  • Oswalds Mill Audio. A strange name for an unlikely story.
OMA gets its name from a more than 200 year old mill in Eastern Pennsylvania, restored by OMA founder Jonathan Weiss. In that mill Jonathan assembled an impressive collection of vintage cinema and studio audio equipment, especially horn loaded loudspeakers, dating back to the 1930's. Within the walls of this massive mill, Jonathan’s audio obsessions attracted like minded people who congregated there every year for an event which became world famous. This underground community of speaker and horn designers and builders, tube audio and vinyl and tonearm experts became the foundation for launching a whole new approach to high end audio: OMA, Oswalds Mill Audio.

Thank you for your life lesson. Nowadays it is difficult to find someone who speaks from experience with the calm and serenity necessary in this dizzying world.

Your are to be commended for raising this priceless ethos and living in accordance with it. A great service to those who appreciate, and or may appreciate more musical art.

He is the pinnacle of audio design and production even. Unbelievable!
This story explains so much of his thought process and devotions.
Its really kind of him to share that information. Most every other company does not do that.
Oma is special because no expense was spared in all realms.
The underlying thought process and reasoning is always the most valuable quality to a product, its not a physical thing but its what manifests into a physical design.
Hes really selling more than just a reall good amplifier and really good set of speakers. Its all working together in the way it was supposed to, the way he dreamt it.

One of my favorite videos thus far. I can definitely see why Ralph Lauren would choose it for a shoot (the RRL/Double RL line if I had to take a guess). Seeing the OMA wood horns mounted atop those large theater speakers is both a bit of a juxtposition visually but at the same time such an ideal pairing based what OMA is founded on.
    Thanks for sharing.

These documentaries on the mill and how your life and spirituality has grown is fascinating and deeply peaceful Jonathan.
I grew up in a 13th century Devon longhouse in England, lived in Canada and now have found home here in Austria. I live in the Vienna woods surrounded by Nature with the Danube a ten minute walk from my tiny home.
I have since childhood looked at life a bit differently, peace, spirit (but not religious) have been so important, I don´t mean to sound flippant but money has never been the motivator in my life other than keeping food on the table and a secure roof over my head and a few objects that support my spirit and soul.
I have always felt that compassion is a far greater energy than combativeness and that home is more than a building to live in other than if you find home in your heart then the physical home you create (as in the mill) will wrap its fabric around you, keep you safe and loved.
It is obvious that the love you and Cynthia have for each other has created a home that is loved, allows creativeness to flourish and provides inspiration that grows and allows spirit and thought to run free to create even deeper connections and inspiration.
What a joy these videos are and thank you for sharing your home and yourselves in such an intimate way, it truly is a treasure.

Bravo, Jonathan 👏🏼 Thank you for sharing. I had been wondering about the mill ever since I stumbled onto your videos a few years ago. I’m a security professional living and currently working in the San Francisco Bay Area for 31 years . And though I’m younger than you (51) I could talk shop and listen to you for hours. We have some things in common. Back in August and September, I briefly worked in Marin County doing security at a location that makes high end furniture and home furnishings. During the time I spent there, your company always came to mind in regards to craftsmanship. One night while I was duty the CEO and one his executives were having a conversation in the lobby I was guarding. I tried to tune them out. Unfortunately, their conversation was way too interesting to ignore. In a nutshell it was all about surviving bankruptcy, borrowing money, stocks, investments, partners, etc. Huge numbers! I won’t mention any names here, but I wish you could talk to the main man. I believe you have much in common. Anyway, I will continue to watch and learn from your videos.

Reminds me a lot of an old timber building that used to be a short stroll from our house when we were kids. Massive open-framed building with timber beams, high ceilings, a warm and cozy feel to it despite it being kind of dilapidated.

I get it. I went on a bike ride one day and we wound up buying a stone farmhouse built in 1757. We've lived here almost 21 years and it's still very much a work in progress.

I mean I get it. You just know when you find home and you see what it will be one day. I really relate to a lot of your artistic expression through science and engineering, and making something great while doing it. I also could argue things like we make, I make other things.. are a great value. They might be expensive but they last forever and have a soul, where other things get the job done... if that. Then you replace them forever... So its nice to see it come together for someone with similar values so well.
