  • Hello Viewers,
Presenting the 6th episode of the epic North Sikkim roadtrip with our Mahindra XUV700. This episode takes us to the mighty Gurudongmar lake in North Sikkim at an altitude of 17800 ft from mean sea level. We had an early morning start for this epic roadtrip on this day and aim was to clear all checkposts with ease. Aparently this turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we could clear all the checkposts before the tourist rush begins. The first checkpost is of Sikkim police at the Thangu village and the next one being 15kms before Gurudongmar lake by the Indian Army. The roads from Lachen to Thangu valley was very good barring few patches where the road repairing works are in progress. After Thangu valley there is no roads and aparently you have to manage a complete offroading patch for about 12kms. Remember that this stretch will have huge rocks kept at the side of the roads and hence you need to negotiate very carefully. Thankfully XUV700 had the required ground clearance to overcome these with ease. Once you cross the last checkpost guarded by the Army, you can find the black top road again and that will lead you straight up to Gurudongmar Lake. However the adventure does not end there. The last 500 meters up to the lake has no roads and you have to literally climb a steep gradient full of rocks and boulders and complete offroading to reach the lake. However all the struggle will pay off at the first sight of the holy lake. The views here are just breathtaking. The lake has a history behind it which I have tried to cover in my video. So please do watch the complete video till the end to know more about it.
Lastly, you will face breathing trouble so I would recommend you to carry portable oxygen cans with you which will be really handy. AMS will definitely kick in and at that time you will need oxygen for help. But not to worry, there is a stable Army camp on top and all you need to do is to report to the Army that you are not feeling well. Many have questions about whether it is safe for kids, well I travelled with a 6yr old and a 10yr old kid, none had any issues. We have to remember that kids are more adaptable to the surroundings than adults and hence no issues at all. Yes there will be a bit of headache but that's just the AMS setting in. No need to worry about it.
If you like the video, please do give a thumbs up and also support the channel by subscribing to it. Also, for any suggestions/questions, please do comment your thoughts in the comment box and I will try my best to answer those.
    Happy Motoring!
