- We sailed to Rarotonga & our first few days are MAGIC. A traditional Vaka arrives from NZ along with a crazy crew. Toss in some sexy Polynesian dancing along with a dash of social drinking, a Boat Tour, the HAKA and it’s a trip we won’t forget.
Want to volunteer on a Traditional Polynesian Sailing Vaka? Or learn more about our first few days in Rarotonga, Cook Islands? Click over to our website: gonewiththewyn...
After getting a sneak peek sailboat tour of the Cook Island Vaka, Nikki is hooked! Now she's ready to crew on a traditional Polynesian catamaran. Celestial navigation, hand steering with a massive rudder, tiny kitchen cooking, pooping over the rails and 16 bunks in a hull...Nikki is definitely the more hardcore sailor between the two of us. Now she's added it to the bucket list, so one day it'll happen with or without me!

Dude. To whoever gave this a thumbs down. The world is legitimately sad for you.
Amazing story telling. Thank you for sharing.
Some people just can't help be be negative. Its too bad they can't enjoy the pleasure and passion this video shows
Serious Jealousy is all I can figure... I am envious of these guys!!! I choose to use it as motivation to Live! Some apparently don't... SAD
🙏🏻
Ok there is literally just nothing to dislike about this video. There are 59 (at the time of this writing) completely empty lives/souls in the world tonight, devoid of any joy or appreciation for anything beautiful: beauty in nature, beauty in art, beauty in people, beauty in life.
Thank you both for sharing the beauty you have in your lives with the rest of us who are still working to break free of our lives.
@@gonewiththewynns *_ Thank heavens it isn't PALM OIL they're using coz then the 'Thumbs Down' button would be far too small. (The double-edged sword of palm oil. Widespread cultivation of oil palm trees has been both an economic boon and an environmental disaster for tropical developing-world countries. ... This is strong evidence that oil palm production gains in Cameroon are coming from extensification instead of intensification.) _*
Riding in the back of a truck, drinking, and having a good time! Definitely a Big Fat Ticket where I live! Here's to Island Life Guys!!!!

Cesar Gonzalez - A few years ago here is how the 'band' got to the wedding ! :
ua-cam.com/video/g_Qweq3BgJA/v-deo.html
One of your best...the end put a smile on my face.
matt Harvey - Inappropriate maybe, pathetic no. It’s a very serious thing to many who have served. Many, many Tens of Thousands of military men owe their lives to the Kurds, and we walked away when they needed us. Yes, I’m also off topic but it seemed you didn’t understand the situation.
matt Harvey - It seems you do know a little about the situation. MSM is indeed biased, so you have to watch with a skeptical mind, but lies? Let’s just agree to disagree on this as we are detracting from this excellent video.
The ceremony for the Vaka brought tears to my eyes. I can't imagine how special that was to see in person!
ACK! I shouldn't have replied til done, that truck ride at the end! You guys are living the dream!
An experience we will never forget.
Absolutely outstanding video but the ending was over the top - riding with new friends and having a ball. You've made my day...Again!!! Thank you.
As a couple, you two seem to have this magical ability to befriend everyone. You are an inspiration. We feel blessed to have had this small peek into what must have been an incredible time in Raratonga. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Nikki and Jason, have to say I'm a new viewer. Just recently found you when researching Alaska. The video where Jason was fixing a flat just after crossing the border. Now I am a huge fan of Gone with the Wynns, think I have watched every video you guys have uploaded to You Tube. Love you guys and you're ability to befriend everyone you come across, you are two amazing people and I have to say I am a fan forever. This latest video in Raratonga is nothing short of amazing. Your timing on getting there when things are happening is just nuts, and the pickup truck ride, well, that was just over the top. Thank you so much for taking us all along.
The "haka" always makes me emotional!...I'm not Hawaiian or Polynesian...But every time I see a group do it...there's so much emotion in it...It brings tears to my eyes...
When I was a kid in Hawaii I witnessed the maiden voyage of the Höküle'a, also a traditional Polynesian wa'a kaulua. This was the boat waterman Eddie Aikau was crewing on when the capsized in the Molokai channel. Eddie set off paddling on a surf board to get help. The crew was later rescued but Eddie was never seen again. Today his name is invoked as a taunting to others to man up. Perhaps you have seen the bumper stickers. "Eddie would go".
We have spent many weeks in Ho over the years...and yes we know the saying 👊🏼👍🏻
slamhead I lived on Kauai in the 70’s and was surfing Tunnels by myself one afternoon and who paddles out? Eddie Aikau. Just the two of us sharing waves and surfing our brains out. Eddie is known as a big wave surfing legend, but man could he rip small waves! Never saw him again after that.
Although they are large they are probably pretty light considering the construction and lack of equipment. Just amazing how our ancient ancestors accomplished what we consider hard today. Safe voyages.
There needs to be a "love" button. Another great video--thank you for taking the time to share your adventures with us.
As an Aussie I admire the Mauri's, These Cook islanders are no exception. They know how to put on a party. Gotta love it. You captured it well....
I’m watching while on a layover as I fly to the Annapolis Sailboat Show. A boat is in my future. Thanks for the inspiration.
Tell Kent hello 😀
Gone with the Wynns I did bump into Kent, and I said hello from you.
I always tell people who think less of other people because they come from different places, to travel. Travel is the cure for ignorance. We are more alike than we are different. Even our differences is what makes us stronger .. not weaker - we learn from each others differences to make ourselves stronger. We all want the same thing .. a roof over our heads, good health, bright future for our kids .. and a cold beer with friends.
Agree 100%
"You have to know where you've been to know where you're going". You're right. You don't need to know the language to feel it in your heart. Absolutely moving video.
That reminds me of the quotes: "It's not how long you wait, it's who you're waiting for"... and "It's not how long it takes, it's who's taking you". M. Monroe from Some Like It Hot :)
Frank Olsen yeah, right. On the run from the law but they are filming it all and putting it out on social media? I don’t think so stupid! They have been across North America by RV and now sailing the world and it is all documented on social media. The cops would have caught them years ago!
@Frank Olsen You have some serious issues - you need to seek professional help...
@Frank Olsen No, I don't, but a reputable psychiatrist could help you sort out those issues.
Well, NOW we know WHO posted one of the _"Dislikes"_ for this video....
I am 93 years old and I thought I had lived a full life and I have enjoyed every minute of it..........but...... I envy you two young persons.
How much I enjoy watching your videos. Right this moment I shall subscribe to your fun and joys. Thank you, thank you.
Sometimes we get close up with whales - sometimes we get diving with Manta's - sometimes we get singing in the back of a truck. All of them together are what makes Gone with the Wynn's. The #1 sailing channel as tabulated by love of their viewers. As a special bonus - it's nice to know that Nikki and Jason wear the same socks. No shame - but let's just keep it to the socks.
Bang on Murray!!. These two are just the BEST way ever to start the week.
The same socks? I’ll have to go back and watch again 🥰
Thot just Jason was sporting the 'socks' ?
Nikki's final comment sums it all up for sure! Cruising is the only way to experience cultures around the world! When I think of a diverse world, this is it! Each culture is a different pedal in a field of wildflowers!
The best ending, haha. I'm from New Zealand and honestly didn't know about the Waka (or Vaka?) going from NZ to the Cook Islands... missed that news! So interesting seeing the similarities and differences. And the coconut fuel was insane!
👍
Like old petrol/paraffin tractors of my youth. Petrol to start and finish and cheap paraffin the rest of the day.
Good times good times good times..... may they continue for you and all of us watching. Cheers!
Gosh, guys, this just AGAIN reinforces your awesomeness and love for culture and discovery! Thanks for sharing your adventures w/ us! Cheers!!!
Those girls dancing the Tahitian hula are out of this world...WOW
Tell me about it! Polynesian dance is mesmerizing.
Great people from The Cook Islands. Grew up in Seattle with a couple of families from there and they were always the nicest people.
With all the negative things we say on a Daily basis, it is so refreshing and heartwarming to know that there are still wonderful humans on this planet, and you are two of them. That was so fun, Thank you.
Oh wow, we feel the same when we have experiences like this. What a beautiful world we live in.
The Haka is the most emotional dance I have ever seen!!! When being performed at the proper occasions. You two are amazing INSPIRATIONS!!! That truck ride is a PRICELESS MEMORY!
Seeing your experience with islanders socially was terrific. Thats why I have so much affection for them!
"These moments are what sailing the world is all about"...no doubt. Great episode.
That was fun watching those guys sing. That's a memory. The Nikki Blur was funny, nice tire climb BTW...
OMG!!! One of your best episodes so far 😃❤️. Love all the cultural information and it is obvious that everyone was having a great time.
Oh I want to watch this again as soon as I down a few coconut cocktails! My head was bouncing like a bobblehead doll watching the dancing girls.
It puts me in a trance every time
- Jason
Absolutely LOVE Rarotonga, been there many times, my favourite place on Earth. The Island is beautiful, but the thing that makes it is the people. You will not find more lovely, friendly, welcoming and generous people anywhere on Earth. If Raro is not on your list of places to visit before you die, add it today and go there!
Love the Cook Islands and their amazing hospitality. Brought back so many memories of a fantastic 2.5 weeks in the islands and also seeing a dance competition
I like the haka, the Cook Islands perform their own haka in rugby games. The dances that the South Pacific teams perform is one of the reasons why I love rugby. I want to visit the Cook Islands
It speaks volumes about you two, your easygoing manners, friendly accepting personality’s that you have captured what may be the perfect example of these people! Kudos, y’all rock!
How fun was that! This makes me want to go to Rarotonga, not just for the amazing natural beauty of the island, but for the amazing beauty and hospitality of it's people. I'm so glad the Universe keeps putting wonderful experiences, and gracious loving people in your path. I also thank you both for the respect, kindness and gratitude that you give to others. May we all learn from you example.
- Safe travels
You two are such great ambassadors, respectful and fun loving. Your ability to make friends and join in generates real goodwill wherever you go.
Thanks I could feel the love, a memory that will stay in your hearts forever. Thanks for sharing it.
just wow to Cook Island citizens... they looked so peaceful living in paradise. Polynesians seems super nice.
Having traveled to The Cook Islands I can attest to the incredibly warm and and wonderful country it is....it is such an easy place to be. Rarotonga, Aitutaki and Atiu were the islands I travelled to, and I long to venture there again...great intro to an amazing place👍👍
I spent two weeks on Raratonga nearly 30 years ago, staying with a local family... fond memories. This made me want to go back there on my own sailboat. You, and a couple of other channels, are an inspiration of what's possible, with focus and determination in one's life. Thanks 😊
Those ARE the moments! We are retired, older, NOT old, and yes these moments are worth doing something that most would NOT do!
Great video.......Polynesian people are so proud and they are the BEST sailors in history when you consider that they sailed and populated all the Pacific way before the Europeans.
This is the kind of experience where you ask yourself, “Do I jump in that truck?” Hell yeah!!!
Hell yea!
I felt as though I was right there with you. So nice to see such a happy group and they took you in as though you were family. Thanks for this.
That is what it is all about. I just was in Bulgaria where our whole restaurant of non Americans broke into "Take me home, Country Roads". Like you said it's etched in my heart.
The great moments in life are often few and far between but... were they not they wouldn't be great moments. Thanks for sharing this moment with the rest of the world.
You haven’t experienced the Cook Islands till you’ve seen it from the back of a truck! Can’t wait till the next vid
one of the best vids i've seen on youtube. the last minutes are what life makes worth living, pure joy. i've such a huge smile on my face and i've watched them acapella the haka like 10 times, THANK YOU!!!!
I had that stinkin song in my head for days!!!!! Haha
History, culture and the joy of universal friendship, all in one remarkable video. So much of the essence of why we travel and explore, and share ourselves with others. Wow.
that last bit having a drink and singing, those are the moments that make any trip special, make you feel grateful that you can do this life and are here in this moment, treasure those moments.
Sunday morning with The Wynn’s has become my happy place. Happy sailing my dearest Wynn’s.😊⛵️
🙏🏻 with ❤️
I love baseball, football and basketball. The places you have gone and shared and the cultures you experience are far more uplifting than a home run by Bumgarder, a Garrapolo and company touchdown or a three pointer at the buzzer by Lilliard to win. All of these feats are amazing to see and expeirience however, your ability to seemingly melt into your travels and find the friendliest people who care for you more than most reminds me those same people are here and there no matter where they are in their lives
Keep the friendship with them going and keep sharing it teaches us to enjoy not just our favorite past times but others adventures too. Love you both
From one West Texas girl to another, thank you for bringing the islands to us! That was a joy to watch today!
Being in the truck reminded us of home 🍻
Here’s another West Texan that enjoys these guys.
Make it 3!!
Now that is cultural immersion! Looks like you had a blast.
“Which turned into this, which turned...” lol!
Haha, yep :)
This was so great to see the local culture and how friendly the people were.
One of the best times I've had in a long time and I didn't even have to leave my chair! Beautiful celebration and people! Thanks for sharing.
your dogie looks so adorable 🐕🤗
They seem like lovely people, great fun all round🤗
Thanks for yet another great episode😍
The Maori People are some of my favorite people. Even if you have to skip over NZ, I'm glad you got to meet the best part.
Oh well hit NZ for sure!
@@gonewiththewynns you will love it.
Totally awesome navigation techniques. That vessel is something. Wow, life without hi-tech. People forget, or, never knew. Thanks for sharing this in your vlog.
What you experienced in the truck in evening no one other than a westpac sailor would truly understand. I envy you and nikki. Take care!
their culture is so beautiful
I've watched most of your sailing videos and this definitely put a smile on my face. Replayed the truck ride three times. Made my Sunday. Thanks.
It's amazing how y'all can be late ALL the time whilst simultaneously having impeccable timing!
Man, I've been follow you for YEARS and this one! Oh, man this one! BEST ONE EVER. I cryed and laughed at the same time. The pride of a cultur and booz - it cant go wrong.
Living in Hawaii for decades - This video moved me so much. I had to pause it because of emotion. Mahalo!!
THAT WAS JUST TOO GOOD
So much FUN....FANTASTIC
Way to go....thumbs up
Hi guys. Enjoying your work, thanks. How many like me wish they had been there with you on this one… LOL ;)
I've heard it said that youth was wasted on the young. Courageously sharing your adventures and experiences hopefully will inspire others to seek out the endless possibilities to connect with humanity, and put an end to that fallacy. P.S. Your energy and attention to detail is testament to faith and trust, Happy to have found you!!!
Awe, thanks for the love & for coming along on the journey.
What an awesome celebration! You most certainly had the best of timing on this arrival! Looks like another super video! Thanks much guys! Cheers! 👍😎🍻🍻
You know you really, really like it when you try and sing long and you don't know the words or speak the language. Laughter is universal.😁👍
Too truly perfect for so many reasons. Enjoying and opening your heart is a life lived well.
Awesome that you were able to capture this ceremony!
Haha the kiwi custard square better known as snot blocks, lol!
Can only imagine coming back from a night of heavy drinking and taking the "bridge" to the boat....sheesh. LOL
😆😱
Mike Dean 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My thoughts exactly. I was thinking, yes, It will be interesting to see how they managed to cross their improvised bridge after getting wasted.
OUTSTANDING!!!
Loved every part of this---including the music! I agree with others---put a smile on my face! Thank you!
Thank you for joining us!
What an awesome day and what a nice bunch of people
Had me grinning all the way through this video :D
I was literally at half-cry this entire video. ❤️❤️
These sort of unplanned cultural experiences are what world travelling is all about. You never know what lies around the next corner unless you decide to break out and find out. Great stuff!
The ride in the truck are the travel experience that we live for. I love authentic experiences like that. Also, a bit disappointed... NO CATS in this video.
😹😻
WOW!!! A photo~bomb turns into partying with the band in the back of a pick~up truck.
Life is truly good!!!
Right!!! Photo bomb us anytime if you're going to give us good times and good beer 🤣
I love watching your "cityscape" escapes. And I'm always in love with the brightness and softness of your color grading 🎥📽️🎦
Thanks for the love!
This was such a great video...I watched it late cause my grandkids were visiting on the weekend but what a great start to my Monday! Thanks Jason & Nikki
We were just there at the end of August. Be sure to try the brick oven Kai Pizza out of the little trailer/shack across from the night market or Curried Chicken at the Shipwreck. It was awesome. We stayed in Muri and loved it. Quiet, laid back and friendly is the best way to describe the entire island. Be sure to make the trip over to Aitutaki, even if you have to fly over on Raratonga Air. That lagoon is to die for! We wish could have stayed longer than the two weeks we did.
Some other sailing channels went there and let us say they do not have the correct heart nor attitudes for honoring these fabulous people! As I said before I have been there and I was treated so very well, yet others in our small party were sour! These Tongan people can see those with the correct and open heart! I thank you GWTW's for your being so open and doing such an epic job of showing just how wonderful they are! Thank you so much! They invited me to pearl farms, hat making, a wedding and feast as well as aiding me in my challenge! Three challenges, Run the main island road, Kayak the outter reef all the way around and hike through the jungle over and back! I am only 5'5' and I was 37yoa and well these people I seen in the films most were children when I was there 23 years ago! But the same spirit! Thank you again!
😻💟
That Polynesian catamaran is incredible ! It reminds me of the books and journeys of Thor Hierdahl (sp.?) What great history
Actually, Thor Hyerdahl theory was that Polynesians discovered the Pacific Island by accident. The renaissance of the Polynesian Voyaging canoes and celestial navigation proved Thor was incorrect. See the Polynesian Voyaging Society webpage.
Thor Heyerdahl is the correct spelling. The book "Kon Tiki" documents this balsa wood raft's 1947 voyage, with Heyerdahl and a mostly Norwegian crew testing Heyerdahl's theory the eastern Polynesian archipelagoes were originally settled from the Americas, and South America specifically, by a defeated priest-king fleeing Incan conquest. Heyerdahl's theory has some scientific basis in that Polynesian ancestral worship history describe these peoples' point of origin in the east, comparable archeology between Polynesia and Peru near Lake Titicaca, Incan archeology bearing close resemblance, and that the Pacific gyres flow east to west flanking the Equator. "Kon Tiki" set out 28 April 1947 from Callao, Peru, following the Humboldt Current north towards the Galapagos, turning hard west to ultimately land at Rairora 7 August 1947 (in the Tuamotus), later being towed to Tahiti. The 'Kon Tiki' averaged 42.5 nautical miles daily, with only one square sail and the current for propulsion. I have an original edition copy of "Kon Tiki". The Polynesian Voyaging Society records have merit as well; it's possible both have veracity.
@@deraneaton2576 Is it not true that the reeds which grow along the banks of Lake Titicaca (sp?) bear genetic similarities to the ones that grow along the Nile ? Are they identical ? Thank you.
@@whitneylake2107 Ms. Lake, I would not be able to make a determination one way or another without closer examination. Quality, reliable science requires real evidence. It also requires the analysis rationally and consistently account for potentially damaging evidence to any hypothesis or theory. If the evidence contradicts the favored hypothesis or theory, it's the hypothesis or theory that fails -- not the evidence (which is fact).
@@deraneaton2576 You proceed with a great deal of hot air such as assuming I am female. Count your losses
I wish this video would have been another 30 minutes longer! It was so much fun and I hated to see it end. There’s nothing more enjoyable than partying with locals in a small place like that and to really get to know them
I Love the Polynesian culture and it was great to see the singing and dancing in a place that Is not so tourist centric like Hawaii. But, I do hope the Cook islanders can get their place at PCC!
Oh and uh...nice winky face.
😀
I love that places respect and keep the original culture. In our busy lives, we forget to respect and love what where came from. Learn our heritage and culture. Also, I would love to be able to move my hips like that haha
Definitely one of your best videos. Thanks!
What a beautiful tribute to an amazing culture. My grandmother was Aleut and theories abound to the relations/ connection to Native Alaskans to the Polynesians. So fun to learn about. I'm sure you have...but, if you haven't read the book Kon Tiki, check it out! Thank you! Love you guys.
the end put a smile with tears on my face, so lovely missed the island life, people are so friendly and stress free
The Underwater footage is always beautiful along with seeing the local people and their relationship with New Zealand but the main thing is the Simpatico of Nikki Wynn to Breweries & Distilleries-LOL-CB3
Fantastic story telling and cultural experiences. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. Thanks for being envoys of love and appreciation every place you visit.
What a bunch of cool things you happened into! 🎶💃🏻🕺🏻🍻
That was an amazing video guys! The boat runs on diesel or coconut oil. Wow! The singers were fantastic! What a fun ride in the back of a truck with some talented people.
Great job as always Nikki and Jason! Thank You!!!
Gee bring back memories when I was in the cooks love this place and the people
The warriors in the truck, were an epitome of their ancient spirit, the greatest friends you could hope for and the most fearsome foe imaginable.
Those who are latecomers to their lands like to think they have imparted a tiny bit of that spirit to us.
I have first Australian heritage and watching them sing and celebrate really stirred something primordial in me.
The legendary WWII German General Irwin Rommel is reputed to have said something like, "if I wanted to take the most difficult objective imaginable I would send Australians but to hold it, I would use New Zealanders".
I've had a good weekend, this ended it well. "These moments are what exploring the world is all about." I was in the US Navy. I've had a few drunken singing moments.
You bought back so many memories. I am an Aussie living in a land lock U.S. state. Having grown up 10 mins from the beach I love watching your shows. This episode though bought back the memories of the 2 years I lived in New Zealand. living with and working with Moari's, Tongans, Cook Islander's, and Samoan's. Thanks you for a wonderful episode that had me smiling and a tear for long lost friends.
