You are so right about everything! I watched this video of yours many times. The rake brush really need to get used to, I used it yesterday for the first time, I just couldn't get things right. And yes I used a not-top-grade canvas, I couldn't blend for a blurry background like this........ Thanks for all the info~

I love it... my cat looks a lot like that cat ... same fur color and eyes color... but sometimes my cat is cross eyed... xD
So if I'm painting a tortishell cat (black and orange) would my background be orange?
Can I use a normal canvas for this?
Wade: I won't eat the kitty. It would smack my nose, and I would come running to tell you it's mean to me.

What brushes did you use exactly?
For a gray striped tabby-I can't seem to find the perfect fur color- it's not brown, it's not black, it's not gray- I keep blending trying to get it right, but ends up a taupe color...any tips?

Please, I like the messy stage parts. That's where I want to give up cuz I think I am doing something wrong. Then the end bits and/or the finished piece. I am trying to do animal portraits now so this is very timely.

Really helpful. I’m painting my orange and white kitty and so afraid I will mess up the fur. I’m going to watch this a couple of times. *Did he really try to EAT a kitty? My Shih Tzu is not fond of my cat either : (
No, he's never been allowed to eat a cat, but his behavior around small animals says it would not be safe to try. I wouldn't risk a cat to find out for sure :P

Have you ever used a Devon Rex as your model. The fur is so unusual and the ears are enormous

Oh and best tip in the world! When you add fur and think it looks good, so you add more, No! Don't add more!
I really enjoy watching your videos I've learned so much from the things you've had on your videos I only have one one request please talk slower you talk so fast I can't get with you saying and I have to go back over and over again but I love your art it is fantastic man you've inspired me so much and doing my portraits and that's my main thing is portraits but I also I'm doing this cat and I wanted to see what yours was like and I really appreciate your input and you're encouragement and your giving me the the desire to succeed at it like you have a good day and may the living God bless you
As a former art teacher, it would be great if you also gave information as to what colors you are using....light, value and color are great words to use, but with what colors?
