first off, I'm loving the build! i want to share a little experience with you about 4 liter exhaust.. i built an exhaust system for my old tacoma, it was headers, high flow cats and at first i used a small performance muffler. it sounded like hell, to put it nicely. it was so loud and raspy i couldn't stand to drive it. i ended up buying the largest oval muffler magnaflow makes and that did the trick to quiet it down to a reasonable level. that muffler was a 5x11" oval and 22" long case.. hope this helps!
@@offroadhub.official it really was terrible. Lol it’s amazing the awful sound that comes out these engines and how much those 4 factory cats quiet them down! Looking forward to more videos soon!
All wrapped up Ken’s pipes go custom. Once again the talented crew at Ken’s Customs make the exhaust challenge look easy and leave behind more sculpture material. Stay tuned as the build progresses to completion and the new Fj tackles the driveway.
If your cel light comes on for the rear o2 sensors and or need no light on to pass emissions you can fab up a tube ,possibly may need a 90 to get that rear sensor out of the exhaust stream. You also can put a resister in the wire that goes back to the computer. Some times a sparkplug anti fowler will work to if the threads are the same.
Hey man great videos! I don't even really care for jeeps, or fj's for that matter but came across your vids and I really enjoy your diy vids, how you do ALOT of your own work! Great work keep it up👍🏽👍🏽 "X3-GANG"
I ran Thrush mufflers on my 91 Chevy lumina with 3.4/3.6 v6 back in the day !! They were pretty loud. Don’t remember engine size, was along time ago….. lol Ready to see the beast in action already!!! My 2010 FJ envies yours. Lol I’m running a super10 flowmaster on my FJ but still has cats, curious to hear what yours sounds like.
Hey ken, i would buy some silicon header wrap sealer to protect your exhaust from rotting out. And use a can of high temp primer and high temp paint on exposed sections of exhaust where welds are to keep the from rusting up to much. Build is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see it rolling.
I made the mistake down here in dfw and a low grade stainless and it rotted through in 9 months. Lol i learned to spray with silicon to protect it. The guy now has a very expensive high grade stainless exhaust. Love the build man. I believe quality wise, it should be pretty close to eric's fj.
So just got the full setup finished. The exact same as yours i have a mbrp cat back that the front part feeds into. Its a little loud probably going to get a resonator. Its a little louder and raspier than i want at high rpms
It is pretty loud at higher rpms. I'm going to relocate the gas tank to inside the vehicle soon, at that point I'll eliminate the crossover and just do a true dual exhaust.
@@offroadhub.official i think i might in the future actually put on the second set of cats just to get some more quietness and also if someone looks they are there. I for sure need another muffler or resonator
What's a little rumble without some grumble. Appears as though you have this pain in the ass task whipped into shape. Good job Ken, I always dred exhaust work.
That little Thrush muffler is gonna be loud. A bigger muffler would be a little quieter. Might wanna think about some resonators to place inline. Glad your build is coming along. Too bad no other FJ will be able to follow you on trails. lol
☕✌ ...Exhaust is looking great. Lots of finaglin as my dad used to say . You'll like the new growl out the exhaust . Those are nice mufflers . Have a set on my 64 Impala . Nothing too loud or crazy . They sound great especially at idle , help it breathe and fart too.
@@offroadhub.official no doubt, those headers are nice ! Not much room to work with either . Hats off to ya on all these different obstacles during the build . Almost there 🤙
Ya gotta do a live UA-cam when ya first pull it out of the shop . I say ya got 1 inch before ya rip your garage door clear off the tracks lol On fully inflated tires .
kinda late to the party for this recommendation. equal lenth y pipe makes the 1gr-fe actually sound pretty good. buddy did headers and equal length y pipe with the dirty deeds muffler and its the best sounding tacoma ive heard. sounds like he did a whole motor swap. a little loud on the top end but cruising is fine. dirty deeds knows his stuff. his mufflers aren’t cheap though
Is there a follow up video yet? I've been thinking about doing something very close to the same and I'm really interested to how this turns out. Thanks
@@offroadhub.official Ah okay. You are going to reprogram ecu for air fuel mix ratio because cats got deleted, or not needed? I have been following your build and very nice contents. Pardon my English grammar as it is my 3rd language.
@@1Nine7Zero I wish I could speak 3 languages! Only the upstream sensors have anything to do with air and fuel. The downstream only measure the effectiveness of the catalytic converters. So not having cats will not affect the engine.

Fortunately this thing never sees salt, and it's dry most of the time. By the time it rusts out I'll be ready to change it up anyway! 😆

Does the engine light come on ? And if it does how can i get rid of it ?
Im installing dougthorley headers and deleted y pipe
If you don't have cats the light will come on. There are ways to fool the O2 sensors. Lots of info on that on the Google.

Looks great Ken. Ken from Oregon.
Thanks Ken! Send me some more photos of your exploits in Utah!
It’s looking good
Did you get a CEL without the cats? Most engine computers need to see the cat between the O2 sensors or it trips the light.
@helieasy I should have cat codes, but very strangely I do not!
Is there a follow up video yet?
I've been thinking about doing something very close to the same and I'm really interested to how this turns out.

In the next video I showed the completed system.
FYI I have installed doug thorley headers for FJ 2007-2009 on My FJ 2014
I looked at 07-09 headers and they had a completely different bolt pattern than my 2010.
Installing any headers on the FJC is a pain. I do it every couple of years due to smog.
Why bother with O2 sensor 2 when there is not catalytic converter?
Just so there is something plugged in basically.

How did you solve the CEL being on without cats? Or do you just live with it on?…
I live with it on. BUT... I actually don't have any cat codes! 😂 I have a speed sensor code.
How does this not have a check engine light? How are the parameters met for the O2 sensors?
Check engine light is on. The O2 sensors are still in place in the exhaust.
