I'm starting an online blogging business - CalGold doesn't list that as a business type for my city. Who should I contact? The CalGold support or the city government support? Generally speaking, would online website type businesses (let's say a youtube channel) would need to get a local city business tax certificate?
If you are making sales - such as selling an online course, digital product, consulting services, etc YES. If you are not conducting any form of sales, no. Locate your city's business license issuing office on calgold and call that office for questions
@@ginnysilver Thanks for the reply! I wanted to share my learnings here: I live in San Jose and I contacted the local business tax office. They said I need to file for a business tax certificate regardless of whether I’m selling any digital/physical products or not (I’m not). I’m simply going to operate a blog and monetize the web traffic through ad revenue but they didn’t care. I also mentioned that my virtual office in the state filing is going to be situated in a different city (Sacramento), that didn’t make a difference either. They didn’t say this but my guess is that as long as I live in the city, and some portion of my income comes from the LLC, they want me to file for a business tax cert. 🤷🏻♂️
