    This is a video to help pilots who are looking at getting a single skin wing. What do they act like? Are they worth the money? Are they a poor wing for beginners? Are they even practical for hike and fly missions?
    there are lots of questions about the single skin paragliders / mini wings... I have created this video to assist with these.
    I couldn't find the answers on here, so i bought a Niviuk Skin 3 and found the answers myself.
    If you have any questions about a single skin, then please ask!

    Regarding the flare with single skins, you'll have a much improved landing by going fully hands up on the final and then a late deep flare just before touch down. You need all the energy the wing can give and then a very deep fast brake input to flare. It's a different technique from a regular wing for sure but even in nil wind you'll be able to achieve a very soft landing once your timing is right...
    Also in flight coming from a regular wing it will take some getting used to. Single skins will be moving around a fair bit over head but it's so little energy in the wing that it doesn't escalate into anything. I'm not saying leave it unchecked no matter what, but it'll fly better if you don't rest as much weight on the brakes. I know it's hard coming from a regular wing when you're used to feel that pressure in the brake lines. On a single skin it's more subtle, resting just the index finger on the brake line will help you pick up the information better, instead of grabbing the toggles with the whole hand.
    I fully realize in this video you haven't had much time on the wing yet so these are just some things to consider. I've flown single skins for a few years now and their amazing wings for what they're designed for. It's the right tool for certain days...

    Interesting how the cells have come and gone on the Niviuks Skins, they do make them faster but heavier. You are spot on Dan Mate about there being a place for them. Look forwards to you doing some epic hike and flys. Great comments!

    how does a single skin behave in a stall / spin / asymmetric collapse? It seems like without the cell structure it could be hard to re-inflate and hold shape.

    Great video as always.
    I was quite excited to watch it honestly.
    I just got an Air Design UFO 2 13m single skin. Haven't had a chance to fly it yet. Really curious how a mini-wing that's a single skin flies. I love my Bantam 10 but it can be tricky to launch in zero wind or light tailwind.
    I think the single skin will be easier to launch, but probably not fun in stonger winds.

    • @DansEscapades
      @DansEscapades  3 роки тому +1

      I think you just nailed it mate, single skins are scarily fast at inflating and coming overhead! As for the UFO, let me know how it is... They look so cool (I can't afford one).
      I appreciate the comment about the video, it means alot man so thank you! It takes alot of time to get all the footage and create the videos, so this makes it worth it 🥃

    "the glide is better than I expected". What does that even mean? 3, 5, 7:1? Most people have never flown that one hill you fly.

    • @DansEscapades
      @DansEscapades  3 роки тому

      I was so ply staying it's better than what I expected for a single skin.
      I'd say it was 5:1,i was told by many people that single skins are like parachutes and they are very bad at covering ground.
      I hope that helps.

    • @DansEscapades
      @DansEscapades  3 роки тому

      I didn't really thermal with it my friend. Its deffo possible.... It won't be as efficient as a standard double skinned wing.. But its possibly for sure.
      I could maintain height therefor I can increase altitude.
      Hope this helps 👍🏼

    • @DansEscapades
      @DansEscapades  3 роки тому

      The wing would sit slightly forward as expected, even a few millimeters of brake would cause the wing to pitch back a little too much for my liking. Flying it with trims open about a cm is perfect

    Hi Dan, I am looking for a mountain wing and have the chance to buy a used as new skin 3 16m2 quite cheap. the 16 has no ltf, only load testing, max. startweight for this glider is 85kg and i am about 88 all up. Any ideas how this glider would perform? Unfortunately it is 7 hours away by car here in austria so a testflight is tricky. I am not after speed. I have been flying for about 5 years and normally fly a Mentor 3 and Ion 5 from Nova. Thanks for your feedback M8.

    • @DansEscapades
      @DansEscapades  2 роки тому +1

      I personally wouldn’t go for that. The load testing certification isn’t an issue….. but the weight is I’d say. You don’t want to be too end of a single skin… bit of a sketchy place to be. I’m about 50% of mine and wish I was a little more. Deffo no more than 75-80% of the weight though mate

    • @DansEscapades
