    ABOUT US:
    As the Retirement Travelers, we have always dreamed of traveling, but we never in a million years thought we would become travel vloggers and start a UA-cam channel. But, that is what we did! We work hard every day to become better and create something that others will enjoy. Having a community of friends, old and new, follow our journey is fun and exciting to us.
    In 2019, we achieved our goal of visiting every state in the union in our Airstream. We also visited every national park in the lower 48. We are big believers in lists, so of course we plan to see the remaining 12 parks in the next few years.
    In 2021, we made the big decision to extreme downsize to just a large and small backpack, each. We started our journey around the world beginning in Central America. We hope that over the next many years, we will have seen many beautiful things, made many memories and new friends, and shared the experience with our children and grandchildren.
    We hope you enjoy the journey with us. Drop us a note in the comments and be sure to hit subscribe! 🗺 🎥 🌮

    There have been a lot of questions about the power strip's rating. The company's website states it is rated to 250v. Just wanted to add that information. Thanks for using our link! John & Bev

      I have been researching the power strip you reference and am confused. Having smoked a 120vac power bar in Germany a few years ago I am being extra cautious. The built-in surge protection did not like 220vac. You mention the companies website states 250v but the amazon link on your website shows 125v. What is the power rating on the actual power strip you travel with and what is the model#? Thank you.

    • @RetirementTravelers
      @RetirementTravelers  9 місяців тому +1

      @@michaelosborne1750 You are correct that the specs on the website and Amazon are different. We have used it several months with no issues at all in many different countries. You should contact the company directly if you still have concerns.

      @@RetirementTravelers Thank you for the info and I have contacted the company. They say it should work and the '~' in the "125V~" rating means includes 240v. What does the Rating say on your strip?

      I am one more that is asking the same question. When we were still home in Canada I ordered this power bar and have used it in Italy. We are in a different country now and my husband is very concerned bc it says 125v on the actual item. He's got me worried so I thought I'd ask you (you're incredibly responsive). Glad I revisited this video bc now I have seen other people adding this. Thanks for fielding questions and giving so much time to your 'peeps'! 😃 I'm going to show him your answers. It's a scary thought... What if??? It would not be good

    Dry bags are also great to do your laundry in; I also bring Eucalan laundry soap (because I have a lot of merino wool items) which requires no rinsing. Stuff the dirty laundry in the bag, fill with water in the shower or bath, put in some Eucalan and seal. Roll it around on the shower floor a bit, then leave to soak 15 minutes. Open the bag and carefully press most of the water out with your foot, then squeeze the remaining water out of each item, spread them out on a bath towel and roll them up for 10 minutes. Unroll and hang items to dry

    We have a “safe word” that helps us manage the things that go wrong. We’ve picked a location we both loved and use it as our secret way of saying, “this sucks, you’re acting like a jerk, or I might hurt somebody. But I love you, and the world is a good place, and we are so lucky to be in it.”

    Thank you so much for showing your tech upgrades. I quickly ordered the extension cord and Anker bricks for both of us (we do not always travel together). The one item I will agree to disagree is digital boarding passes. My phone really misbehaved in an airport once and I was unable to access my boarding pass. Now I just print one from the kiosk and my stress level stays normal. 🙂

    OMG you have improved your packing so much- I have only commented on one other video, your first packing one- it was pretty bad. I have been to over 120 countries in the last 37 years, and have refined my packing constantly. I will upgrade my noise cancelling headphones, and add air tags. I love your advice on jacket layering- I use the exact same method, with embarrassingly expensive jackets! I travel with everything lightweight, currently using a 25L pack that weighs less than 1 pound, fully loaded I carry 12 pounds, plus whatever I am wearing. Light and fast is the only way to go....you guys are awesome

    When you board a plane, do you separate the backpack into 2 pieces for a carry-on and personal item? Also, how much do you bags way full? Finally, I was surprised you had two MacBooks. Guess, you might use them at the same time, but, thought it might be better/lighter to share one. Happy Trails!!!

      @RetirementTravelers  10 місяців тому +3

      Yes, we separate the backpacks for a personal item. Oftentimes we carry the daypacks in our hands. They can also attach to the front of our packs. There are clips on our shoulder straps so they can hang in front. We carry about 55 lbs total between the two of us. The heaviest single items are Bev's MacBook and our tripod. We both need a laptop since we do a lot of writing, planning, and editing. We wish we could make do with one, but it's not possible since we have a full blog and channel. Thanks for the questions! I'm also a huge fan of the travel power strip! (Though I use a slightly different kind). One benefit that you didn't mention is that outlets are not always logically placed, and the extension cord capabilities of our power strips is worth its weight in gold.
    Also, I'm super inspired to get an Anker charger now! I never understood why they were useful until you explained. Thanks!

    • @RetirementTravelers

      Thanks for comment. We certainly agree on the extension cord capabilities. You will love the Anker charger. We carry everything in our backpacks and always are aware of any extra weight.

      @@RetirementTravelers Thanks guys! Actually I'm curious: since the extension cord has USB (A & C) ports, it is not redundant to have the Anker charger too?

    • @RetirementTravelers
      @RetirementTravelers  10 місяців тому +4

      @@NoraDunn The Anker chargers work great for us because they provide an additional 3 "C" plugs and 1 "USB" on each charger. They also charge faster and provide temperature protection to the devices. We each have computers, phones, airbuds and cameras, so lots of things to charge.

    Thanks so much for getting down to the details. That’s so helpful! I wonder if it would be possible to do a video on how you save space on just your toiletries, since not being able to “go back home” to refill small containers from large ones isn’t an option. I realize that we all have different preferences/needs in that area, but different creams, liquids, etc. can be substituted for different people’s needs, while still implementing your space & weight-saving ideas. You did mention once that you use toothpaste tablets or have shared the same tube of toothpaste as you travel. That’s the type of tip I’m talking about. I’m not asking that you share anything too personal, but maybe generalize about some contents while being specific about containers. Of course, nowadays, we’re all limited by sizes of containers and liquids, but y’all have your own added limitations of what you want to haul around. 😊 I love how you “get to the point” in your videos and do such an excellent job of giving us helpful information. I also appreciate the fact that you included the change to the Osprey Fairview 55 for Bev and why you did that. We’re in the process of deciding and ordering our Osprey backpacks for our travel needs. Blessings on you both as you travel the world! We’ll be enjoying your adventures as you go. Remember, no detail is irrelevant; it will always help someone in some way. 🤗

    You guys are 110 percent correct! My wife and I have traveled everywhere with just a roller and a backpack. This includes Antarctica and Egypt. If we know we will be buying souvenirs for family, we pack a duffle that folds up nice and flat into one bag and one the way home we put the dirty laundry in it and protect the souvenirs in one roller bag. We use this method for 7-12 days of travel; we can always find a way to wash clothes on the trip if needed.
