this is so neat. I love that there are both older film lovers and a new generation appreciating old media. it’s cool because it feels like there’s a growing crowd of gen z’s that are itching to slow down and get away from instantaneous consumerism. beautiful stuff as always
Let’s also give credit to the Boomers who started it, and the Gen Xrs (like me) and Millenials who kept it going.
You don’t understand they are feeding into the consumerism LOL
couldn't have said it better myself!
not to mention film forum is a union movie theater too! support union theaters!!
You can tell they all seem to be pretty happy. I wish all businesses were run like this
Film Forum can feel like your own private movie theater. Before Netflix, smartphones, and streaming, it felt like one of the only places to see true art house and foreign films, and really gave me the sense of “Cinema.” I’m get re-energized to ditch all this smartphone nonsense and get back to enjoying real film and real cinema at Film Forum. Thank you!
Cinema is alive!! Thxs Film Forum 🎥🍿
I was first brought to Film Forum in the 7th Grade to see the documentary “Comic Book Confidential”. Ever since, Film Forum is a total jewel to me. I’ve brought dates there, parents, siblings, friends, and now my spouse and me go there for special night out. To me, Film Forum IS NYC. Thank you, Film Forum!
another awesome public opinion. never yet been inside the film forum. passed it a million times. can't wait to go. thanks kieran and jack.
You gotta go!
I love that y’all did this and showcased the wonderful people behind the scenes and screens at Film Forum. I wish I was in NYC to see the Louise Brooks movie! Thank you for putting a spotlight on a beloved repertoire theater! S/o to my hometown art house theater The Nickelodeon in Columbia, SC ❤
Love love love this! Karen & Bruce are LEGENDS, and Film Forum is EXTRAORDINARY! Crazy how everyone who works there is like the best at their job, and that’s how it continues to thrive! To a million more years, FF! 🥂(missed opportunity to show unsalted popcorn during the “stuck in time” line :P)
So epic to see what goes on behind the scenes at one of my favorite cinemas! Plus 35MM print of The Third Man!? Doesn't get any better than this!
No it doesn’t!
I’ve forgot about this gem.. Glad it’s still going and people get a real cinema experience.👏
❤ I somehow never thought about the wrangling of those great posters, very cool to see behind the scenes!
wow, such a great place! independent cinemas are so refreshing in our tiktok/youtube/netflix era.
Love this. I’m from Oxford, England but hope to one day go there xx. Loved this video.
Fantastic! Thank you for shining a spotlight on this institution.
It’s fascinating to see how these boutique indie theaters have come to thrive more than the average multiplex in today’s landscape, but it makes total sense. They have less staff, less overhead, way more control over their programming and bring out a more devoted following. I live in Atlanta and we have the historic Plaza Theatre which operates a lot like this one
This is great. I watch your videos sometimes but felt compelled to comment and let you guys know how much I appreciate this passionate look at such a historic place. Movie theaters are magic, and I'm ashamed that I usually go to AMCs in the city when we have so many special places like this. This video makes me so excited to get back to film forum.
Thank you
How did I not know about this place?? I’m absolutely going. Thanks so much for featuring it
Dear god, this place looks awesome. On my list for the next time I get to NYC. I wish covid didn't kill the revival theaters in Bangkok. 😥
Another classic, Jack 🔥🔥🔥
Theres gotta be more of these!! Even LA, which is the home of Hollywood itself, doesn't have enough revival theaters. More of what we love needs to stay
great video! love this style of content. would love to visit this theater!
Very interesting! Thank you for bringing attention to another hidden NYC gem! Will definitely check it out.
Will visit this place for sure!
my kind of movie theater
This channel is so good
Thank you!
Thank you for all the great videos please don’t stop making them 💕💕 they are very well made
Yalls video editing is so engaging Holy shit
Never been to the Film Forum although I’ve spent many nights and early mornings at SOB’s next door.
banger alert
i love film forum. but i also want to give shoutouts to some other great NYC rep theaters: Metrograph, IFC, Quad
I saw The Tingler there in the 90s! Vincent Price, 'interactive' film with seats that shock you, etc.
Great memory.
yes, Yes, YES. More please!
I miss working in a projection booth. I loved that job.
I love it and miss it. Went to school in NYC long ago and had so many good nights there.
I love Film Forum. I do. However, it’s small. I’m happy the seats are more comfortable, but those screens are so small for a movie theater. I get that it’s old school, but people go there for the programming first and foremost
Beautiful.
Maybe the best yet
really well done video
there's still small theaters out there like this, but none of them are able to run daily or non-profit, so we should cherish them while they're still around and they might last longer
“A movie theater has to build community” that part!
Long live film forum, and all the small indie spots across the country, some of my favorite places to disappear and find new friends and favorites
Amazing spot I go all the time
"This is like my church"
that sentence just hits different
god bless Film Forum! The best
Go see le samourai!!!
This is always a "holy site" for me on my 'filmgrages' from MTL.
Like the dude that said "this is my church". 👉that's MY line👈 😅.
I am all about CELLULOID, 'tradition' and class.
Film Forum has a great and respectful balance of elements that makes it what it is.
A cozy "local cafe/bookstore" kinda vibe. Unique anywhere.

I loved Linda's personality, so I googled her. She has some awesome videos on water sustainability and a few movie credits, herself. I love these local places with cool people. Great reporting.
I went to Film Forum 10 years ago to see a documentary about Alejandro Jodorowsky and his ill-fated adaptation of Dune that never was. I remember there being only three theaters but I didn't know they added a fourth. Seeing these people be excited for film makes me at least happy. I'm pretty jaded when it comes to cinema nowadays and I live in Queens.
Also, the films I want to see are not playing in NYC. Always the same tired classics and the same middlebrow indie drivel.
This is what the original Alamo Draft house was in austin when it first opened in the late 90s!
love film forum
I think this is my favorite Public Opinion video yet.......gonna go on a date night to film forum pronto :)
Incredible date night spot
Great vid
THERE ARE OTHER PLACES LIKE THIS! The Show Room in Asbury Park, NJ!!!!
Nice work. (I used to host the new filmmakers NY series at anthology film archives.)
Awesome
If a theater runs Robot Dreams then you know they're good.
YES
My dad used to work here for like 20 years
Good video
This is so New York I can smell it
Two guys on a ladder?
That's prob fine 🤷🏼♂️
this was fucking awesome
Movies are siiiiiiiiick
Susanna is babe-o-riffic.
Hopefully this survives….
... and I'm stuck here in capitalist hell garbage-fire Arizona...
