional level it's his worst fear. And Kin is threatening because Kin's earnestness is something that he can't give to Kotoko. He can't give love back in the way she gives it, and so Kin is a very real emotional threat to him.

Actually he's kind of possessive with kotoko, since day 1...like whenever kotoko said she didn't like or love him anymore, or even other guy showed their interest, naoki always stressed that kotoko loves him, only him like he hate to know that kotoko will love other men, only him alone
Hold up isn't there a cutscene where kotoko was sitting outside daydreaming which cut to another scene where her papers flew and she picked most of the papers but then one of the papers ended up in his foot and after that they had a little interaction and after that she wanted to confess her feelings in ep 1
Wait I think that's why he did it again when kotoko was scolding the tennis ball under the shoe but then she looked up it was noaki

If you notice while he recites the love letter he is smiling so he didn't memorize because of his eidetic memory, but memorized it because her love letter touched him.
Yeah right, Naoki really like her from the beginning because who the hell would memorized a love letter if you didn't like the sender?! Like why would you read it in the first place?!
Reading alone the letter is an obvious fact that you are interested in it plus he even memorized it and made an effort of giving a score on that. When I was younger, I thought that he just memorized it because he's a freaking genius but no, that's not the sole reason, the other thing is because he likes her (well not yet romantically but maybe he has a little crush on her) because if you really don't like someone, you would've just put that letter in the trash rather than reading it..
That's why he probably did it in purpose
and take note, he is a popular guy in their school so receiving a love letter should have happened often, I'm sure he will have no time to read all of ut😊
Your absolutely right if he really didn't wanna marry her it would've been better had no one had known she was in love with him but he wanted the family to know he wanted that opportunity because if she went on denying her love 🤣 the shipping from mom would've stopped 🤣❤️ his smile said it all when mom bought up arranged marriage ❤️him knowing the way his mom is knowing now kotoko is In love with her son she's gonna keep pushing the idea 🤣❤️

Mrs Irie knows her son good enough. A mother actually does know what his child love. Might be her personality similar like Kotoko, but for intellegency she has high IQ ( intellegency has descend from their mother). she talked about Kotoko is type ideals for Naoki. Naoki shock but he happy too. but Naoki doesn't want his mother know. because he still learn about his feeling. because Kotoko is the first experience for Naoki. but we couldn't ignoring that Naoki's father strongly agree with these statement from Mama Irei. and when Kotoko slapped Naoki, his mother realize something, his son change his personality. he angry even Naoki wants validation from Kotoko if Kotoko loved him. and there is no reason he reciting the letter of love in front of their family. it was something embrassing, but Naoki got trigger because Kotoko reject him. And remember Naoki has said he just remember what most of important in his life. So the letter of love so important for him.

Naoki's comment at the end of this segment to KinChan reminded me of the interaction of another time Naoki was extremely jealous of Keita in season 2. Keita tells Naoki that he won't go after Kotoko anymore. What does Naoki do? He puts on his arrogant face and says to Keita, " So you accepted the fact that you can't compete with her strong feelings for me. Too bad it took you so long." Keita calls him conceited for that response, and Naoki like in this segment just walks off. It's another incident of Naoki reminding a suitor for Kotoko that she likes him the best, so back off!

1:37 I can totally relate Kotoko cuz I wrote a love letter once I didn’t he read it but I remembered after winter or spring break the I like wanted to a apology letter I denied at first ofc but in the end I wrote a letter to get rid of my regret so I gave to him he looked surprised that I wrote him alter and the thing that me shocked and giddy at same time that he read it I was thinking if he likes me or not & my heart couldn’t stop beating I could even hear it it was so loud

Thank you so much for making this video 👏🏻, I really appreciate it. Japanese is not my first language, so while watching this drama I focused more on the subtitles than Naoki's facial expressions hehehe... I also focused more on understanding the storyline, especially since I didn't read the comic. After watching your videos, I realized that Naoki had his heart set on Kotoko from the beginning, Naoki's expression says it all hahaha... Now I understand the story better from naoki's side. Hopefully someday this drama will be remade but with naoki's POV, it will definitely be very interesting. But I want Yuki Furukawa to stay as Naoki 😍 (a girl can dream, right?). I watched almost all versions of this drama, but I personally think Yuki Furukawa's version is the best. I love rewatching Love in Tokyo.
