A follow up video some months after the theater opens would be really interesting.
They closed in March 2022 😢
@@whiterabbit5306 Why? What happened?
That explains why I couldn't access their website
@@davidrubio-lf5rc they didnt make enough money
Seeing Roma in a huge theater with a sold out crowd was one of the best movie going experiences I've had. Theatrical experiences are important, and what all films should strive to be worthy of.
Going to school in a college town right now and the local historical theaters sold out when they replayed fight club, Dr. Strangelove, Alien, Shining … Not an experience you are going to get at chain theaters.
As someone that loves to see art house films but can’t make the trip to Dallas every weekend, I can’t wait for this theatre to open!
1:34 - 2:36 Some say he’s still talking about how strange it is that there aren’t any art-house theatres in Fort worth to this day.
Just in time! I was pondering over a desire to start a sort of a theater house in my very small hometown in my country (Philippines). I reaaaaallyyyy don't know where to start, given that I have no connections or resources whatsoever but just learning how Jimmy started it really inspires me :)
same! hows it going now for you?
Well this is perfect. I'm hoping to open an art house in my hometown.
How’s it going?
This is the kind of content I'd like to see from this channel and you. Thank you for making this video, it was very insightful and has inspired me to look into this further!
I personally would love to see an interview with a movie theatre projectionist, maybe even someone who works at an IMAX Theatre. Would be very interesting.
I loved seeing this and wish you the best success. I opened my first twin art screens in 1975. You are going through the process to the point that I see myself from years ago. I also became a film booker/buyer for a large number of screens as part of my theater business education but operating my art house was the best for all the reasons you mentioned. 😃👍🏻
In the Netherlands we have quite a lot of art house film theaters and I love visiting 'm all. There's something about them. I don't have time to watch the whole video right now but I'll be back.
Love your content!
Where is it? I am visiting netherlands next year in the summer
Yup I’ve been to all of the art houses in Dallas and every Alamo Drafthouse and I have never considered Fort Worth as a place for film. Nor have I even thought about it. I’m amazed.
This video deserves more views and more likes.
Im watching this from Chile, and here we dont have a large number of art houses/independent theaters, and the film "industry" is non existent (the last film that was recognized around the world was A Fantastic Woman by Sebastian Lelio)
I hope that this video would help me to open up an independent theater in my little town
Loving this. Thanks so much for this interview, I’ve been curious about the economics of owning an Arthouse cinema for years.✊🏾
13:02 I like the idea behind this! This makes it less like the opening of an art show, but also distinct from the multitude of multiplexes
I definitely agree on the social aspect. Showcase cinemas is showing one classic James Bond movie per week and I watched From Russia With Love. I have seen it before but watching it with an audience is something that cannot be replicated at home.
This has been one of my top video essay channels for a while and inspired me to do a few of my own (not as creative as yours). I also love this because I've done a doco on an independent cinema as well. I think it's awesome to see you branching out into docos and other stuff, it's all very interesting!
I love this so much, funny enough I was looking up all my local art house theatres and was a bit shocked how few there are in my area. Thank you for making this
wtf, as someone who's moved to San Antonio within the past 6 months, and is pursuing a career in film and video editing, this is, like, UNIQUELY relevant to my interests. thank you!!
Great video idea! I've considered starting an art-house theater at some point, but wonder if it's feasible... thanks for what you do, brother! I grew up going to the Minor Theater in Arcata, CA, the longest-running first-run theater in the country - a great art-house.
This feels like a really good panel at a convention, great discussion
Would love to see a follow-up video!
Great video. So engaging that those 42 minutes flew by. Jimmy seems a good dude, I hope his theater goes well. Makes me want to finally pop down to my local for the first time too.
Sweet! I'm from Fort Worth and I really don't like driving out to Dallas every time I want to see an indie, art-house, or foreign film.
As someone who has worked in the drive-in industry for a while now, I can say that distribution is the hardest aspect. There are some companies that are just straight up assholes. Art house is probably the way to go, seeing how smaller companies want their movies seen. So, they are more likely to work with you on terms.
I remember having to travel to Dallas just to see indie films. Glad I'm lucky to be in Chicago now so I don't miss them, but it's about time for Fort Worth to get something like this
Strangely underrated video
It'll be interesting to come back to this one later
We need more of these!
So you're saying they don't just pop into existence?
Justin Y. Oh hi again...
How do you do this
Justin. I am your biggest fan. I watch all of your content on a daily basis. I love you😉😉😉
Why are you literally in every video I watch?
Taedrem Chill...
Sadly this movie just closed, rip all the closed art house theaters that have fallen.
Really interesting video. Good luck with your new venture Jimmy I really hope you succeed
This was so bloody good. Can we please get an update interview?
24:27 that's interesting to hear. in my country we can also buy beer in the cinemas. weird how other countries handle things like that.
Just checked their website. Sadly it look like they're not showing movies anymore :(
I'm not sure if I would consider Alamo Drafthouse and art House it's definitely a revival house but any art film that ends up there my only have a couple screenings, at least at least that's been my experience at the one in the cedars. The Angelica at Mockingbird and the uptown magnolia do a good job showing stuff though. I don't really go to any other DFW to theaters so idk about the rest but in general Dallas has a tendency to crush any type of entertainment that doesn't involve drinking, eating or a mega church, so hopefully we'll keep what we have.
For some reason, I thought it was funny when “I had the chance to sit down with him” was accompanied by a shot of both of you standing up.
This is going to be good.
support independent film
Dallas represent!!!
Really informative. Great video!
Good shit dude! Rad interview
Great interview
With Squarespace!
Oh shit I just moved to Sarasota Florida I need to check out burns court
I hope he and his employees are prepared for hearing "SO DO Y'ALL HAVE [insert modern blockbuster here] OR ANY LIKE RECENT MOVIES"
I'd love a follow-up in like 6 months
the last part is making me question if the guy is a time traveler lol
Yeah yeah for sure
This is such a cool idea! How have you guys been faring during COVID?
the foreshadowing in this episode is physically painful
Yeah I looked it up and they were closed. If you live in Fort Worth, was it just not bringing in audiences or was it something else that led to its death?
@@Walterwhite-fd4vy coronavirus
oh
supposedly they're turning the old Fine Arts in Denton into an art theater too!
I also think Netflix needs to release it's originals on Blu-ray and DVD. Give it a year, sure, but the movie collector market is not going to harshly impact the Netflix subscriber market. Right now we're all just pissed we can't collect our favourite new movies on disc.
Oh wow, I'm from Sarasota. It's surprising to hear the name
You should start a podcast!
There isn't a single art house theater in Jamaica
God damn this video is brilliant.
👏👏👏
Really a shame it's closed now
how tho
I go back and forth. It comes off as really pretentious...but then again it's important to see all films as equal in potential to hit the emotional weight of great filmic exercises.
some of those ones in dallas aren't that good
HEY I LIVE HERE!!!!!
Lol the mainstream of the mainstream? How would you counter something like cidercade? All those old video games and it's definitely full of the mainstream people and it sucks... so these things can turn into whatever you market it as and all of a sudden it will just be old movie the old people with money like to see... Is that to dark or too extreme for a thing that hasn't opened probably... definitely, Fort Worth is definitely not Dallas too.
Egg
Another banger video by my white n-word.
Oh man, is this place even in business anymore?
Sadly the clown who owned the theater has closed it down for good, its a shame that such a neat place with lots of potential was wasted by someone who wasn't capable of running and gave up on the place with no fight.
Dang dude, covid probably had something to do with it. Where's your humanity?
I was interested in watching this. But the guy say umm way too much. Its unwatchable. Learn to speak properly before agreeing to do an interview.
Art house is the worst thing ever!
Why are you here?
1. Give up on any serious aspirations in filmmaking and busy yourself with the theatre business to smother all sense of shame and failure
2. ???
3. Profit
