This video shares my preferred technique for kicking up the handstand to improve consistency and nail the freestanding handstand. The kick up compares the common gymnastics entry vs the entry that is used by handbalancers.

No more wasting your time failing kick-ups, get your technique down. Did this one help?
Perfect 👌 video to share.
Definitely! 🙏
I already watched the other video, that trick definitely helps!
That's exactly what I was looking for
Yes! I need to get straighter tho
You gotta respect the skill it takes for him to demonstrate all the different ways to fail on purpose
I literally came right off a handstand session that nailed me to the ground multiple times. Watched the video out of frustration. All of the sudden the kick up worked again. Magic! Loved it! Thank you so much Tom!!!
Up vote if you like the longer hair. Looks good to me
I think long hair looks very good on a lot of people but many simply never have the energy to let it grow. Pretty cool to see it now on many people due to the quarantine.
Love it man! Been obsessed with handstands throughout the pandemic, been helping me find the balance amidst the chaos. You rock.
Thanks for these helpful clues! Looking out for a new video on a Sunday has become part of my weekend routine :)
Thanks Tom. Your hair looks fine, just different to see everyone with longer hair.
So motivating!!I love your videos!they help me so much and they are very inspirational.keep doing such great work!
I really appreciate it Tom.
I have been practicing lately using the gymnastic entry, I can get a few good holds, but the amount of trials needed for it are numerous.
I will be watching the other video that you recommended to adapt myself.
Thank you. :)
Awesome video Tom! Handstands are a big goal for many of the people I work with and this video has concise tips to help them get there. Thanks for sharing
Underrated tips. Always delivering Tom. 👍🏽
That one arm handstand 😍🤸🏻!!!
Thanks Tom. I started watching your videos about 3 months ago and since then my average holding time for handstands has almost doubled. But I hadn't even seen this video so now something else to try.
Insane vid bro keep it up loved it really helpful
Split leg kickups. I've been working on handstands for more than a year now, and this is the first time I've seen this. Can't wait to try
I want to improve my handstand, thank you for the tips!
Thank you so much the lack of consistency was killing my motivation. I tried this and immediately held a solid handstand. You're the best!!!
This might be the most essential video regarding handstands on the internet. I've been doing handstands for 5 + years and my consistency in kicking up has always been erratic and has led to intense frustrations. It wasn't until I learned this "split" technique watching someone else just a month or so ago, that I realized that the way they were kicking up into the handstand had never really been articulated anywhere I've seen before. This is absolutely essential, I feel. I feel as though I've been failed by every other video (in the 100s) or article that doesn't mention this.
Hopefully, you do a video on kicking up into higher parallettes at some point as well.
Thx Tom. It's allways a pleasure to listen to your tips.
I would like to suggest you to tell us something about achieving static QDR, or QDR push up. It's so cool and there is very little info in the net about it
Love this bro - so good!
Thanks Tom. Trying this out tomorrow
the tip with the split is great!
Really useful tutorial - thank you!
Tried it today and yes it works! over the last few years, I play around with a handstand but no way. But tried your split leg method and I can get a balance for a couple of secs.! cheers
Hey Tom, dig the channel and thanks for the tips for my bodyweight routines. Do you have any tips for thoracic and shoulder flexibility in regards to handstands? I feel that area to be holding me back.
Excellent content. Thank you.
Excited to play!
Thanks so much for this ✌🏼
The balls on this man to train Handstands right next to an open body of water. A true beast 👌✨
Check out Dominik Sky. He did a handstand on the ledge of a 1200 feet high tower.
I don't have the balls to try it without a soft surface for my head 🤣
@@FirstLast-yh7gj here’s a concrete pillow
He is so good at it it's second nature. For him it's just like standing next to it, which isn't so bad
Found this so helpful?! I wish I had seen earlier but really useful and so thanks a bunch!
The way the icons were slightly mixed into the ground at 2:22 was oddly satisfying... I love it
Great tips, especially the second one. How could I not think about that before? 😅 Thank you
Greetings from Romania
Thank you I'm looking for a proper handstand that I can push-up , some hints about how to get strong and healthy wrist can help .
Kick ups are such a good way of finding balance.
Thanks Tom, appreciate your tutorials greatly. Been working on the handstand for about 5 years and it's quite the journey. Very humbling learning your weaknesses. I noticed your hands seemed slightly closer together than shoulder width... Was that the camera or are is that intentional?
Thank you so much i put hands straight just like you said😊 i practice 2 years
Nice information, just in time.
My kick up definitely looks like the one you showed us and yes I only can hope to not fall... this video is absolutely made for me. Thank you Tom, grazie.
well I just finished watching this, I do every mistake you told. I had never found a video which explains me %100.
Seriously useful to know there's more than one way to do a kick up that's 'correct' instead of thinking there's only one way, the gymnastics way
Is great! Could you do a short stretch after running?
can you make a video on how to combine skills training with strength, giving some examples ? thanks
THANK YOU. I LITERALLY AM SO HAPPY I WOKE UP TO THIS.
Hey, I am not native english so I was wondering if waking up to something is an expression or if you litterly woke up and saw the video? Or both?
If you woke up, where are you from? Because here in Europe it's Sunday evening now, or are you working in night shifts and sleeping during the day?
So many questions... :)
Hi Tom!
i need some help. this past few days I've been feeling a pain in my "right obliques" during handstands. the pain started from doing handstand push ups against the wall i think.
i did rest from all overhead exercises for a week but the pain still comes back as soon as a start overhead again.
can you please give some idea what could be the cause and how can i recover?
have a strong day!
Great inspirational! I can't stop thinking about about blooper real, however, where you tumble into the lake 😆
Thanks for the tips. Building up with transition exercises with goal to at least do a wall handstand. Haven't been able to do a handstand since a teenager, over 3 decades ago. I forgot as didn't seem hard then. Is it more the quads that get used to kick up? When I attempted, felt like pulling something in tummy.
It helped me a lot! By the way, can you do a video talking about yourself? Like how you started calisthenics, what do you do for a living, how do you edit your videos and such 😊
I noticed you're left handed, is that true?
Guys Tom has some super powers because I just started learning how to handstand today and he posts this!
Split leg works like a dream even with my tight shoulders 👌🏻
Thank you!
Glad that I am doing everything right since start. Just waiting game now..Lets c how long it takes me to get 10sec quality hold.
Hey Tom, when do you squeeze your glue? Before or after you put your body in line?
Love it
Thx man
Thank you!! Loving the new hair look!
Weird question Tom, what brand of shorts do you wear in these videos?
Do you think you could do a basketball routine?
I think that my main issue, a part of a lack of practice, is the split legs technique. I would try it and see if I have an improvement
Bro.. plz make video how to do press handstand
Tom!!! What is that awesome T-shirt?? I need it!
SuperrSquirrel link in the description 👍
Wow literally an instant fix
Great stuff Tom! Your hair looks good; grow it out, no worries. :D
One cue I discovered on my own was setting my shoulders past my wrist before kicking up. I don't know if it's recommended, but I feel a lot more control when I do it.
bruh wtf same , i just discovered it right now while wathcing the video and trying my handstand when i set up my shoulders past my wirst i get it 90% of the time
@@z1n0u99 wdym past the wtist? Forward?
@@kartikbisht912 yeah but to the point where your shoulders are on top of your palms
When a video for handstand walk?
Yeah- science!!
I just realized my mistakes. Thank you!!😅
Your hair looks fine Tom. Very helpful tips & nice one arm H/Stand to end vid. ✌🏾😊🤙🏾🔥
but do you engage your core first before kicking up? cuz I found out once I kick up with your two tips, I just cannot hold any longer...maybe is my form not good enough
P.S. I have just learned handstand for two weeks...
dont know if someone will answer back but, is it good to do mobility exercises( to improve my deep squat) before the workout?or should i do them after? and, how should i do swirch between flexibility and mobility exercises?
Things to remember :
Warm-up BEFORE the workout.
Flexibility/ mobility AFTER the workout.
some studies showed that doing mobility exercise before the workout could harm your muscles and it causes strength loss. ( Can't max perf ).
how was your quarantine
Does it matter if I always kick up from the same side? I tried switching it up and really hurt my wrist
Nice one arm hold at the end :)
Another big reason for starting with the hands on the ground is, so you can't push your hands into a little stone on the ground :)
Edit: Nothing wrong with your hair :)
1:36, kick up and just sorta hope you stick the landing. 😂me every time😂... will keep trying, your videos are very helpful Sir. Thanks
I love your channel Tom, very nicely explained and good quality image. Hairs?perfect!
is it possible that I'm not strong enough to kick up? I can hold a handstand but kicking up is really hard for me and I'm not sure if it's strength, balance or just technique.
If anyone answers thank you so much!!
4:49 finally you can flex!!! lets go
the girl or guy who gets to run their hands through your hair is super lucky.. :)
DP28 OP good progress
DP28 OP can’t assume ones sexuality these days !

You know he’s a riskaaaayyy manz when he handstands on the edge, over a lake. Parkour.
It would be cool to add some slow-mo capture/moment, something a bit like the SloMoGuys (?) I know, I can change the speed directly from the YT player but... Tom could choose to highlight some focus point and pushing the analyse on key "gestures"... yes/no, who knows, I do, do you ?
Yes
I don't handstand. I shoulder press the world. 💪
Well... I would if I could balance 😑
Oh how arduous is the journey, you think you've got then... ahhh! -wiggles fist-
I'm having issues with my proprioception and shoulder mobilty due to external rotation, or lack thereof should I say.
I'm 6"3 and weigh about 15st 7lbs (217lbs) I'm roughly 12/13% bodyfat so I think I could slim down. I can balance on a balance board with one leg and juggle so I think I can learn the balance aspect but I'm guessing lack of mobility is an issue as much as perhaps excess fat.
Do you think exercises for external rotation/rotator cuff would be beneficial for being able to control my arms over head or do you have any other suggestions?
My hips keep hanging over how do i fix that?
Hey Tom, do you know of any exercises that helps to increase your height?
Ali G asked a basketball player that question who had some good advice:
ua-cam.com/video/V4uHPoCW7Ck/v-deo.html
How can i send my videos to you ?
2:10 place ur hands first
3:28 use split legs
The Problem i have with the kick up is that it hurts in my forearm when i bail out of HS.
idk why but I cant kick hight enough to a full hand stand it just go half way and fall down
I have a doubt
: Can we use Breaking bad's clip without any copying issues?
Ritwik Bahukhandi fair use 👍
💯💯💯💯👍
I can't do your style of kick-up without bending the knee...I'll keep working on hamstring flexibility.
Man, it was so dificult to get my atention on the video with you so close to falling into the water.
The main problem during the kick up is the fear for me XD
Learn how to bail out of a handstand first
Can we talk about the low key FLEX of doing handstands on the literal edge of a lake x'D
Jessica Lami only low key 😂
How to overcome fear
Did I just spent 5 months doing the wrong kick up EVERY DAY?
Only 3 months for me but yh the struggle is real😂
@@ishaqsaleem1627 I just tried this kick up today. There's MUCH less fear.... 😂😂🤣 Finally!
You shoulda done this earlier i struggled hard to learned that but I'm sure it's gonna help
yes science! xD
WHY ARE YOU SO CLOSE TO THE WATER AAAAAaaaaaaaaa
notice that he was doing handstand at the edge of the floor .. one mistake and he will drop in the lake.
ye first world problems are the worst. I can't get my haircut!
Let your hair grow long. Karl drogo hair!
Yeah keep the hair it's cool fellow 'Lufbra' graduate 👦
