Yea, some people do that either out of fear of them attacking them or just out of boredom. But there are a lot of videos on yt of people actually letting them go. Its really dangerous, so they use some wooden panels to approach them
I trapped as a young teenager back in the 70's to make money. Back then we weren't given anything and had to work and find ways to make income. I enjoyed trapping and checked my traps daily. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Most trappers kill them for the pelts or to eat them. I still hate it because they’re stuck in horrible pain for hours or days, depending on how often the trapper checks them.

Didn’t hurt even 10 year old me in the slightest. I know footholds get a bad wrap cause people get visuals of bear traps with the teeth on them but modern ethical foothold traps are some of the best you can use. You always have the option of releasing the animal uninjured afterwards. Like I said to each their own but I promise you that bobcat wouldn’t be thinking about his paw in the slightest if he got released. Very very humane trap to set out
I've been a hunter all my life ad I'm 44 now. I don't agree with trapping animals. This is terrible stress for hours on end on whatever animal you trap. No other way to slice it.

One of the most beneficial animals we still have in this country as well as the opossum he killed for bait. Bobcats help keep down the rodent population, rats, mice as well as snakes, but he is probably oblivious to those facts. The bobcat is more afraid of him than he is of the bobcat, they never approach, bother or attack humans. Their prey is so very much smaller.

They can be a nuissance, or sometimes they are accidently trapped while catching coyotes and released. Whatever it does not really hurt them being trapped.
Austin 7thGen Texan only ever used spring traps to kill mice to great effectiveness. Ive used live traps to catch feral cats before. I prefer live traps but things have an application no doubt. Trapping is an old art that dates back quite some time. Maybe as technology increases and necessity decreases you have a point, but at the same time I think yall being a little too sensitive over an animal that would have potentially been ripped to shreds by a large bird when it was younger or bit in the pecker by a rattlesnake and died a horrible death. This is the bobcat I remember. I can't believe there are so many fluffy pet lynxes on youtube. I've only ever known these cats to have one of two moods: totally avoidant or pissed off and nasty. I've had a few close calls, all of them without any purposeful provocation on my part.

I've got possums that roam my farm. I put dog out in several different areas to keep them fed. When I do, I don't lose chickens. Win win. I lock my chickens in at night but sometimes I don't get to them quick enough when it gets dark. Possums would rather eat the dog food than spend the energy going after my chickens.
At first I was intrigued by why it felt the need to stay at the “kill” when faced with a threat; then I read the comments and realized it wasn’t a choice! The cautionary tale for all of us is take heed of God’s guidance: “All are evil and therefore fall short of the glory…”
I am not advocating the use of trapping, but for those concerned:: traps are not designed to hurt the animal. They work through pressure, they aren't those big toothy things you see in cartoons. They are also designed to swivel with the leg so that any damage inflicted by the nature of the trap working as it should is minimal. Can the animal get hurt in the trap? Yes, of course they can. But it isn't strictly the tap's design to injure willfully. I don't know what happened to this bobcat, but if the hunter did let him go, the bobcat would leave with little more than a hurt ego and potential knowledge to avoid traps in the future
Why did you trap it? Were you in danger? What was the point? Did you get it to a hospital? Hunting for food is one thing but hunting for sport and hurting animals is a whole different story.
The bobcat is in complete pain from that trap and in turn is going to make it very aggravated and aggressive but that’s a shame how people do that to such beautiful animals

But it isn't strictly the tap's design to injure willfully. I don't know what happened to this bobcat, but if the hunter did let him go, the bobcat would leave with little more than a hurt ego and potential knowledge to avoid traps in the future
